The Hotel Sant Gervasi, is located 5 metro stops away from down town, in the most select part of Barcelona, where Modernist houses and new buildings enjoy a happy coexistence. This neighborhood is one of the safest & quietest in town. Close by to the Hotel, and very well communicated, you have also the following sightseeing’s: Park Güell, the fantastic park designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí and the Tibidabo mountain. The hotel’s size – it has only 63 rooms – is part of its special charm, and its guests will enjoy the warm hospitality only found in such intimate establishments. The Sant Gervasi is also convenient for all transport, the historic city centre and the trade fair site at Montjuïc.

I have never written a review before but I felt I had to in this particular case. We chose this hotel based on the good reviews we had seen. We wasn't bothered about it being a 3 star at all, as long as it was clean with a comfortable bed where we could rest well after a full day of sight seeing, it would serve it's purpose. The hotel is in a quiet, safe location, away from the main tourist area and Putxet train station was a minute's walk away. We were in the heart of everything within 10 minutes which was fantastic. Unfortunately, that's as good as it gets, it all goes downhill from here on. As non smokers, we requested a non smoking room when we booked. We didn't even need to see the ash tray in our room to guess we were given a smokers room, we could smell the stale cigarette stench the moment we stepped through the door. We went back to reception explaining that we had booked a non smoking room only to be told that they had non available. Disappointed, we went back to our stale dirty smelling room, knowing this is what we would have to come back to every evening. As if this wasn't bad enough, we had to endure a rock hard bed in which you could feel every spring. We have slept on forest floors camping and that was more comfortable than the rack of springs we were subjected to at this hotel. We woke up feeling bruised around the ribs and hips and tired from restlessly tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. To add to terrible sleep quality, the walls were so thin, we could hear people in the next room into the early hours of the night. The reviews said the staff were "welcoming" and "helpful", I guess that depends on who's on shift, because we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Although we had plenty to complain about, we didn't want to add a bad atmosphere to the list, so we tried to overlook everything and focus on our time away from the hotel. We have stayed in many basic 3 star hotels which were much better in quality than this one. Overpriced and fails to achieve the bare minimums anyone would expect from a hotel stay.

we arrived late on a Saturday night to be told that the hotel was over-booked and they had booked a room for us in a nearby hotel. We were quite happy to go along with this, the room they had booked was more than adequate and only a couple of hundred yards away from the first hotel. For the second and third nights of our stay we returned to the Silken St Gervasi hotel and were upgraded to a suite (with jacuzzi, king-size bed etc) at no extra cost, to make up for the inconvenience. The staff were very helpful and the room was just perfect. The hotel is near a metro stop (El Putxet), and very easy to find, it is also a nice distance away from the city centre to allow an escape from the madness. Overall a very happy stay, will return again if we are in Barcelona

Stayed in this hotel in late Nov 2006, and we enjoyed it. The reception staff were friendly and smiley, and the hotel room clean and tidy. It was still warm by the time when we visited, but the air-con just did the job. I don't think there's a safety issue. As we observed, the area is very nice and we felt safe walking around. Location is all right, as it is very close to the metro station as well as some local cafes and restaurants. A market hall is just around the corner, perfect if you want to stock up some local produce. The down side is the thin wall. We could hear next door quite clearly on the last night we stayed, though we heard nothing on the previous nights.
Tips: The hotel is not far from the Park Guell. If you don't want to take the metro and to tackle the uphill walk, just get a taxi from the hotel. It costs about 4 euros one way.

This hotel is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood, about 10-15 minutes from Plaza Catalunya (a main hub in Barcelona for tourists) on a direct line on the metro. It is just around the corner from the metro stop, and the area is one that we felt safe coming back to, even late at night. The facility is very nice, and the buffet breakfast has a nice selection of foods

I wouldn't waste your money. Not impressed with this motel at all. The rooms are definitely not up to the standard the pictures show and all of these people saying it is 'nice' have obviously never stayed in a nice hotel. Ordered a room for a couple and got 2 single beds pushed together. Called to order room service at 7pm and was told the kitchen was closed. Far away from attractions too. Wifi is painfully slow and our air conditioner is blowing hot air.

Just returned from 5 night stay. Booked at last minute based on reviews & price.

Location & Directions:
Although this is out of city centre, the advantage is it's quieter, better value & the train station is 2mins away. The maps on the site & Google aren't that accurate, so follow these directions:
From airport get the blue aerobus to the terminus at Placa Catalunya (it only costs 7 Euros return & takes about half an hour). At Pl Catalunya, cross to the opposite side of the square (like a big roundabout) & on the corner of the next street look for the sign for FGC station. If you're here for a few days, select the T10 ticket option - this allows 10 journeys on any Metro/FCG Train/Bus in Zone 1 (otherwise just get a single for 1.30 Euros). Take the brown Line 7 to El Putxet Station (5 stops to Pl Catalunya) - takes less than 10mins.
When leaving El Putxet, as you come up the steps, bear right & use the exit signposted 'C. Joaquim Folgeura'. At street level, turn right & look for 'Mercat de Sant Gervasi' (an indoor meat/fruit & veg market). Walk down the side of this & across a pedestrianised square to the road that runs parallel to the one you left. The road you are then on is Carrera de St Gervasi de Cassoles (which is the actual address for the hotel). Head left down this road & about 200 yards on the left is the hotel (opposite the SPAR supermarket). There's several cafe's, tapas bars & restaurants nearby (the hotel breakfast was ok for the money, but the evening meal we had was overpriced & they even charged us for the bread rolls!). As it's a residential area, take your phrasebook with you as, unlike in the city, the local restaurants don't have the menus in English. Alternatively, get the train back into the City for lots of choice.
Staff on reception speak good English & were very helpful.

Room: We had room 5 to the left of reception on the ground floor. Was a little concerned about noise, but it wasn't that bad, apart from the noisy guests above us who thankfully left after 2 nights. This room had the advantage of a small balcony, but only actually got sun for about half an hour. Room 6 next door was better positioned, but as the rooms face into an internal 'courtyard', the surrounding walls tend to block much of the sun. The room was a good size with a decent sized bed, wardrobes & safe deposit box . Decor is contemporary & functional, although TV picture quality was poor. There's a small mini bar with enough room to store some water/soft drinks from the SPAR across the road. No tea/coffee facilities in room (seems to be a common theme in Barcelona!). Bathroom was good size with shower/bath & hairdryer. Good range of complimentary toiletries i.e. tissues/
toothbrush & paste/disposable razor & cream/small bottles of shampoo & bath gel/bath sponge/comb, but only a 2inch square piece of soap! Aircon works, but heating didn't (we had mixed weather, so had to turn off air con to keep room warmer).

Out & about: To get back to city take FCG train to Placa Catalunya - you're then at the top end of Las Rambla & can use Metro to most places from there. Alternatively, if you want to visit Park Guell, just turn left out of hotel & when you reach main road, cross over to other side & walk up to the right about 200 yards to get the no: 74 bus - tell the driver where you want to go & they'll happily tell you when you're at the right stop (think it's near Larrard). At the drop off, cross over the dual carriage way & walk down to the left then take the 2nd right up the hill - it's signposted up to Park Guell. To get to the city from there look for the park exit nearest to Valcarca Metro station (near Glories?) - it's about 400 yards downhill to the station & turn right at the main road (again it's signposted all the way).

We stayed at this lovely 3 starts hotel in July 2004. Although it's far from the center, we were happy with our choice since the hotel was new (European hotels tend to be in rather old buildings, and have old, too soft beds etc.), very clean, and served a fresh breakfast with great coffee.
The staff was nice and efficient, and helped us immediately with every question or problem.
So the pleasant atmosphere in the hotel totally made up for the relatively large distance from the center.

My wife purse was stolen here at St Gervasi Hotel in Barcelona Spain,me and my wife had decided to vacation in Europe it would be a three country trip with Barcelona Spain being our first stop,on our last last day here we gathered our belongings and went to the front receptionist desk to check out were attended by the only employee behind the front desk,we check out and asked if she could get us a taxi, which she did my wife asked also asked if she could print out our boarding passes she said yes and took her to the computer desk.I sat down with our luggage,I noticed a male standing around he had khaki pants and khaki shirt with a matching hat I figured he worked here after some time I decided to see if my wife was through printing our boarding passes I walked over to the computer desk and she said still working on them, when I look up and outside I noticed a male with same uniform on as the other male same khaki pants, shirt but no hat he gestured to me with his hand so I figured it was about the taxi.I got two of our luggage and went outside and a taxi did pull up,the driver got out and asked me if I was the one who needed the taxi said yes, them my wife comes running out asking me if I had her purse I said no,we went back into the lobby and wife informed me a lady by the receptionist desk gesture to her with her finger down stairs,so I went down stairs this was stupid it leads to a large empty and dark room.I went in with the only employee that was working behind the receptionist desk following me all the time telling me I could not be here,I decided I better get out of here I could easily be beaten or worse.I went back upstairs and we asked the employee to call police and hotel security she said there is no security personal only cameras,we asked how about police, her only response was you are going to miss your next flight you need to go to the u.s consulate and get a copy of your wife passport which was inside her purse that was stolen,we asked if she was going to make a report about the robbery she said no but asked me for my phone number because in the pass they find purse with only the money gone and that this has actually has happened to her she has found purses.Reluctantly we had to go to the U.S consulate and get a temporary passport, upon arriving to the U.S consulate we spoke with a male who help us get a temporary passport.I have since spoken to a supervisor of the hotel by phone she has offered to reimburse us for the cost of a taxi ride to the U.S consulate and a copy of the passport.thanks for reading my review, Truthfully William Fuentes

We arranged our trip via Groupon and were nervous about the hotels we would be placed in - expecting the worst, but hoping for the best. We were pleasantly surprised with Silken St. Gervasi Hotel in Barcelona. The front desk associates were friendly and helpful providing us with a map, directions, and pointing us to the metro just around the corner behind the hotel. The room included two small twin beds pushed together, which is standard for the region. We visited in December and even though it was in the 60's, the heat was cranked and we had no control over the temperature in our room. Fortunately, we were able to open our windows and still get a good night's sleep due to the relatively quiet neighborhood. The room had a mini-fridge and there is a market right around the corner to pick up snacks and drinks so don't pay inflated prices for what the hotel puts in there. There was also free wifi. It didn't work spectacularly, but that is also standard for hotels in the region. We had a hair dryer and a bidet, but I was surprised to learn that wash cloths aren't a thing in much of western Europe. Another general observation about hotels in western Europe is they have no curtains or means for containing shower water and you can't help leaving a sizable puddle on the bathroom floor. The free breakfast at Silken St. Gervasi was one of the more generous we had in any of our hotels and included bread, pastries, cheeses, meats, cereal, fruit, and among other options. A cab ride to/from the airport is about 30 euro.

Hello madam, If you take a Metro (ferrocarrils), the line 7, from "El Putxet" (near to the hotel) to "Plaza Cataluña" it will take 12 minutes. By car it's 15 more or less. Kind regards, Lara from reception.

There is a good coffee shop and small bakery around the corner. The metro line is 1 block away. It was 2 Euros for a round trip to Placa de Catalunya.

As previously stated by other reviewers, the metro is very close by and only a few stops away from many sites. The hotel staff was very helpful with directions. The metro was easy to navigate and very clean. Enjoy!
