EXCLUSIVEKieran Trippier's marriage is 'on the rocks' and been 'strained for some time', insiders say - after England star's wife Charlotte sparked speculation with cryptic message while staying away from Euros

Kieran Trippier's marriage is on the rocks after his wife wrote a cryptic post on Instagram and unfollowed him, sources close to the footballer have told MailOnline.

The England full back's six-year marriage to Charlotte Trippier is said to have been strained for 'some time' with the couple trying to sort out their differences prior to the Euros getting underway, sources revealed.

Charlotte, 29, is mother of Trippier's three sons, but, unlike other WAGs who have been cheering the team once in Germany, she has chosen to stay away from the Euros.

A source revealed: 'It's been known for some time that things are not good between them. They've had a number of issues and have been trying to resolve them but it's proving to be quite a challenge.

'Charlotte has stayed in England with their children during the Euros, unlike the other WAGs who have all been flying to Germany for the games. It will be interesting to see what happens between them once the Euros are over.'

Charlotte provided an insight into her troubled marriage to the Newcastle star Trippier when she took to Instagram just 48 hours before England's final group game against Slovenia and posted a cryptic message.

In her post, Charlotte wrote: 'Sooner or later you get over the s*** you swore you'd never get over and it's the best feeling in the world.'

Further posts in the story, which included the caption 'the sun is shining, happy Monday', show the WAG sitting in the car listening to music while she waits to pick up her children from school.

The profile belonging to her husband did not come up in the list of accounts she was following - leading social media users to claim she had unfollowed him.

Charlotte has not posted a picture of her and Trippier for the past two months and her absence from the stands during England's Euro games has not gone unnoticed.

She also previously described herself on her Instagram page as 'married' and listed her interests as: 'Family. Fashion. Travel.' But her profile now states: 'Newcastle. Mummy. Fashion lover. Travel.'

Last Friday was a family day for the England players, where their partners and children spent time with them at the team's Blankenhain base.

But Charlotte was at Newcastle fair The Hoppings, sharing snaps on her Instagram of her day out with the couple's three children.

The source said: 'Kieran is a very popular player within the England camp and some of his teammates know what's going on. But his focus, like that of the other players, is on the games, that's what's most important right now.'

Last year, he was filmed getting close to a blonde woman in a Newcastle karaoke bar where he was with teammates celebrating the team's qualification for the Champions League.

In the footage, he wrapped his arms around the mystery woman and then picked her up by the bottom as the crowd belted out a karaoke tune.

Trippier and Charlotte, who are childhood sweethearts, married in June 2016. Charlotte used to also run Instagram fashion blog Style Up Sisters alongside her sister Rosie Wray, but the account appears to no longer be active.

The couple appeared together in a Prime Video documentary about Newcastle United in which she spoke candidly about her difficulties when they moved to Spain where Tripper was playing for Atletico Madrid.

She said: 'When we first moved to Madrid, I was on my own for long. I felt so lonely, 'cos people don't see that side of things. About four months in, I was saying to him 'I don't know if I can stay here Kieran, I feel depressed. I've got no family over here, I've got no friends here.'

Trippier's marriage troubles present further problems for England manager Gareth Southgate as he tries to stop the WAGs overshadowing performances on the pitch during the Euros.

The England camp has been trying in vain to keep a lid on stories about Trippier's teammate Kyle Walker's marital blow-up – and allow him to concentrate on his football after both wife Annie Kilner and ex-lover Lauryn Goodman attended the last game versus Denmark.

The two women sat in separate parts of the ground with England security officials under strict instructions to keep Lauryn away from Annie and other WAGs.

Prior to the tournament kicking off, players' families had been warned by the FA about the importance of their domestic troubles not leaking out during the Euros because of the impact this might have on their performances.

A source said: 'Gareth Southgate and the FA will be furious that their approach of trying to keep personal news about the players from appearing in the media during the Euros has failed.

'It's actually been a bit of a disaster because first you had Lauryn Goodman going to Germany and now there's all this speculation surrounding Trippier.'

Part of the FA's drive to keep any news related to WAGs out of the media is underpinned by its desire not to see a repeat of what happened during the 2006 World Cup in Baden Baden, when they dominated the headlines.

For this year's Euros, none of the WAGs have been staying in Germany and there is no official WAGs hotel.

To further add to Southgate's woes, Lauryn has already indicated that she may return to Germany with the son she shares with Walker to watch him in action this weekend for the team's round of 16 match.
