The Juniper Hotel is a tranquil oasis praised for its scenic location and proximity to attractions, offering guests a quiet escape with picturesque views. While the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and vistas, some reviewers point out dated decor. Despite the occasional highway noise, guests are generally charmed by the warm ambiance and historical touches. The staff's attentive service, including shuttles and surprise upgrades, receives accolades, though opinions on value and amenities vary, with some guests desiring more for their money.

Paid $220 for one night on a long weekend Feb 2020
Price was steep for a long weekend but still cheaper than other hotels in the same or above range in Banff
This hotel is across the transcanada highway on the top of a hill over looking Banff town, it is not within Banff town.
Hotel has free parking, staff are friendly and accommodated our needs well.
Restaurant bistro is very good, the food is also reasonably priced
Free strong wifi
Complimentary coffee/beverages in the room
No pool in the hotel, only one small hot tub which can sit ~8 or so adults until it gets really cramped up
Room was clean, bed and linens were average
We were not able to be given a Banff/mountain view despite requests - we were given a parking lot view

The Juniper is in a great location with easy access of the highway and quick access into town. It offers gorgeous mountain views from the south facing side which is what you are paying for.
When you sit on the balcony you lose the views due to the high balcony walls which is likely done for privacy but something to be aware of.
The room was dated and did not compare to the advertised picture on the site. One of the 2 beds were broken and the mattress was the hardest I've seen in a hotel.
The staff were welcoming and kind and the bistro was also delicious with great staff and allowed you to eat while enjoying the wonderful views.

We were hesitant to book a hotel away from the centre of Banff. Once we checked in, it was actually only a few minutes drive away and well worth this for such a peaceful stay with million dollar views of the mountains and nature.we stayed onbthe King Valley Suite with a Fireplace and large balcony (I think the nicest room) and for a good deal as we booked last minute. It was a slow time just after the Holiday peak so the 8 person outdoor hotub (with amazing views) was never busy and much enjoyed.the Juniper bistro has superb star cuisine. Their brunch specialty, Juniper Benny with rabbit on baked cheese is not to be missed! We went skiing at Norquay and Sunshine for 3 days which were 5 minutes and 15 minutes (to lodge) away respectively. Only mild shock was the mild smell of sulphur (from the water and common in the area) as we entered our room which was not noticed after a few minutes. Overall, best value for a quiet, peaceful and comfortable stay with best views and best food. Will definitelt stay there again when we return to Banff next.

Just returned from Banff in the height of the COVID scare. Hotels in Banff are at 10% occupancy right now, and prices are rock-bottom, ie our King Deluxe room cost $99/night instead of the usual $190. We asked the front desk manager if the upstairs suite, where we had our wedding 11 years ago, was empty, and if so could we upgrade to it. He said it was empty (so many cancelations) but we'd have to pay full price for it, so a difference of $400/night. I'd have been happy to pay up to $200 more per night for the suite, but he didn't give us any other choice than "Full price". So weird when the tourism industry is in free fall, you'd think he'd want to generate goodwill for the few who remained to spend money. At checkout, I asked him if he was giving huge discounts on rooms, and he said he was. He also said he'd never rented out the suite, and I said "Yet you wouldn't rent it to us at a discount?" He looked super embarrassed and said they couldn't rent it out for less than full price because of "housekeeping", because it took "longer to clean". Me, giving him a look of disbelief: "Ok, so you pay the housekeeper more to clean this room then? " Him: "No". So it's not only that he was trying to price gouge us, it's that he's really bad at it too. The other manager wasn't any better, he yelled at the front desk clerk in public because she was having problems finishing her regular jobs because so many people were checking out due to COVID. So it's not only that he treated her like dirt but he was also too dumb or too arrogant to care that the public got to witness him bullying her. My husband, who's also a manager, was in the lobby reading a book and he had to witness the whole thing. He told the manager, afterwards, to show more respect to his employees. And then the manager, instead of apologizing and making amends with the desk clerk, made an excuse for himself instead, saying he was under so much pressure with COVID. No acknowledgment of the stress his staff was under. Just himself. He did finally apologize but it was clear that it wasn't his first choice. And we didn't see that lady for the rest of our stay so I hope she didn't get fired. Overall, a huge lack of professionalism from two entitled,. rude managers,. it made me feel like the hotel was out to gouge us, and also made me feel sad for the employees there.

Thank you for your feedback and I apologize that you left The Juniper with an unsettled feeling. I do want to clarify that the conversation you overheard between our Front Desk Agent and Staff Accommodation Manager was about people checking out of Staff Accommodation; not the hotel. They were discussing daily tasks in regard to the cleanliness in our staff accommodation. This conversation should not have happened on duty at the hotel and we have taken action on this. In regards to our Three Bedroom Suite, this space is available for sale at $699+tx/night in the winter months. The $400 upgrade fee offered was a discounted price and I am sorry that this wasn’t made clear to you. We appreciate your feedback and will definitely use this as an opportunity to offer scenario training with our team. Sincerley, Christy Massey - Sales Manager

We booked over the New Years' week and the price of the cabin was super charged. We understand this is the "holiday cost" but the service offered was not up to par. We had spider webs over our beds, the sink faucet was broken, the dishwasher didn't work and the blankets over the beds had not been washed. If you are going to super charge you have to make sure the service is also up to standards.

The blending of history and modern Juniper hotel. You get the immediate sense of traveller's relaxing among the abundance of nature. Juniper is individual in it's character.  Not an unemotional chain lodge.  The Juniper was built in 1955 and yes, there is a highway that was there when traffic was a lot less but you are at the edge of trails, a walk into town and hear the sounds of trains tooting by and all while immersed in spectacular mountain views.  To wake up and look out our balcony windows at the magnificent mountain views are memory moments.  We made coffee and sat on the balcony contemplating our day. Too relaxed to move. We ate dinner in the bistro, wonderful. The menu has a good variety of food, constructed well while not pretentious. Great service by Daniel from Kildare, Ireland who has great ease with customers. Bistro manager, Ash has the attentivness and ease of a Michelin restaurateur. Spends time with every table while keeping an eye everywhere. Excellent hotel.
Note to visitors that seems to be a trend in all the hotels we have stayed in on this trip, you must specify if you want room housekeeping.  Possibly a residue from Covid but this lack of service does not decrease the price. Hmmmm!

The views are fantastic and you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg. We stayed here over Christmas with our two dogs and were very pleased with the room, the service, the food, the Covid protocols, friendliness of the staff and the dog-friendliness of the hotel. Unfortunately the hot tub was closed and the bistro is open for take-out or room service only. We ordered room service for a few meals and each time it was ready in under 20 minutes. The food was very good, however quite pricey. We could hear the folks staying above us loud and clear all night and morning, however we didn’t notice the people in the rooms beside us so it’s likely just that the room above us were particularly loud people that only brought ski boots for shoes 🙃. The room could have been a bit cleaner (minor details) and I didn’t find the bed or pillows the most comfortable but that’s just personal preference and certainly nothing that we let affect our stay! Would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you have four legged family members!

Nice location away from the bustle of Banff, but within an easy 5 minute drive into the city. The hotel is located right off of the highway, but we didn't notice any traffic noise. The rooms have almost everything you need, from a desk to a mini fridge, and the bed was very comfortable. It would have been nice to have a safe, and a bit more space - we weren't able to open two suitcases in the room at the same time without bumping into each other. Overall good stay, would come back.

We stayed in the King Valley suite with fireplace, it was a great room with an amazing view. We ordered room service, the Charcuterie board for an appetizer the night before and in the morning we ordered breakfast. Both meals were delicious. We ordered the breakfast poutine. It was delicious I would recommend. We ordered dinner in from another restaurant only because the the menu was limited. The view was amazing you are surrounded by mountains. It’s across the highway from Banff and doesn’t have anything else around the area which is very nice and secluded. You are close to the road and if you leave your window open you can hear the traffic. We did go in winter so the noise wasn’t bad. The bed was quite hard and I enjoy a firm bed but this was to hard for me. My partner prefers a softer bed and said they had a horrible rest. Other then that I really enjoyed my stay and I would stay again. Maybe a different room only to try out a different bed.

Glad we stayed here rather then deal with the craziness of Banff and it's parking issues. It is situated across the main highway but as long as you don't mind a 25 min stroll into town it's a nice walk once you have crossed the highway! Reception staff were helpful and the room was a decent size with 2 big double beds. I couldn't afford one of the ones at front with a balcony overlooking Banff but the ones at the back still have a nice view from window over forest and mountains.
As with other places they have a coffee machine but no kettle for those that like/prefer tea.
We also had an issue with the air con both inside room (as the controls didn't work properly and it wouldn't turn off to begin with) and also outside our room was a very loud air conditioning system mounted on the wall which kept me awake all night. When reported to the reception we were able to move room the next morning and I got the feeling I wasn't the first to complain. Avoid room 2028 if you want peace and quiet and to be able to listen to the sounds of nature outside which was the whole point of not staying in town.
I ate at restaurant one night but it wasn't anything special although at least more choice than the standard burger and pizza options in town.
Overall a decent place to stay but Iacking a bit of character and like everywhere else in Banff expensive!!
