We took one last (maybe) beach trip last week. The weather was perfect so we drove down for three days. We chose the Ocean Reef as our hotel since we had stayed there before and liked it and were familiar with it. We arrived around 10:00 and since check-in wasn’t until 4:00, we got our wrist bands and hung out at the pool until we were called.

I love the layout of the pool at Ocean Reef. It’s a nice size and chairs are placed around it almost in a circle. Although, because of Covid they placed chairs around the pool spaced in twos for social distancing, chairs were moved throughout the day and ended up not really socially distanced.

There is also a “water park” area for kids, a lazy river, a smaller pool at the lazy river and three or four hot tubs.

There is a bar right at the pool that can take orders at a window or you can go inside. You are able to order sandwiches or hamburgers, as well. It’s very handy and the food is pretty good. I swear my margarita didn’t have any alcohol, even though I watched the bartender pour it in the glass. I didn’t feel anything from it and I always feel something very quickly if there’s anything to it!

We had coupons for free breakfast for each day we stayed. Because of Covid, the tables are marked off and the buffet is served to you. The food is pretty good, but I did miss the waffle maker.

We were in Room 1113 and it’s right at the elevators when you step out. It had two queen beds, which were comfortable, as well as the pillows. The furniture is a little dated and the room is showing some wear and tear as well, but it was clean and the location was perfect. Be sure you ask for a room on a floor that doesn’t have the wall blocking your view of the ocean from your balcony. We learned this from our previous stay there.

They do have a game room for kids, but I would not leave a young child or preteen there by themselves. I was walking around taking pictures and walked in an open door from the side street. I don’t mean open as unlocked, it was wide open… Anyone could walk right in and snatch your kid! That evening, we walked in off the same side street through another door to that room that we thought would be locked, but wasn’t. That is not only unsafe, it is actually dangerous, and the hotel should think about keeping those doors locked so no one can come in off the street since this is geared for kids.

Parking is extremely tight and limited at the hotel, but there is overflow parking across the street, but still hard to find a place if you go out in the evening. You can park on the side streets at the meters and if you have a handicap tag, you can park for free at any meter. This is true at every meter in the city of Myrtle Beach.

We enjoyed our stay there, and will probably stay there again.

Stayed at Ocean Reef to be close to my dad who is in hospice in a assisted living nearby. Decided to get a ocean front room to destress in evenings! When we arrived it was chaotic in the parking lot, limited on space and busier than I thought it would be since it was after Labor Day, September 10th. Dani at front desk was very nice, checked in. I was very disappointed when I got to the room, the room was not cleaned like there was a pandemic, dust and dirt were on dresser draws, stains on chairs . My daughter took Clorox cleaning wipes to everything and when she cleaned the handle to the sliding glass door to the balcony it came out dirty black! I was really shocked because of all the Covid cleaning that SHOULD be going on, that showed that it was never cleaned! I did go down to the front desk and showed the picture of the rag, Dani was even shocked! She said we could have someone come in and do a deep cleaning the next day, which was nice to offer but I decided we cleaned it from top to bottom and I didn’t want anyone else in our room now that we disinfected it! I mentioned about the chairs but nothing came of it, we ended up putting bathroom bath towels on them to sit on it! My family has followed all protocols during this pandemic, so far so good, but I’m amazed at the non mask wearing of some staff & guest. We had to be so careful because we were visiting a assisted living facility. The view we had was beautiful!
The elevators were slow and actually they need more! Too many people were there, I felt, I don’t know if South Carolina has the half capacity rule like Connecticut but it was very busy! Parking lots were always full! They did have a hot breakfast which was very good and the staff in breakfast buffet were wonderful! Nice pool, and nice seating areas. The ocean front room we had definitely needs updating, furniture was old and dirty! The bathroom was decent, except under sink, which you saw when sitting on toilet, very, very dirty pipes! Ugh! Overall it was okay, I’m just glad I got to see my dad!

The hotel room was clean, but the customer service was terrible. We will not be returning. Over the holiday weekend I traveled with my family (total of 4 adults and a toddler) to Myrtle Beach, SC to stay at the Ocean Reef Resort. When I booked the hotel, I specifically booked a 3 bedroom condo. When we arrived on Saturday, the front desk told me that they overbooked the rooms and that all they could do was give us two standard rooms, which is not what I paid for. They had told us that they could move us first thing in the morning to a 3 bedroom condo and that they would keep my name on both of the standard rooms until our things could be moved. On Saturday morning, the front desk person told us that we could not keep our things in the rooms while we wait for a condo to be cleaned and that we could only do that if we were planning to spend the day waiting in the hotel room. After explaining to them that we have a toddler who has a nap time, and my wife has Celiac Disease and we booked here so that we could have a kitchen to cook, they allowed for us to move everything from both rooms into one room until the condo was cleaned and ready for us to move into. They said they would call us as soon as a condo was ready. We left for a few hours and returned back at 1:00 for our daughter to take a nap. When we called at 12:30 (because they never called us), they told us the condo would be ready in 20 minutes for us to move into, but when we came at 1:00, they said it would be another hour and that we could take our daughter to nap and that they would not force us to move rooms for a few hours so she could finish her nap. Well… right after we finally got her to sleep (around 2), they called and woke her up and told us that they could not hold the room for very long and we had to switch rooms immediately.
It is obvious that this hotel does not hold high standards for communication and service.

My husband and I spent 7 wonderful days at your resort. We had a King size ocean front room, that had a stove, mini refrigerator, microwave, pullout sofa, and small table. We were in room 1701 which is the very top floor of the resort, and away from the elevator. I ask for a high floor, and they did accommodate. The room was very clean. We never opened any of the cabinets or drawers, so I could not tell you what was in there. We don't go on vacation to cook anyway. We had an ice machine right outside our door, and rooftop access. The room was a little dated, as the carpet had some dirty spots, and was rolled in some places, the pull out sofa was not very comfortable to sit on, and a spring would pop when you got up, and we didn't need the pull out bed. The bathroom could use some TLC, because there was some broken tiles, and the caulking in the bathtub could stand to be replaced. Housekeeping was very friendly, and we only needed them to change the garbage, and swap out towels, and washcloths, because we made our own beds. Check in was a headache. We arrived early around 1pm paid our balance, and went to get lunch down the streetat the Rock away grill. The guy behind the counter told me we would receive a phone call when our room was ready. At 3:45 I walked to the desk, and was told I still had 15 minutes, and to wait for my phone call. At 4pm the check in line was out the door, so I stood in line, because, my gosh our room has to be ready by now. While in line the fire department comes, because one of the only two elevators is stuck. By the time we got our room key it was around 5:30, and with only one elevator working it was almost 6pm before we got to our room. (I still have not received a phone call saying my room was ready.) I wasn't about to let that ruin our vacation, because we had drove 6 hours to get here. I got a text from someone named Ivey asking if we needed anything, as far as wifi, and stuff like that. One of my only complaints was the family in room 1703 were smoking marijuana all day and night on their balcony, so our ocean balcony breezes would likely make me fail a drug test, and although very pretty, why in the world were people shooting fireworks every night at 2am? We never ate at the resort, but we did you to the lounge at night, and if you haven't had a dirty banana, you haven't lived. We will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks for a great vacation, and Congratulations on winning the 2020 myrtle beach resort award!

Hotel is right on the ocean, and our rooms (3) all looked out right out on the beach.

Check-in for three rooms took forever, apparently through no fault of the single employee manning the front desk. The three rooms we got were all owned by different entities, which meant that the same forms/information had to be first filled out on paper forms in triplicate (one for each room) by me, and then entered into the computer in triplicate by the employee. This REALLY needs to be upgraded to a better system. It shouldn’t take half an hour to check in. Employee was personable, knowledgeable, and trilingual (working on ASL to be quadrilingual, too). Lots of angry guests were in line behind me before my check-in was finally completed.

Rooms were basic and dated, with some issues in each of them. The main negative is that, even though this is a non-smoking hotel, people ignore that and generally smoke on their balconies. However, one of our rooms had prior tenants who decided that the room was where they would smoke. It reeked of cigarette smoke so badly that it was unbelievable that anyone would think it was in acceptable condition for future tenants. They smoked so much in there that they wrapped the smoke detector in plastic and tied it on with dental floss (see the picture). Housekeeping either didn’t notice or care since it was still there when we walked in. We tried to switch to a different room, but were told that the hotel was 100% booked and there were no vacant rooms to move to. Air freshening spray was offered instead. Sometime the next day housekeeping did come and spray, but keeping the balcony doors open for several hours the first night helped more than anything.

Other issues we had was a toaster in one of the rooms not working and a microwave in a different room also not working. Hotel was informed of these problems as well and brought up a brand new toaster, but never did anything about the microwave.

In spite of all of the problems, I would say that overall our stay here was a positive one. This is because of the wonderful time that was had by all at the hotel water park and the beach, which was why we picked this hotel in the first place. What was especially nice is the fact that the water park was in the shade pretty much the entire day, which significantly increased the amount of time we spent there in comparison to the beach.

Also entertaining were the fireworks that various people were setting off on the beach. It usually lasted until fairly late in the night, but generally stopped around 11pm. We were able to watch those from our balconies in addition to seeing a pod of dolphins make their way up the coast from our balconies, as well.

Would I stay here again? Maybe… The price would have to be right and I would have to be going with people who would enjoy the water park.

I was very pleased with the last minute accomodations for 5 nights that I was able to book at Ocean Reef for July 4th Celebration! The oceanfront room was very clean, comfortable, and I felt very safe traveling by myself. Since all outside entrances led to inside the resort, there were no "wet" floors from the pool area, no sand from the beach area, there were continuous people cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, and keeping the resort nice and fresh! And the housekeeping staff were accommodating when speaking with them when I needed more towels, ice, etc. - I recommend Tonya and Sheila who were on the 14th floor with me . I will definitely stay again soon!

Lovely location, beach is beautiful. Pools and hot tubs are great. Bar/restaurant staff were friendly and fun. Some of the front desk staff seemed irritable- perhaps just stressed? The room cleanliness was lacking. We found a used razor in our shower and some of the pans in our efficiency were dirty, with cooked food on them. Disappointed in the cleanliness of the rooms. Covid or no covid, pans should not have cooked food on them and bathrooms should be razor free. Not impressed with that. Not sure I would recommend or visit again. Too expensive for unclean rooms and poor service. We also had to stop at the desk for towels and toilet paper, after we were told housekeeping would deliver those needs to our room.

Spinclassdoctor, Thank You for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay with us at the Ocean Reef Resort. We are sorry to read you were not happy with your stay. You are right, rooms should not have dirty pots and pans or razors in the shower. We recently hired a new executive housekeeper and her top priority is revamping the housekeeping department and bringing the cleanliness protocols up to the higher standards that the Ocean Reef used to hold. We hope you will reconsider us in the future if you travel to Myrtle Beach again. Sincerely, Aladin Glaoui, General Manager

I have a mixed review for this condo/hotel
Pros - large condos, comfortable beds, good pool area has a lazy river and nice outdoor pools, right on the beach, free movie rentals. The hotel also has a restaurant, and gift shop, free parking and wifi. Affordable. Breakfast staff were very nice. Safes in room
Cons- condos are dated, the pictures of the balconies is very deceiving you could only fit one person on the balcony off the master on the north tower, common areas could be cleaner. The restaurant only offered buffet breakfast which was a large selection with an omelette station but too expensive for someone who just wants toast and coffee it was all or nothing. There was dirty standing water in the dishwasher. The gift shop was rarely open and most of the front desk staff was uninterested and very slow. The free gift was a joke and never actually receive even after 3 days of trying. and when I checked out they charged my credit card for unauthorized charges that made no sense check your bill on check out. They didn’t want to provide mine I’m glad I did still haven’t confirmed they were reversed with my card company.

My husband and I visited the Ocean Reef Resort from 9/18-9/21 for a family wedding. We stayed at this resort because most of our family was staying there as well. Upon check in we were told that we would be notified when our room was ready. Several other people in our group received their notification but we did not. I received messages from "Ivy" at the front desk to ask if she could help but she never responded to my messages. I went to the front desk and our room was ready although we were never notified.
The hotel itself was not very clean and had a musty smell. The pool area was nice but the water itself was dirty. Our room was also not in the greatest shape and the lock on the patio door was broken. We were told that due to Covid we could not have daily housekeeping although other people in our party did have it.
My cousin, the mother of the bride, had her room cancelled prior to her arrival and was not informed of this until check in. She was supposed to have a room to accommodate up to 8 people and was given a room for 2. The day after her arrival she was told to leave her bags outside her room and she would be given a larger room. This did not happen. That room was also cancelled. She was told she would be given a room credit of $200 and upon check out she was told it was only $150. After arriving home, not only was this credit not applied but she was charged more.
Our party had about 15 rooms booked and we were not given a discount.
We had a wonderful time in Myrtle Beach itself but would never return to the Ocean Reef. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one is because the staff in the gift shop and at the poolside restaurant were great.
