THE 10 CLOSEST Hotels to Moraine Lake

Hotels near Moraine Lake

Known for its views of the Ten Peaks, this glacial lake is a stunning sight within Banff National Park. The hiking trails around the lake offer varying levels of difficulty, but the Rockpile Trail offers some of the best views. If you want to fully immerse yourself in the area, stay at the lakeside hotel and take an early morning canoe ride. The infrastructure here is basic, but that only adds to the natural beauty. Plan your visit from mid to late June to catch the incredible reflection of the mountains in the lake. – Tripadvisor

    A must see
This was probably my personal favourite of all of the things we saw or did around Banff. The crowds are not as large as Lake Louise but the view is even better. You have to arrange for a shuttle in or be prepared to hike for the better part of your day. There is no public parking. We found a shuttle a bit late and likely overpaid but it was worth it. There was basically no wait for a canoe rental, unlike the huge line at Lake Louise. We rowed out to the middle and relaxed for a while while eating lunch in the canoe. The was one of my personal bucket list items

    Emerald Glacial Lake
I will forever envision this experience in my "bucket-list" file. Get a shuttle early, as parking is very limited, both here and Lake Louise. Be sure to hike up the "rock-pile" (Moraine) Good idea to have some rail gear too.

    Don’t miss this
Don’t miss this!!! I know the shuttle service is new but I think it is a good idea and am glad Canada Parks is making the effort - I actually wish they would let less organized tours and increase capacity on the shuttle Anyway - don’t miss this spot!! And it sounded off when people told us this - don’t miss the gift shop Some cool things only available there

Best lake in the Canadian Rockies!! The most amazing blue color you will ever see!
Out of all the lakes I saw in the Canadian Rockies on my tour this was my favorite lake by far! Lake Louise was second, for me. The blue color of this lake is phenomenal!! You MUST take the trail up to the third viewpoint, just seeing the lake from ground level doesn’t do it justice. Even the first and second viewpoint are to die for! You walk up a lot of steps carved out of the rock, the views are amazing. I have multiple health issues and I was able to do it, it’s not far, just fairly steep but with very good stairs. I can’t recommend it enough!!!

    Beautiful views!
We took the Parks Canada shuttle to get to Moraine Lake and we’re not disappointed. The lake is beautiful and the main walking trail was a relatively easy out and back hike from the parking lot. If you’re able, take the time to walk in a little further where there are less people and it’s quieter. The Parks Canada shuttle can be booked online (free for anyone 17 and under), which cost us $19 for 2 adults and 1 teen. It leaves from the parking lot at the Lake Louise ski hill. The shuttle offers you a drive to Moraine Lake, connecting to Lake Louise and then back to the start where you’ve parked your vehicle. You must have a Parks Canada discovery pass or pay the daily entry fee for the park. It will be busy, parking is extremely limited at the lake itself as there are restrictions in place and your best bet is to book a shuttle bus. Plan to spend at least an hour here to truly enjoy it. There are canoes available for rental on site for $140/hour if that’s something you’d like to do too.

    picturesque is just the beginning
This place is as incredible as you might imagine. We enjoyed it - even though we did not get to it until 3:30pm. Just walking near the lake and to the opposite end is gorgeous. at the end of the trail along the lake there is a large tributary - - bring a book and read a while! Experience the setting in all its fullness.

    Spectacular sunrise!
One of the most picturesque lakes in the world. Parks Canada has limited the parking and so you have to take a tour bus or the hotel lake Louise shuttle ( if staying at the Hotel) early in the morning because sunrise is the most spectacular time. It’s well worth getting up early to view the lake reflections To be noted the spectacular pics are of the lake NOT of the sunrise which is behind you.

Awesome scenery. Loved the glaciers and also the blue green water of the lakes and rivers and of course the Rockies...
Tenting at Banff Natl park and visiting Lake Louise was a great part of my 5 wk. vehicle trip across Western Cda. 🇨🇦 Driving thru the Rockies was an awesome experience. Lots of twisty roads and steep hills was part of the trip and also seeing the various wildlife. Came across moose, deer, elk cariboo and bison and also bear along side of the roads eating grass and berries.

    Sunrise Left Us Breathless
We were staying at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and took their sunrise shuttle to Lake Moraine. We left about 05:30 and arrived about 05:50. We climbed the rockpile and made it to the top before sunrise. Sunrise left us breathless and speechless. Such a thing of beauty as the sun rises behind you and illuminates the tops of the ten peaks which then reflect of the blue lake. Just astounding probably one of the most beautiful sites ever! After sunrise we descended the rockpile and walked some of the lakeshore trail. We headed back about 07:45 plenty of time to experience the lake. Note you cannot drive to the lake as the road is closed to private vehicles best to arrange a tour, highly recommend sunrise if you can. Also rockpile is a mild climb with uneven stairs built into the rock. Those with knee problems or those markedly out of shape may have difficulty.

    Beautiful Moraine Lake
The lake hike loop is fantastic and easy hike. Picture perfect. Must take shuttle to park. Recommend to book early. After Moraine lake, you can take the shuttle to Lake Louise which is more busy.
