Nestled in a prime location, the Banff Ptarmigan Inn receives praise for its proximity to downtown attractions and convenient transportation, including complimentary bus passes. While the design and mountain views are appreciated by some, opinions on the atmosphere and amenities like the spa are divided. Rooms are commended for their comfort and size, yet the outdated decor and dim lighting have drawn criticism. The service is generally seen as amiable and efficient, despite occasional lapses, and most guests commend the hotel for its cleanliness. Overall, the value perception is mixed, with some guests questioning the facility and service quality relative to the price.

I was very pleased with this hotel. It was definitely clean and quiet at night (apart from people talking loudly walking back to their rooms at night). You can hear the train honking a few times each night but that is the same for all hotels in Banff I believe. There is no laundromat inside the hotel but there is one at the Cascades shopping centre 5 mins walk away called Cascades Laundry.
The breakfast is included in the room rate. The omelette station was good but the rest of the breakfast was just ok. If you go to Lake Louise on the early 7.45 bus there is a place there where you can have a very nice unlimited buffet breakfast for 15 CAD on weekdays, it costs slightly more on the weekends. The hotel is the last pick up and drop off so gives you the maximum time in bed in the mornings.
The bed was very comfortable and there is a fridge and coffee machine. The only thing that puzzled me is there was a bottom sheet as usual (on top of a mattress cover), a top sheet, then a duvet but not in a cover, then another sheet on top of that. Why no duvet cover? I guess the two sheets are the 'cover' but what inevitably happens is the duvet comes into contact with people's feet and bodies as it is difficult to contain the duvet between two loose sheets. I don't know if they wash the duvet as well between guests? That kind of put me off.
Other than that I had a great stay. I ate in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was good, a lot better than the breakfast was actually. Nice staff working behind the bar.

Stayed here for 1 night during our family vacation trip to Banff / Rocky Mountains at the end of April 2022. regular price of the 2 quuens bed superior room is at least $300 CDN per night, but we got 50% discount due to having a friend who was a former worker at this hotel.

The room is very spacious, with 2 flat screen TV and 2 seperate Queens Bed, seperate by a small washroom in the middle, and even include its own balcony. The washroom is small but stocked with lots of towels and shelves and mineral bath oils.
The room is also equipped with nespresso-like coffee machine and hot water kettle. The room does not have its own microwave, but there is 1 shared microwave in front the lobby desk. The ice machine down the hallway works well, although the hallway itself feels quite cramped. There are 2 mini hot-spa pools in the basement besides the underground parking garage, which you have to book hours for - we did not get the chacne to use it due to it being constantly full and in use at night after 8pm. And the massage services is self extra pay.

The Brekfast Buffet in the morning has tons of options and very filling, including coffee, tea, orange / apple juice, cereals, oatmeals toasts, corssiants, sausages, eggs, hashed taters, fuits. ..et.

First Pros, hotel staff very friends and helpful. Beds are very comfy. Because of Covid certain things were not in the room nor was their house keeping, but anytime we asked for something it was at our room within 5 minutes with a friendly smiling face. We ate at Meatball Restaurant one evening and it was very good. Close to downtown and basically you can walk anywhere from there including Bow Falls or Banff Springs Hotel, etc. We were able to park at the back of hotel in their parking lot.

Cons - no air in the bedrooms but nice and chilly in the hallways. Luckily we were on the 3rd floor so had a bit of breeze but our friends were on the 2nd floor and no air circulation. We opened the window/door with fan in front to cool off room. The hot breakfast only includes 3 dishes and all with eggs so that is not an option for people like me with egg sensitivity. It would be nice if they add a hot dish without eggs. they could not even make toast for me. It would also be nice if they had an option of fragrance free soap for those with perfume allergies. I asked at the desk and they said that's all they have so if you are allergic to perfume take your own products. Overall our stay was good other than those few concerns.

I had want to email the hotel directly about my concerns but couldn't find an email to contact other than one for reservations.

For the price that we paid, we didn’t expect the hotel to be so fancy. The room was far nicer and bigger than the room we stayed at the Lake Louise Fairmont for a fraction of the price! The room was super clean and very big. We had a nice balcony, but it was already too cold to sit outside. There was a nice big fridge, a kettle and a Keurig in the room. The toiletries are all Rocky Mountain branded, and I always live hotels that use dispensers instead of little single use plastic containers! There was complimentary breakfast and free basement parking, but the spots are limited so if you come in late, you would have to park outside (lots of free street parking!). It was right next to a Sobeys, and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in town. Absolutely was impressed by this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

Wow just wow. What a great hotel. It was in the heart of Banff downtown. Walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and bars. The room was up to date, very clean, lots of storage room. Nice bathroom Breakfast was included with a full menu and waitress serving you. Free parking as well. Just an hour away from emerald lake, lake Louise and moraine lake. Loved this hotel, 10/10 recommend for the price!

We had a few minor inconveniences like a broken hot tub, slow elevators and a redundant breakfast meal each morning but the folks here try real hard to make sure everyone is happy. The beds were comfortable, Bath rooms clean. Despite some concerns expressed by other travelers our room at the end of the building was nice and quiet.

We found out later in the week and too late to take advantage of it, but guests of the Ptarmingan can use the Hot Tub next door at the Moose Hotel.

The hotel has an odd lay out. The lobby is on a 1/2 floor between the basement and floor one. To further complicate things there are no stairs convenient to walk in-between the floors so you are constantly waiting for the elevator to travel 1-2 floors. During part of our stay only one elevator worked.

House keeping was timely and good. They did an exceptional job. The hot tub area was a low point. As other guests have mentioned - the location of this hotel is perfect. Right in town with the shuttle bus stop just outside the door. That alone made this a worthwhile place to stay. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

After an amazing time in Vancouver and driving for 9 hours to banff we arrived to a really disappointing experience to end our summer vacation at this hotel.
The initial expression of this hotel was decent as it looked spacious and clean in the lobby; however, the room that we were placed in was very disapponting and sub par for what we were gona be paying for per night.
As we arrived to our room and began unpacking we noticed that the room were extremely humid and stuffy, no AC monitor in sight and single fan in our room we explained to the front that the room is extrmely uncomfortable as it was 24 degrees. The front staff explained to us that there is no AC in any of the room and that they could not do anything about it other than bring us another fan. Fan is great for moving air in the room but not for sleeping as two fans were extremely loud at about 80dB. We opened the window and had to lift up the blind and compromise our privacy as we were on the first floor. We opened the window and our door to the hallway to have some air movment in our room prior to going to sleep; however, this was disrupted by screaming kids from the next door and unexpected individual popping his head into our room asking for room 236...(the room number is on the door and you should know which floor ure on, wtf).
As we got our very limited sleep in our room, we checked out the next morning shortening our vacation. And suggesting that they should update the room with ACs
One of the staff explained to us that the hallway is cooler because of natural air flow into the building...BS as hallway was air conditioned and the auditorium/meeting rooms were as well.
From our first experience at this hotel, likely we would not be coming back as there are other great hotels in the area with renovated amenities and room to make our experience more comfortable. I suggest that this.hotel update the rooms so it would be comfortable in the winter time AND summer time when its 30+ outside as the room did not cool off overnight :(

The good points of this hotel is Location, location, location. They provide a breakfast each morning which had many options. This is always nice to start a day. They also offer free bus passes which comes in very handy if you dont want to take the car out. The front end staff were very helpful answering questions.

The not so good points of this hotel are: NO Air Conditioning. I happened to read a trip advisor comment after I booked and fortunately I brought a couple of my own fans from home to help with the situation, in addition to the one that was provided by the hotel. Granted I stayed during a "heat wave" of 28C weather for three days. In future I will look for a hotel that has A/C during the summer months and use this hotel during winter months.

Housekeeping was not available but when I requested more towels and glasses they were quick to respond to my request.

This hotel is perfectly located. Right near all the shops, ski shuttle right outside, Roam stop 1 block away. It was really convenient to walk everywhere. Breakfast is included which most hotels here do not have. They give you scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon or sausage, cereals, instant oatmeal, bread, muffins, pancakes or french toast and best of all an omelette station. Coffees and teas are basic nothing fancy. Breakfast is from 7-10 and ski shuttles start at 7:45 and 7:55 so you have to get ready before breakfast to get the early bus. The room is decent, nice space, pretty bathroom, refrigerator. Coffee maker and electric tea kettle in the room were nice to have. The beds were a little too soft for me but I like a really hard mattress. Best part was the complementary soaps and lotion from Rocky Mountain Soap - great quality and smelled soooo good!!! Hot tub was not very hot and the jets barely do anything but there's also a dry sauna and steam room. Exercise area is in the same room as the 2 hot tubs and barely has anything - some free weights and an old exercise bike. Staff at the front desk was very nice and always helpful giving information.

The hotel is situated in a good position in Banff , near shops snd restaurants surrounded by lovely views. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the beds of good quality and very comfortable. That is the good points. The bad points are the rooms, the hotel does not have air conditioning only heating. A small vent has air coming in but as reception told us if it’s hot it will be hot air and if it is cold it would be cold air. It was hot while we were there and we were put in a room with no outside windows, there was glass and a door that opened onto a balcony overlooking a meeting room! there was a meeting going on when we walked out. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking the lobby, also with a balcony. So with no window to open the heat at night was awful. Blinds covered the glass so we had no idea when it was morning or whether it was raining or sunny. I have stayed in many hotel rooms but this was the worst. It had a tiny bathroom without a mirror or basin. The basin was situated on a little unit next to the small hanging space. We moved rooms for our last night which had a proper bathroom and windows that looked straight on to another building and the windows didn’t open. Compared to other hotels we had stayed at during our time in Canada, all the others had a microwave, an iron and ironing board a shaving mirror, this hotel had none only a microwave down in the lobby for all to use .The hotel included breakfast but it was very poor compared to what other hotels offer. Such a shame as in general it was a nice hotel with a bar and pizza restaurant but the important comfort that is needed in a bedroom was missing.

Great question! Here are the details from the Town of Banff: In Banff, smoking/vaping cannabis in public places is prohibited. The Town of Banff prohibits smoking and vaping of cannabis in public places, just as the consumption of alcohol is prohibited in public places. This means smoking or vaping of cannabis is prohibited in these locations: sidewalks, trails and paths streets, alleys and lanes parks, forests and green spaces public structures or street furniture Here is Parks Canada regulations (Outside the Town of Banff) In Lake Louise and Banff National Park, outside the Banff townsite, consuming cannabis is generally allowed, other than within five metres of a building. There are specific rules in place for campgrounds and Parks Canada buildings and sites within the Town of Banff.

Are guests of the Ptarmigan able to use the hot tubs/pools at the Moose hotel?
Answer from
Banff, Canada
Hi purevida948, Thank you for your message. Hotel Swimming Pools and Hot Pools were recently permitted to open for guests of the hotel, with very strict provincial capacity restrictions in place. This makes it difficult to accommodate every guest group when hotels are busier. We cannot guarantee that every guest group will have access to the pool or hot pool. Therefor, at this time the Moose Hotel & Suites and the Meadow Spa and Pools are not offering Day Access to rooftop pools, sauna and fitness facility, and the spa facilities, unless you are a guest staying at the Moose Hotel & Suites, or if you have treatments booked at the spa. Pool and hot pool use is subject to change at any time, including last minute closure of any amenity. Please reach out to us directly if you have any other questions. Kind Regards, Team Banff Ptarmigan Inn
