Vanessa Williams announces MAJOR update on Devil Wears Prada musical... as it's revealed Meryl Streep looks set to reprise her role for rumored sequel movie

Vanessa Williams has promised that fans of The Devil Wears Prada will get to hear Miranda Priestly's cutting lines from the beloved movie in the new musical adaption of the hit flick.

The production will see Williams, 61, take on Meryl Streep's iconic role as the fearsome magazine editor during its run in London's West End.

Giving fans an update on what to expect when the show kicks off later this year, Williams revealed theater-goers will be pleased to witness several famous lines from the film.

'A lot of the dialogue is actually taken from the film, so what you will hear me say on stage is the dialogue that people know and love and have memorized,' she told Tuesday's Good Morning America.

'The first number I do is called The House of Miranda. In the last words, I sing "That's all!" And I walk off. You'll understand that this is the film from the very beginning. My first lines are "Emily! Emily!" so then the audience will know, "Oh God, she's coming".'

Though some have been skeptical about the decision to turn the film into a musical, Williams argued that it makes perfect sense.

'The Devil Wears Prada is a perfect movie... That's why it has legs and stands the test of time,' the former Miss America gushed. 'This is yet another step to take something that is perfect and bring it into another genre and make it spectacular.'

She continued: 'You’ve got the lines that people know and are adding music to it. It's adding layers, it's going to make it bigger and better.'

The music for the play has been created by legendary British musician, Sir Elton John, and Williams revealed that the pair have enjoyed a collaborative experience while bringing the songs to life.

'I grew up with Elton John like we all did,' she said. 'As the pop star, the icon that he is.

'To have him write new music and have him listen to my voice and what I'm doing with it, and be inspired and say "I've got something we can do, let's do this". To make him smile and make him good and happy... this is an icon.'

The musical is based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling 2003 novel and the 2006 blockbuster film that went on to gross $326.7 million worldwide against a budget of $35-41 million, on route to receiving two Academy Award nominations.

As many Ugly Betty fans will know, this isn't the first time the actress has taken on a role where she plays a fierce fashion magazine boss.

When asked why she enjoyed channeling a villain, Williams replied: 'When you play the villain, when you play somebody so over-the-top, it's quite freeing.

'It allows you to kind of sit in your fierceness that you don't often have the opportunity to do.'

As for how much fashion will play a part in the production, she explained: 'I guarantee you there will be coats being thrown, and bags being placed on the desks.

'You will see fashion and you are going to see it worn beautifully and executed amazingly. The runway sequences are going to be incredible!'

The interview comes just one day after it was revealed that a sequel movie is in the works at Disney - nearly two decades after the first hit cinemas.

The story will follow Priestley and her career in present day as traditional magazine publishing is on the decline.

While the original cast has not yet been confirmed to return, it has been claimed that both Streep, 75, and Emily Blunt, 41, who played Emily Charlton, will be back.
