EXCLUSIVEJoe Biden's brutal four-month campaign schedule revealed - as doctors question if his body can cope

Hillary Clinton described the presidential campaign as so brutal on the mind and body, you'd ‘have to be crazy’ to go through with it.

Joe Biden, 81, has four months to convince Americans to vote for him over Donald Trump - and doctors fear for the toll it'll take on the ailing president's health.

Between the disastrous debate last month - that sparked calls for Biden to stand down - and election night on November 5, Biden will have traveled more than 15,000 miles, a very conservative estimate based on his known schedule and comments from his team.

He will also have done more than 100 public and private speaking events, and his staff has said the president will continue to follow an 'aggressive' travel schedule, not to mention his rematch debate against Trump on September 10.

But doctors tell DailyMail.com the stress, jet lag and disrupted sleep and diet could exacerbate any neurological or physical problems the president has.

Dr Raj Dasgupta, chief medical advisor for Fortune Recommends Health, told this website: 'In regards to travel, as we age, our body’s ability to adapt and recuperate naturally begins to slow down.

'A hectic travel and event schedule can have significant adverse effects on the health of an elderly person.

'The stress from such a demanding schedule raises the risk of heart problems, like high blood pressure, hypertension, heart attacks, or strokes.

'A lack of downtime and self-care can make existing health issues worse.'

Additional health risks that come from a disjointed schedule include dehydration, poor diet and nutrition and a weakened immune system.

Dr Kevin Huffman, founder of Ambari Nutrition, told DailyMail.com routine travel stress can also lead to an increase in blood pressure and blood clots, which can raise the risk of strokes.

He said the jet lag from multiple flights a day, combined with a demanding public appearance schedule, can induce anxiety and confusion.

Dr Huffman added: 'The anxiety and confusion induced by disorienting settings and excessive demands are especially dangerous in elderly patients with subtle cognitive slowing, who can be rapidly overwhelmed by unfamiliar routines.'

The president already struggles with several pre existing health conditions, including sleep apnea, acid reflux, an irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol, allergies, arthritis and nerve damage in his feet.

In the 10 days after Biden's dismal debate with former President Donald Trump, 77, he went on an unprecedented campaign blitz in an attempt to quell fears about his age and mental acuity.

After months of limited interviews and reduced appearances, Biden visited nine states and attended multiple campaign events.

But several gaffes and moments of confusion - including claiming he was the first black woman to be president - have done little to convince people Biden is up for a campaign challenge.

Despite the concerns, White House staff insist the president is still as sharp as ever.

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre assured press on Monday that Biden is healthy - stressing that a Parkinson's expert who has visited the White House numerous times was not there to evaluate the president.

And White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby defended the president after his debate performance, telling reporters he has never questioned his lucidity or executive functions.

In the next two weeks, Biden will travel to events in Michigan, Texas and Nevada.

In total, in the three weeks following his fumbled debate, the president will have traveled to 13 states and covered at least 7,400 miles.

He will have attended and spoken at 23 different events and spent about 20 hours traveling.

Biden’s campaign schedule past July 17 has not been confirmed yet, but his campaign has said the president intends to travel to every swing state before polls open in November.

Those states include: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

DailyMail.com calculated estimated miles Biden would fly if he traveled from the White House to the capital cities of each swing state - totaling approximately 7,380 more miles and 20 more hours on Air Force One.

He will also fly about 600 miles from DC to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention taking place between August 19 and 22.

Biden will also need to prep and travel for his second debate with Trump on September 10. A location has not been announced.

The campaign has also said it plans to adopt an ‘aggressive’ travel schedule and unscripted events and interviews, which could mean squeezing even more events onto the calendar in between the president's already extensive travel plans.

This conservative estimate means by election day, Biden will have spent more than 40 hours flying over at least 15,000 miles since taking part in June's debate.

Family medicine physician Dr Laura Purdy told DailyMail.com Biden's campaign could overwhelm him, increase his mental load and cause stress.

Dr Dasgupta told DailyMail.com: 'Overall, such a schedule can be very tough on an elderly person's health and needs careful management. Not to mention that all the circadian rhythm disruptions and stress can also add up resulting in travel fatigue which can lead you to feel groggy, cranky and exhausted.'

In the last two months, Biden has attended 89 events, including 54 in May and 32 in June, according to a log of his campaign activities by The New York Times

He has held two rallies since May 1, attended 16 fundraisers and given seven speeches.

Additionally, Biden has had 13 interviews in the last two months.

While Biden's scheduled seems filled to the brim, it is historically low compared to previous presidents.

Compared to the three incumbent presidents running for re-election before him, Biden traveled to the second fewest campaign events in the first half of the election year — 90.

In 2004, former President George W Bush, then 57 years old, traveled to 102 events and in 2012, former President Barack Obama, then 42 years old, traveled to 120 events between January and June of the election year, according to a review by Axios.

Biden's light schedule adds to the growing concern that he isn’t up to the job and his frequent and repeated freezing episodes and lapses in memory and train of thought continue to worry voters and even prompt calls from democratic lawmakers for Biden to drop out of the race.

Responding to these calls, Biden doubled down, writing a letter to Democratic leaders that he will not step down. Instead, he insisted his poor debate performance was because of a cold and lack of sleep.

Going forward, the Biden campaign announced, the president will no longer hold events after 8 pm so he can get more rest.

Sleep deprivation, especially in old age, can lead to spikes in blood pressure, extra tax on the heart and impaired cognition and concentration. People can also feel confused, delirious and emotional.

A lack of sleep can negatively impact certain areas of brain function, which can be particularly problematic for seniors who are experiencing cognitive decline or dementia.

The doctors also told DailyMail.com the hectic travel schedule could result in a compromised immune system, leading Biden to come down with a virus or bug.

Proper nutrition and physical exercise is often hard to maintain when jetting from city to city and the experts told this website this could lead to a poor diet and weight gain, increasing the risk of obesity and diabetes.
