Our visit for nine days at the end of September was very enjoyable. All staff is very friendly. The apartment with kitchen and bathroom is simple but large, clean and functional with an excellent shower and a balcony. The pool on the rooftop is an additional good feature. There is a shop next door (lots more nearby) and the metro station at Tibidabo just around the corner. The trains arrive every couple of minutes. Roomservice, wifi and a 24 h reception are available. All in all very good value for money.

Very clean. Staff is super friendly and helpful, they booked flamenco shows for us, ordered us taxis, ...
Pool is small but clean, its also nice to lie by the pool. Location is out of the center but easily reachable by metro. I would recommend using Vallcarca metro station as the trains are more frequent and it has better connections than Tibidabo, its about a 6 minute walk. Tibidabo is about 4 minutes walking.
We stayed in the hotel in July.. i would definitely stay here again.

Brilliant, 'home from home feel' hotel. I was travelling alone and very spacious room.
Had my own comfortable living quarter, dining area, kitchen, sleeping quarter and en-suite bathroom.
I like this type of 'open plan' layout.
The hotel is located on a hillside incline , in I gather, a pretty quiet and safe neighbourhood.
I took the Green Metro line 3 from Placa de Catalunya, centre of city, in direction of Canyelles terminus. journey time not quite 10 minutes, direct, to Varacara stop, so very convenient link to city hub !
From here its bit of an uphill walk, to Bertran hotel, but not unreasonable. I'd say a good 5 min walk.
The hotel itself, has a small roof-top pool, but not big enough to swim really. The hotels photo is deceiving, wide angled.
pool was nice to cool down in and had view to Tibidabo mountain top.
I liked idea of breakfast served to your room every morning and the continental type was sufficient for me.
No real apparant gripes about this accommodation, it was by comparison, extremely good valve in my travel book.
Hotel staff were helpfull, cheery sort of folks.
The accommodation is near parc Guell and I highly recommend walking over to explore at leisure.
Its not too far and ask reception for direction to escalator ascending hill up to park !
I really enjoyed visiting Barcelona and also highly recommend taking the unmistakeable, sightseeing open-topped bus.
I travelled all 3 routes and probably red route may prove more favourable to some.
I definately would return to Bertran if visiting again. I enjoyed my travel experience.

We stayed at this "aparthotel" for 2 nights last weekend. It was great! The room was sizable, and the kitchen area included 2 burners (no oven), a fridge with freezer, utensils, flatware, and a double sink (no microwave). There was also a small living room area with a couch, chair and table with TV. The bedroom area had 2 twin beds pushed together and a nice long closet with mirrors and extra blankets. The gentleman at the front desk was so nice and helpful. Assisted us with directions many times. The only downside to this hotel was the smell of stale smoke in the room. It could be that this room had been closed up for awhile, but it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. In Spain, though, everyone smokes, so I suppose it might be common. ??? Also, I found a great rate on a discount website. When I called, the hotel matched the rate. They do charge 12 euros/night to park in their very small garage, but we had heard stories about cars disappearing in Barca, so we were fine with that. It was safe there. We didn't take it out the whole time we were there. All in all, a great find, especially with a 2-year-old who needs milk, juice, etc.

The hotel decided to charge us in our currency (Canadian dollars) but with their own conversion rate, much higher than either the bank's or the credit card's. That turned out to be 20$ more than what we're supposed to pay for our stay. Booking.com posted that the hotel would charge us in their own currency, but Aparthotel Bertran didn't do so, to their advantage. We are going to Barcelona in a week, but already I don't appreciate the practice of this hotel.

My visit was for three days, partly business and then a buddy flew in to join for a couple of nights. Alternative at that price would be Ibis, which is always very functional but this was WAY more spacious.

It is an older building, rather 70's in feel but has been well kept up. E.g. the furniture is simple and not necessarily what you would put in your home, but it is absolutely fine for temporary accommodation.

Parking is indoors and secured by garage door- which I loved.

Aircon in room was absolutely perfect and was quiet. (It was 38 degrees outside!).

Neighbourhood quiet with good cafes and deli type businesses nearby, so very easy to pick up provisions.

Rooftop pool looks normal sized in the photos but actually it is really quite small, but perfect for a cool off and if you have kids they would be fine with it- just not really big enough for swimming lengths for exercise.

All in all this was, and especially considering price, superb value for money and for the money I saved on accommodation enjoyed splashing out on nights out. It is about 10 Euros taxi into the centre but you could take a tram for much less.

Must-go restaurant (pricey but fabulous and you should book) is Boca Chica! Will leave separate review for there - absolutely brilliant- they even have a DJ in the communal toilets and a girl selling Gin and Tonics!!

we stayed here for 4 nights. The room was large but tired, the kitchen was very poorly equipped and the fridge interior plastic was broken and had no ice tray. There was a really pokey terrace overlooked by lots of other rooms and with no view whatsoever. The bathroom was clean but very tired once again.
The worst aspect was that it seemed that everyones plumbing ran through the room with no sound insulation at all. The noise stopped me from sleeping until the other rooms went to sleep and woke me up with the first flush of the day! It was really bad--
On the plus side the location was quite good and felt safe with a good range of shops and bars nearby.
I don't think I could recommend anyone else to stay here as they might end up in a tired and noisy room like us. There may be better rooms in the hotel but I would not take the risk

I spent 4 days in Barcelona and stayed 4 nights in this hotel with wife and 8month old daughter. I liked this hotel and service is very quick and excellent.

One causion is...when you take metro to Valgarga, you should be careful while you com out of the station. We came out at other end and missed the route to the hotel. Check with reception for the correct route.

4 nights spent in Hotel Bertran - very nice big rooms with very clean facilities, more than enough room for 2 adults and a toddler, Cot supplied at no extra cost. food ordered in (10 euro minimum) from menus supplied and also good local food options 5 min walk away.

Transport options as others have noted are excellent, TMB Train at Av Tibidabo (this is not a metro station, more a local rail stop) is quick for access to Pl catalunya. Vallcarca is not far either and although has a hill up on way back is not at all taxing. Also there is Tramvia Blau for access to Mt.tibidabo (extra charge on top if not using barcelona card) and the Sightseeing bus stops at Av tibidabo so basically anywhere you want to get to you can pretty easily.

next time we go to barcelona, we would use the hotel again

Fantastic place to stay!! Reasonable, clean, safe and has a kitchenette! Out of Barcelona (but only ten minutes on the metro) it is an a nice local neighbourhood and a welcome break from the busy downtown. Great deli and bakery just around the corner and a handy little shop right next door. Only a 15 minute walk from Park Guell (if you go between 0500-0800 in the morning it is free and it there is nobody there). In the other direction, a two minute walk toward Av. Tibidabo (you can also get into town from here on the train that goes from here) brings you to the Blue Tram which takes you up to the Funicular which goes to the top of Tibidabo (great views all over Barcelona) - but rather than pay for that expensive journey just jump on the bus which goes to exactly the same place and costs half the price. I would go back to Barcelona in a heartbeat....and would definitely stay at Aparthotel Bertran!

Take train from Airport for four stops and exit at PASSEIG DE GRACIA. Change from railway line to Metro by going up to street level where you will find Metro entrance. Take Green line 3 toward TRINITAT NOVA and leave at VALCARCA station. Exit station by the right hand exit toward ROUTE DE ARGENTINA [ you should exit adjacent to the terrace of a bar/café.] Go uphill past the junction of the bridge/viaduct till the next traffic lights which you can see ahead of you. Turn left at these traffic lights [Vitages sign on wall] onto MARIE de DEU del CARMEL which leads onto Carrer BERTRAN, Hotel is on left. SUGGEST YOU PURCHASE A 10 TRAIN JOURNEY TICKET FROM VENDING MACHINE AT AIRPORT RAIL STATION.
