Tom Hanks marked his 68th birthday on Tuesday.

The Forrest Gump star — who's son Chet recently fired back at haters for misusing his 'white boy summer' phrase — received a sweet tribute from his wife Rita Wilson, 67, on Instagram for his special day.

'Happy Birthday to my love! You made the world a better place the day you were born. You bring joy wherever you go,' she began.

'You are the bringer of laughs, a lover of vehicles, or pretty much anything, shaped like a round bath tub,' she continued. 'The bookshelves in our house shout from their bindings your love of history and the unexpectedly romantic Maeve Binchy.

'You get as much pleasure from recording your radio show @bossradio66 as you do from listening to any kind of surf music on vinyl. @tcm is your go to channel any time of day or night,' she went on.

While chatting with Oprah in 2001, Hanks opened up about his childhood and how it influenced his relationship with Rita.

'I married into a classic old-world family structure in which people like to spend time with each other and construct their lives so they can. That hadn't been part of my existence up till then,' he explained.' There's such an advantage to being involved in the day-to-day details of each other's lives. It's a marvelous fabric to exist in.'

The A Man Called Otto star continued, 'The success of our relationship was a matter of timing, maturity, and our willingness to have an intimate connection.'
