Maps of Winnipeg’s proposed new transit routes
Compiled by Devin Botar 3 minute read Wednesday, Jun. 12, 2024Related
The City of Winnipeg plans to change almost every transit route in the city in June 2025, during a major overhaul of the transit service.
All told, there will be 142 changes to bus routes in the city during a switch to a "spine-feeder model."
Instead of every bus in the city ending up downtown, there will be a network of major routes and less frequently served feeder routes that bring passengers to the main bus routes.
A city report included maps of each of the new proposed bus routes. View them below.

Photography and story by Mikaela MacKenzie 4 minute read Friday, May. 10, 2024NEAR ANOLA — Calving season is a harbinger of spring at the Edie Creek Angus ranch, where 220 cows and heifers mosey about in a pasture dedicated to the mothers-to-be. New calves scamper across the field, hind legs kicking playfully and tails swinging. In the distance, stands of budding aspen glow almost neon green in the early morning sun. Third-generation ranchers Jonathan and Stefan Bouw head the operation, raising grass-fed cattle built to thrive on the Manitoba prairie. 4 minute read Tuesday, Jul. 11, 2023The 2023 edition of the Winnipeg Folk Festival kicked off with a torrential downpour during Thursday’s opening-night concert, but that didn’t deter fans from flocking to Birds Hill Provincial Park for the rest of the weekend. Official attendance was not available at press time but record crowds attended on Sunday, when day passes completely sold out.
Manitoba singer-songwriter William Prince had his mainstage debut cut short owing to the weather Thursday, but a last-minute cancellation saw Winnipeg act Boy Golden claim a moment in the spotlight in front of thousands of new fans Saturday evening.
Over four days, folkies old and young — body glitter has replaced patchouli and sequins have replaced tie-dye — grooved to bands from Ukraine, South Korea, Iceland, Mexico, Ireland, Louisiana and our own backyard in a celebration of world music.
Whether dancing under the stars at the Big Bluestem @ Night stage or mellowing out in the golden hour at mainstage, the vibe was Summer of Love positive, with no shortage of hugs and interpretive dancing.

Photojournalist Mikaela MacKenzie 4 minute read Saturday, Apr. 22, 2023This weekend marks a year since Hudson’s Bay Company, which began in the fur-trading business, acknowledged its role in Canada’s colonial history and gifted ownership of its massive, near-century-old downtown store to an Indigenous group in an act of reconciliation.
The Southern Chiefs’ Organization, which represents 34 First Nations communities in Manitoba, has a $130 million plan to transform the building at Portage Avenue and Memorial Boulevard into a multi-use facility with hundreds of affordable-housing units, a child-care centre, a museum, art gallery and restaurants.
Project organizers hope to begin demolition in early summer inside the once-thriving retail icon, which has been closed since 2020. On Friday, Free Press photojournalist Mikaela MacKenzie spent a final Bay Day tracing the footsteps of generations of shoppers, diners and employees in the now-eerie six-storey building.
