Canalta Lodge receives acclaim for its vibrant atmosphere, complete with outdoor hot tubs and a welcoming lobby, although the lighting in the rooms could be improved. The service staff is celebrated for their helpfulness and insight, adding to the hotel's value despite some concerns over additional costs. Amenities, especially the inclusive breakfast and firepit s'mores, are highlights for guests, with some suggesting minor enhancements. We stay in Banff regularly and this was the first time we stayed at this hotel. It was clean and the front desk staff were efficient but not overly friendly, more businesslike which was fine.We were in town around 2:30 and went to see if our room was ready, and we were told check in is 4:00 so to come back.
It's not too close to town, which we knew and was fine as we enjoyed the 15 minute walk into town. I was turned off that if we wanted to park on the hotel ground in the underground parkade there was a fee, $12 or $14 I believe. Otherwise we could park on the street, which we ended up doing. We have stayed at almost every hotel along this strip and this is the first hotel that charged for parking.
The room was nice, coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge. The one small detail that I found gross was in the bathroom, a previous guest had used the hairdryer and A TON of hair was still in the attachment. How can that get overlooked? It made me wonder what other aspects of "clean" may have been overlooked?
We had a room on the second floor, and the kids running around on the third floor well past 11pm was frustrating. So if you plan to stay here I would request top floor if possible.
Breakfast in the morning was well done, typical free breakfast served, no buffet due to Covid which made sense. It would have been nice to not have to wait 15 minutes in line for a juice refill, the set up could have been better thought of for those purposes.
We would stay here again.

Dear MacFamily, Heartiest Greetings from Canalta Lodge, Thank you for your detailed and honest review.Reviews from our worthy guests like you help us to understand the areas we can get better and the areas where we met your expectations and need to stay consistent in. We sure will work on becoming friendlier and more awesome hosts and customer service providers.Banff being a pretty busy place with a huge volume of rooms check-ins and check-outs does provide a challenge in offering early check-ins and late check outs.I as a hospitality professional from years deeply regret from my and my team's side about our inability to honor an early check-in. The limited underground parking is now at $9/night.Many hotels include it in their room prices but we charge it separately as parking in Banff again is limited and so are our underground parking spots. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We regret any miss in housekeeping and will ensure we discuss this in our team meet.Your trust in us is deeply appreciated. We would love to welcome you again soon and strive to provide a better experience! Yours in Hospitality, General Manager and team Canalta Brooks

Wow! The Canalta Lodge is a lovely place to stay and we felt so comfortable and taken care of during our visit. It is clear to see that they value and make an effort with details that puts them above the average hotel. We were coming to celebrate our anniversary and they must have made a note in our booking, as they surprised us in room with towel swans, flowers, chocolate, and a bottle of wine. Our dogs had a good time and enjoyed the complimentary dishes and were provided with a treat and poo bags to ensure there was no shortage to keep Banff beautiful. There are only a few areas that the dogs are not allowed in and it was not inconvenient and very reasonable. We enjoyed the hot tubs and dry sauna as well as the complimentary s'mores kit. Breakfast is hot and some of the items change daily. It was clean and well organized and there was staff to wipe off the tables between use and plenty of hand sanitizer stations everywhere. The underground parking was under a little bit of construction so parking was maybe not as ideally easy and straightforward as one would hope, but it is secure and heated on a first-come-first-served basis. Walking to downtown Banff and restaurants was very easy to do and the evenings were quiet. They also provided complimentary ear plugs as the train still goes by overnight. It was a lovely pet friendly hotel and we would stay here again when we come back to Banff. The staff were friendly and lovely, the hotel was clean, modern, and well decorated, and the amenities were a great way to start and end the day of fun and adventures.

Hello Kelsey, Thank you for taking time to leave such a heartening and encouraging review of your recent Canalta Lodge stay experience. We are so happy to know that we were able to provide you with a stay matching the special occasion and were also able to provide a likeable home away from home to your pets (our furry guests :)). I remember you sharing the trust in booking the first time with us and I am glad we did not disappoint. We so appreciate all the details you noticed, mentioned and shared and all the Canalta Lodge team is smiles as they read your feedback. Thank you for being so understanding with the plumbing issue in a section of our parkade(we are just waiting for parts to have it resolved). Hope to see you again soon! We stayed 10 nights so that we could ski and do a small amount of regional sightseeing. ski bus and local bus stops very close by.
The room upgrade was great, very spacious with a nice balcony and a great mountain view.
We could have self catered but breakfast was included and we chose to eat out for dinner. Once having a light meal in the lounge area in front of the fire. The owner was very hospitable, the wine list was good.
Only criticism is the use of plastic instead of glass in the rooms and at breakfast.

Had a great stay at the Canalta Lodge, what a warm and welcoming hotel which has been recently modernised to an excellent standard. Our room was a kingsized one and also had a fridge and microwave, which came in very handy, the bed was lovely and comfortable and we had not water any time of the day, the Wi-Fi was also excellent, no dropping of signal at all. The only very small drawback was that The area to hang clothes was quite small (ok for short breaks, but not so good for a two week stay). The breakfast was great, including hot choices and great coffee, an excellent start to a full days skiing. The hot tubs and cold tub were in a pretty small outdoor courtyard, which I can imagine would get a great atmosphere in the warmer months, especially on an evening when you can also get coffee, alcohol and food from the small "Happy Camper" coffee shop.
The Canalta is at the far end of Banff Avenue, which we found to be a nice walk, especially after a huge meal, but for just 2 dollars you can hoo on the local Roam buses which run quite regularly. However it is virtually the first stop for the ski buses, so you know you will always get in the first bus, so that's a great plus.
The staff were great and nice and friendly and it was a pleasure staying here. 😍😍

Just spent 10 nights at this hotel, and have to say it was a very underwhelming experience. While most things were just ‘ok’ and we had no major complaints, we had an overriding feeling of disappointment for most of our stay, especially after having had some time to explore Banff and see what other hotels were available.
After a very long journey to get there, we arrived at the hotel about midnight. We checked in, made our way to the room. The room was cold. There was no linen/pillows for the sofa bed, no table and chairs and no kettle despite tea and coffee sachets being available. The room overlooked a courtyard area with hot tubs, which as we soon discovered, was pretty noisy until 11pm every night. Without jets or bubbles, they looked fairly uninviting so we refrained from using them. Storage space in the room was minimal, so the 3 of us basically lived out of the suitcases throughout our stay.
Breakfast was a self service style affair, in an area to the side of the main reception. Whilst there was an adequate choice on offer, it remained exactly the same every day for the duration of our stay, which became boring. Sausage, Scrambled Egg and Potatoes every day! Plastic knives and forks and paper cups just lowered the eating experience further.!
The entrance lobby and reception area just lacked any kind of ambiance, although I particularly liked the picture above the fireplace. The ski lockers in the basement were good, and although we didn’t use it, there seemed to be plenty of parking there too.
The hotel is at the end of Banff Avenue, about a 15 minute walk into town. For us this wasn’t an issue, and the ski bus pickup was fairly close, but if you prefer to be closer to the amenities you should take the location into consideration.
In conclusion, I left with the feeling that the hotel was ‘ok’, with a bit more effort ‘could’ have been so much better, and for the cost, ‘should’ have been better. Sadly on my next visit to Banff, I won’t be staying at Cannalta Lodge.

Hello James, Thanks for taking time to leave us a detailed feedback. We are sorry to know that we did not meet your valued expectations. Normally we do get great reviews and are mentioned amongst the top properties of the area in terms of value, ambiance and customer preference, on different platforms but any observations of our worthy guests, are humbly welcomed as they help us improve and continue working in the right direction. We are sorry to know that during such a long stay we could not build a connection to work/resolve any area that could have made your stay better. The heating unit in the room is auto sensor activated and should have turned on as soon as you entered the room. While the sofa bed does have a sheet but we should have provided a blanket/pillow based on the occupancy, sorry for the miss. Hope you were able to contact the front desk and we were able to address it right away... Normally we do not provide kettles unless requested. though the rooms do have a coffee machine (as most guests prefer coffee). There is a control switch to turn on the jets of the hot tub with labelling. We surely will work on improving the complimentary breakfast and adding more options to it. Most lodges in Banff charge for breakfast, so will consider any options that can help switching to better options or rotation. We are still refraining from having the actual cutlery in place of individually wrapped/pre-packed plastic cutlery but will see when we can get back onto the actual one or see options to individually wrap the actual one too. I have shared your feedback with all department heads. Thanks again for your review, Yours in Hospitality Sudeep Sandhu General Manager and team Canalta Lodge, Banff

Our family had two stays at this hotel in the past month. Both times it was great! We booked two rooms, and each time one of the rooms was given a free upgrade. Everything was clean, the location was near downtown (walking distance), parking was indoors and free, and there were free S'Mores to cook on the outdoor firepit. A decent hot breakfast was also included. What else do you need? Maybe a hot tub? They've got that too. Plus free WiFi.

The service at the front desk was very helpful and friendly, providing us with touring tips and suggestions. Lawrence went out of his way to help out.

We were lucky to be there in the off-season (October) so things were not crowded and prices were lower. The weather was still great, so we were fortunate all around.

Stayed at the lodge in the busy first week of January. We had a first floor room with very high ceilings and poor lighting. The advertised underground parking was full and it's not included with the price of the room, so be ready to hike around in the snow on the back street. The decoration and furnishings are a bit kitschy. Sleep quality wasn't great as the door lets in a lot of noise. The room was very warm even without any heat turned on. The AC actually woke us up multiple times with a high pitched whining sound. The temp outside was very cold so an open window wasn't an option. The hot tubs are very nice after a day skiing. There is an onsite mini bar and snack shop. Breakfast had lots of choices and good quality. The chia yogurt thing was delicious! The bus stops just down the road from the hotel so that's easy to catch for any of the ski areas. Walking to downtown is about a mile and there aren't a lot of places to eat right around the hotel.

Just came back from our trip at Canalta Lodge. The room was beautiful and very clean and we had fresh towels and complimentary products frequently.

Unfortunately the pillows on the bed were not the best meaning we did not sleep very well but this could have been due to jet lag also!

The hotel location is a 10-15 minute into town, it is a bit of a walk but we did not mind it at all.

The breakfast was 5 stars, although a suggestion is that they could provide gloves/sanitiser for picking up the buffet.

The staff were very polite and helpful. The free smoores was a lovely touch!

My review would have been a 4 - 5 stars if it wasn't for the hot tub situation, there are 2 hot tubs and 1 plunge pool. There is a sign saying 4 people in the hot tub at one time, this is not the case, especially during the weekend. We stayed over 2 weekends and found that as soon as it hit Friday the hot tub was filled with people drinking, they tended to sit in the hot tub until past 12oclock at night screaming, shouting and laughing (this was not policed by staff at all) unfortunately our hotel room was right above making weekends impossible to get an early night! I think the hotel needs to rethink this as it is unfair on other guest, for 2 weekends we was not able to use the hot tub at all due to groups of people sitting in it all night and then again the next day :( Maybe some sort of limited booking would benefit for the future.

Hello Jessica, Thanks for your valued feedback. We would have loved a 5 bubble review but we appreciate even more on you being fair and sharing with us your observations and room for improvement. We hope to overcome in future and get 4 or 5 bubbles :) We are happy to know that overall you had a good stay. Nice to know that you loved the room for its cleanliness and are satisfied with the staff and service. Sorry to hear about the pillows. We rarely get feedback about pillows but the liking varies from person to person. Thanks for sharing the feedback about breakfast, we do have 2 sanitizing stands on both sides of buffet but will see if the arrangement can be improved. We are glad to know that you loved the s'mores. Thanks for sharing the feedback about hot tubs. We will look onto options especially over weekends and will discuss with the team. We also hope to find a quieter room (facing on other side next time you stay with us).

The Canalta provided a great base for my son and I during our long ski weekend. The hotel common areas and rooms have been updated and are clean. The outdoor hot tubs (and cold tub!) were great after a long day on the slopes and the complementary breakfast was a nice way to start the day. The property is a bit further from downtown Banff than others but it's still an easy / short walk even in winter. An unexpected advantage of the location is it's one of the first stops on the Ski Big 3 buses in the morning and one of the first drop offs in the afternoon ! Best of all, the staff lef by Damien is top notch. They got to know us during our stay and went out of their way to make us comfortable and make out vacation memorable.

It was a shot in the dark didn’t know where to book in Banff as we had never been. My daughter found Canaltas Instagram page where they were offering a discount and were very responsive when we asked a question so we took a chance and booked a balcony room with kitchen. This place did not disappoint. Our room was not ready on arrival and staff said to come in and use the facilities and would store our luggage. So helpful and kind! The room was beyond perfect from the cleanliness to the decor. There is an on-site bar and the female bartender was the best she brought us our spiked hot chocolate to the fire we were sitting around outside. She then surprised us with free s’mores kits. So friendly and what an interesting person! Even the guy who cleans the hot tubs was so friendly and helpful. Speaking of the hot tubs… just perfect, clean and hot. We also had a sauna. I’ve already told my friends about the place and we plan on returning next summer with a group and I cannot wait!
Thank you Canalta! You made our first vacation in two years simply perfect!!!

How is parking there?
Answer from Ben B
Calgary, Canada14,150 contributions1,001 helpful vote
We were there on low season (and we're members of their chain) and didn't get charged for the underground parking - there are a lot of stalls down there. There's also some surface parking behind the hotel. Banff can be very very busy in the summer, and finding parking downtown can be quite the chore. It's a short hike into town, plus they do have a transit system (ROAM) that connects Banff town to many of the attractions in town and further afield.
