The area is very peaceful so that your sleep won't be disturbed by the late-night revellers crowding the centre of Barcelona.
The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the famous blue tram station (at the foot of Tibidabo Montain).
The metro station is just round the corner. The station's name is El Putxet (the Catalans pronounce it El Puchet) and is on the brown line L7.
From it you can reach Plaça de Catalunya in a few minutes.
We discovered by chance (the hotel staff didn't say a word about it and asked 17 € per night for parking in their garage) that in August parking is free of charge there and in many other areas outside the centre of Barcelona (just check the yellow notice AVISO IMPORTANTE stuck to the parking meters).
The breakfast in the hotel costs 14 € but just round the corner there's a bar where you can have breakfast for about 5 €.

Stayed 4 nights at this Silken, it is a modern hotel and is located very near a metro station which is only 4 stops from Las Ramblas. Rooms are adequately sized with flat screen TV, mini bar, free safe and air con. The entire hotel is very clean and modern. The restaurant is small with a limited menu but the food was excellent. We did feel sorry for the one and only waiter who has to work extremely hard to take orders, carry out the food, clean tables, serve drinks to diners plus those who are only drinking at the bar and deliver room service. The guy was dripping with sweat, running everywhere but maintained his professionalism at the same time - all this whilst the receptionist sat only metres away checking in the odd guest and playing on the computer.
The hotel is on a quiet side street but during rush hour is it used as a cut through and can get noisy if your room faces on to the road.
In summary, good value, clean, tidy and well located.

This hotel had pretty good reviews for the price range - one of the cheapest hotels we could find at peak season - and we can pretty much back them up. The biggest plus is its proximity to public transportation that can get you into town in no time.

The hotel itself is very clean and rather upscale for a not-so-expensive hotel. The room was quite tight with a baby bed, but very nice. The shower, as mentioned by others, has a ridiculous screen that doesn't always keep the water in, and there was no plug to fill up a bath (though we always carry one in case of such situations). Contrary to some other review, we didn't like the staff too much, as they seemed reluctant to give much information or help.

The location is not bad. Outside the center, but with some shops, restaurants and boulangeries near by. As mentioned, the metro (L7) is a two minute walk away, and there are a bunch of buses even closer. One thing to mention is that if you have a baby with a stroller, the metro stop has no elevator or escalator, so be ready to deal with (quite a few) stairs. This is true for many stops in Barcelona (very surprisingly). Also, the room doesn't have an electric kettle, but they will provide you with hot (boiled) water from the lounge bar.

Pros:
- Room was ok, nothing special (furniture could be up to date).
--> Warning: 1st floor is for smokers. Unfortunatly i stayed my first night in a room in that stinky floor and i am a non-smoker... it was just terrible!!! next day i got a room in 3rd floor. much better!
- Metro Station / Bus Station / Small Supermaket (El Putxet) 1 min to go.
- Daily room cleaning service.
- Very friendly stuff (only the one guy in the restaurant/bar seemed to be incompetent. see below)

Contras:
- Garage not really usable, moving/turning the car in the parking slot nearly unpossible and for that it is too expensive (18€/day)
- Restaurant: I tried to use the restaurant for one time. There was only 1 person, who act as barkeeper/service/cook/... at the same time. After waiting 15min without any service at the bar, i asked him how long it would take to get something to eat. Answer 45min more. Unbelievable! His job is not easy, but he could speak to me, instead of letting me wait so long without giving me any information... I went to Pizzaria near to the hotel and got my Pizzas in 10 minutes.
- Housekeeping/cleaning personal was so loud, it was unpossible to sleep. i thought she is maybe trying to CLEARING OUT the room, instead of CLEANING. she rammed/hammered the vaccuum clenaer at any furniture/door/...
- Connectivity with WLAN could be better.

I booked that hotel because its cheaper price compared with the other hotels.
I think, next time i would book a hotel near to Pl Catalunya.
