Lets get straight, you are in Barcelona to step out, enjoy the place and have parties. So basically, the objective to get a room is to sleep, eat and accessibility. The hotel is the best bet if you are taking a double accommodation with extra bed as it then works out to around 60 euros per person. There is a nice grocery shop located on the main road where you can pick up lots of nice and non touristy local stuff like tapas, breads etc. Rooms are equipped with stove and ample amount of utensils - a perfect independence to cook and remain self dependent.
The access to the city is from these two metro stations which are almost 50 steps from the hotel and in 5 mins you can be in La Ramblas ... I would recommend this place for group travellers, backpackers and all.

Recently visited here with my family and I cannot recommend this hotel enough! It was in a lovely part of Barcelona, just outside of the centre (approx 5/6 mins by train, which was a 5ish min walk from the hotel). Such lovely restaurants nearby as well, which we took great pleasure in exploring. The breakfast as fantastic! Brought to your door every morning with a warm, friendly smile; and very generous helpings of food! The staff couldn't have been more pleasant, anything we needed they would happily oblige. I honestly cannot rate this hotel enough, if there was a 6 star option, I would have ticked it!

Nothing luxury, but very comfortable and quite. Large apartment, ideal for families, outside the centre, but tube station quite close and only 5 stops for reaching the core of the city. Impossible to park a car in the area (as nearly every where in Barcelona), but the Hotel has a parking.

The Aparthotel Bertran has all the advantages of good hotel service plus the convenience of an apartment rental with 24-hour reception service, roof-top terrace with pool and rooms with plenty of space for relaxing in front of the TV or eating around the table. The hotel is in a quiet area near to the Metro station with a mini-mart almost next door with plenty of fresh fruit and local vegetables , a friendly pharmacy a couple of doors down and many patisseries in the next block as well as a pizzaria nearby. The apartment was well-equipped for self-catering and it was no trouble to request a coffee-making machine. The hotel staff were very helpful and the cleaners friendly. This is a quiet area, so it makes for a relaxing holiday. The room where we stayed didn't have a balcony, but it had everything we wanted in terms of space, wifi and air-con. Probably not the place to be if you want to be in the centre of town, but since this is only a few minutes away by metro, you can experience the buzz of the nightlife and then travel home for a restful sleep and then a swim after breakfast. We will definitely be back.

Well located apartment in a quiet area on the edge of the city, had no problems getting in and out of the City on the Metro from the nearby station Tibidabo. Pleasant, helpful night reception man gave us lots of useful info when we checked in around midnight, only had time for two nights but will return sometime in future

Just spent five nights in this hotel with boyfriend; the hotel is located away from the tourist area of Barcelonia in a quiet residential area. Very good transport links into the city - maximum of 20 minutes to the centre of Barcelonia. If using the L3 to Vallcarca, (as mentioned in other reviews make sure you exit from the correct exit) - take the exit with the escalators to the higher exit. We recommend when travelling with luggage to travel to/ from Av. Tibidabo. Plenty of options to purchase food for meals, we picked up some excellent fish from La Doroda just higher up the hill that the mentioned exit from Vallcarca metro is on.

The ApartHotel - we found the staff to be very friendly with a good grasp of English. The room was spacious, and very clean.

After staying for nearly a week in a much swankier hotel downtown, my partner and I moved to Aparthotel Bertran, as it was one of the few places we could find availability for our final two nights. It was pretty special. Spacious, yes. Stylish, no. It's located in a northern part of town, which is actually really easy to reach by the metro line that goes directly north from Placa de Catalunya (take it all the way up to the Tibidabo stop). The neighbourhood is interesting (hilly!), and much more residential that other parts of barcelona. It's proximity to Tibidabo and Parc Güell is a bonus too (we walked to both places... it was a long, sweaty hike to Tibidabo, but worth it, and Parc Güell is just amazing).

Now, for the hotel itself... It's more like a small apartment, so nice and spacious. But my god, the decor needs serious work. Dark, dismal, and slightly dank, the rooms are the antithesis of cheery and pleasant. The bathroom also looks like it hasn't had a makeover since the 70s, and the tub was especially offputting with lots of permanent black marks covering the bottom.

The one bright spark, though, was the rooftop pool. It's little more than the size of a standard hot tub, but the views from the roof are spectacular, and it's a really nice place to spend a few hours on a sunny afternoon.

So, not a terrible place, and stay there if you must, but I feel like this place could go from blah to wow with a serious makeover.

This hotel was just what we were looking for in every respect. In particular its location allowed my wife and I to follow our interests ( Park Guell, Tibidado and the Tourist bus are all virtually on the doorstep ) whilst our 18 year old son was able to make independent trips to the Ramblas, the Noucamp and so on. Do not be put off by the approach to the Hotel which is down a dusty side-street and don't let the absence of a balcony or sea-view upset you - you are here to experience the delight of the city from a functional base at a reasonable cost.

Two tips. This is not a good area for eating out but O'Carballo tapas bar two minutes from the hotel can be recommended. Also if travelling to or from the Airport by Underground aim for Valcarca Metro station (rather than the nearer Av Tibidado) and change at Passeig de Gracia.

We spent four nights at this unpretentious yet comfortable hotel in early December and would thoroughly recommend it.
We had no plans to visit Barcelona, but being unable to resist bargain flights, we booked this hotel via a link from this website through Venere.com. The exterior of the hotel does not really inspire a good first impression, but once inside the hotel any fears were laid to rest by the warmth of the welcome from the excellent reception staff. We were first allocated a twin room (at the quieter back of the hotel), and when we asked for an alternative room with a double bed, this was attended to instantly without any fuss or comeback.
Our room was at the front of the hotel which was fine despite some traffic noise. Our bed was some distance from the window, and the road outside (a peak hour rat run) became much quieter later on and we had no problem sleeping. In fact the bed was so comfy that the only problem was getting out of it. The chair and sofa were also very comfortable. There was no fussy trimmings here, but everything was very practical. Although short of a fully equipped apartment, there was enough here for all your City Break needs (warm through and serve your purchase at the local deli, or to prepare a picnic) and the good size fridge was invaluable. There was no safe in the room but the free use of a safe was available at a secure location within the hotel with a 10 Euro refundable deposit for the key (Inquire at reception). The only problem we encountered was the heating could be overbearing at times, and the only way to temper this was to use the air conditioning (during a December cold snap!).
For breakfast we fell in love with the wonderful crunchy bread and delicious patisseries from the numerous local bakeries. The cleaning staff here did a fantastic job, and the room was always pristine on our return. Only a tea towel that has seen better days preventing a perfect score for cleanliness.
The location of this property in a mainly residential area may not be suitable if you like being in the thick of the action, but we loved it here. Close to Av. Tibidabo and Valcarca metro stations, a T10 (10 journey transport ticket), at 7.20 Euros is a must to get around town. You can even use it for your Airport Transfer from the RENFE station to the hotel for one journey!. We enjoyed unwinding by browsing around the neighbourhood shops, after a day of sightseeing. There are at least 2 good supermarkets, coffee shops, bars, and cheap eat places including the Luciana pizza shop (lovely light based pizzas to eat at the bar or take away); and also the very nice, yet not too expensive Molina Restaurant (thanks previous reviewer). If you stay here take a stroll up to the Puxtet park for breathtaking views. All of these places are under a ten minute walk from the Hotel.
In conclusion, the Bertran offers very good accommodation at a good price in a stunning City, and please don’t be put off coming by the endless reports of pickpockets and other tourist related crimes. In our opinion these reports are disproportionate and unfair, and the good people of Barcelona deserve better than constant suspicion, there is a reassuring large police presence all over the city. In all an excellent base for a short break in Barcelona.

Our family of four (including children ages 12 and 18) spent two nights here earlier this week. The price (130 euros with tax) is absolutely worth the five minute walk and 10 minute metro ride that other reviewers mention. The quiet neighborhood, A/C and steel shutters make for excellent sleeping. Plenty of supermarkets and other stores nearby. Great for families if everyone is willing to turn off the lights at the same time. Helpful, nice, English speaking desk clerks.

Can anyone tell me the trains/metro from the airport, & directions to the hotel. Thanks!

Take train from Airport for four stops and exit at PASSEIG DE GRACIA. Change from railway line to Metro by going up to street level where you will find Metro entrance. Take Green line 3 toward TRINITAT NOVA and leave at VALCARCA station. Exit station by the right hand exit toward ROUTE DE ARGENTINA [ you should exit adjacent to the terrace of a bar/café.] Go uphill past the junction of the bridge/viaduct till the next traffic lights which you can see ahead of you. Turn left at these traffic lights [Vitages sign on wall] onto MARIE de DEU del CARMEL which leads onto Carrer BERTRAN, Hotel is on left. SUGGEST YOU PURCHASE A 10 TRAIN JOURNEY TICKET FROM VENDING MACHINE AT AIRPORT RAIL STATION.
