Family vacation for my mother's 50th birthday. The entertainment is very lively and full of energy. There are a lot of activities all around the hotel, from Spanish lessons to scuba diving and pool side challenges.

The staff are really friendly and are always interacting with the guests. 911 and spaghetti are always making everyone feel involved with the hotel activities and put smiles on their faces.

Core zone and Sports bar are great places to go for video games, karaoke and drinks. Eliza and Lucia are there to provide fun and entertainment all day and through into the evening.

This a lovely hotel. The beach and hotel grounds are stunning. The sea is quite rough here so not flat calm for snorkelling. Lots of great wildlife including ospreys diving into the ocean for fish. The hotel team do a great job cleaning the seaweed up regularly. It is windy and not ideal for snorkelling in the sea.
Rooms are a bit tired but clean and huge! New water park is a great addition. Restaurants are generally good. Food is such a subjective thing - in my opinion it was very good, not exceptional, not terrible. Egg station every morning is fab - your own omelette made with the ingredients you choose. I liked that you just turn up and put your name down for the a la cartes. We never waited longer than 45 mins and the hotel was very busy. We did make a reservation for the hibachi table and that was great fun.
Vast majority of staff are lovely, always saying “ola” and wanting to ensure you are having a good holiday.
Only a few niggles - there is not much outside space at the restaurants and when we were there they reserved a huge table at the buffet for one group of people - not fair on the other guests. The house wine isn’t great and to buy other bottles is expensive. Some of the bars struggled to find plastic glasses of the right size/shape when busy. Usual sunbed wars when the hotel is busy and the hotel does not enforce the “no reserving sunbeds” policy.
I would bring eye mask and earplugs as can be noisy in the corridors and we had a flashing green light over the bed in the ceiling that was a bit irritating in the dark.

We meet 3 Honeymoon couples and all were bitterly disappointed with the hotel
COUPLE 1, James and Partner had been given a FREE beach dining experience when they complained that she had food poisoning but even this special meal was cold. They were made to sign an agreement to say complaint satisfied.
PS I spent a day or two in the room ill with diarrhoea(as did other guests). Channel 20 TNT was a life-saver, had films on all day( watched all 3 lord of the rings films).

COUPLE 2. Chris and Anna had multiple complaints so were given a new room and persuaded to join the Preferred club for £700. They felt robbed they told us.
COUPLE 3. James and Marianna, had the worst experience, they arrived to a room were the toilet was broken, the room had paint splashed around it and bath/spa didn’t work. They asked for a kettle and baby bath but were told they weren’t allowed these yet we were given them for our baby (so we gave them ours when we left). They baby had a cough so wanted that checked out but ending up paying a fortune for a simple consultation. On day 2 they had a formal meeting with manager as they very unhappy. BY chance just before the meeting, an entertainer approached Marianna and asked her for a “5 star trip advisor review naming him” and his manager would give him 2 days off if she did. TOTAL JOKE – LOOK OUT FOR THEIR REVIEW!!
We weren’t on honeymoon but were also disappointed the entertainment being our biggest complaint.
There is NO Archery, NO rifle shooting, NO boules, NO bingo, NO pool/billiards, NO table tennis (competitions), NO tennis!! They also advertise SCUBA diving lessons in the pool but I didn’t see this in 11 days.
Some of the male entertainers strut around like gangsters and have stupid names – COCA COLA, 911 and MINI COOPER were all not friendly and walked around like they owned the place. They don’t try n learn your name or get you involved in games, so the few things that they advertise are often not on!!! Often at 12 noon they serve Paella or tacos(which is nice) BUT nobody announces this and there are no clocks so few people know or go
The night programme was pathetic bar the beach party which was on for 1 hour but good fun. Other nights:- a Madonna act didn’t know the words, a dodgy magic show and a terrible silent disco were they just give you headphones with music and that’s it
THE ONLY THING the entertainers are enthusiastic about is asking you for 5 STAR REVIEWS
Other things WORLD CAFÉ Food is random and has little for children or adults some days
Rooms are really outdated too and smell so they give you of incense sticks. I had to complain on day 3 as our room had not been cleaned or clean towels provided. Water cut-off one day and electrics on another
NOT A 5 STAR TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW HOTEL – I PROMISE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say this is a nice place. Not terrible, but not wonderful either—it rates a 3.5 for tropical beach vacations. My review reflects my personal experience that is varied from the local Motel 6, to a suite at the Ritz Hotel in Paris and everything in between across four continents.
The property is well kept, just about everything works as advertised. There appeared to be adequate staff to manage the occupancy over Christmas. We stayed in a Preferred status in two, double rooms and were assigned a butler. He appeared to do what he could always to accommodate our requests, but there were some requests that were left wanting. He compensated by comp’ing extra amenities. I believe there are only four suites on the property. The overall attitude of the staff was good—some were excellent, while some appeared as though they couldn’t care less about providing good service. The room size was average, the bath/shower were ample, but the water temp was not consistent, swinging from a little too hot to a little too cold every 30 seconds. The bed was VERY firm. Delightfully, there was a Nespresso machine in the room and the maids did a turn down service every evening while we went to dinner, refreshing the towels, etc. I’m no gourmet, but I found the quality of the food very good in terms of locally available selections; things were fresh, there were many choices, and the preparation was done well. It was relatively easy to eat where and when we wanted. There is a dress code for one of the restaurants that our teenagers weren’t prepared for (pants/non-tennis shoes) so we never ate there.
We felt very safe and comfortable during our stay enough that our 9 year old was allowed to play at the pool, off with other kids she met while we remained at the beach. There were lifeguards present and they appeared diligent. Our nine year old enjoyed the kids club for a few hours on two occasions. The staff there appeared to take their responsibility seriously and they spoke English perfectly. They provide cell phones you keep with you, associated with your child when you leave a child there in case of emergency. The water sports vender offered several activities that were easy to access and run well. I took the teenagers SCUBA diving after a personal 1/2hr pool-course and it was executed safe and well (I have PADI open water card). There are two-story cabanas on the beach for an extra charge that are quite nice, offering a personal server that can bring whatever food and drink you please from any of the restaurants at the resort. There is a medical clinic staffed 24hrs with a doctor (or maybe NP?) that speaks English very well on site. There is an adequate gym facility and the spa services were quite nice, a bit pricey, but nice.
The reviews I read before going raised my expectations too high for me to be dazzled as were some reviewers by the experience, but it’s a nice place and we had a nice vacation. We were a family of five, coming from the west coast, staying in two rooms, flying first class, for seven nights, and the cost for the package on Expedia was about 15k. Transfers, water sports, spa services, and beach cabanas were extra (there are complimentary paddle boards, kayaks, and small catamarans that are included/SCUBA, parasailing, riding the banana pulled behind a boat are extra).
All things considered, we will not return again.

Just returned from 2 great weeks at Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana. Im writing this review to try and stay awake from jet lag! The hotel is set against the islands shoreline offering wonderful sandy beaches. There are ample sun loungers half shaded by palm trees and half by umbrellas. The Atlantic winds offer a much appreciated cooling breeze even on the hottest days. Caesar who runs the SeaPro watersports hut on the beach is a great guy and can help you organise parasailing, canoes, diving etc. Plenty of activities for the kids and for adults. There is loud music from the main pool behind the beach and that pools is where the drinkers tend to hang out, though all good natured fun is being had. Maybe I'm too middle aged these days but I prefer less loud music and more listening to the wonders of mother nature...the crashing of waves on the beach. The beach staff are superb. Attentive but not overtly fussy. Our hotel room was substituted on the 3rd day due to damp without any fuss and being a family room it was a good size and kept immaculate by the housemaids. Evening entertainment was very good. Lots of shows and the adults can also wonder into the adjourning Secrets Hotel - adults only if they fancy it. Our children loved the games rooms in the evenings and the hotel had a nice mix of all generations giving it a family feel. The clientele are mainly Americans, British and South American guests. I have a gluten intolerance and though I tried the buffet on the first day unfortunately I suffered some cross contamination. Once I informed concierge they were superb. Emely booked a restaurant each night for us via WhatsApp ensuring the booking highlighting my food allergy which took the stress out of eating. The Maitre D' in each restaurant were superb and ensured that whatever I wanted was brought to me fresh from the kitchen so there was no chance of gluten cross contamination. A very big thank you to Felix and Altragracia - both amazing Maitre D's who understood gluten intolerance and ensured each meal for breakfast , lunch and dinner for me was gluten free despite them being so busy during service. The Italian Chef Christopher who is relatively new was superb as well, taking time out to discuss my gluten issues and ensure I ate well. The front desk staff could maybe be a bit more cheery - very efficient but a smile would help! The hotel has beautiful lush green surroundings which are tendered by dedicated grounds staff. What really makes this hotel however are the friendly and dedicated staff who are always happy to help and remain cheerful despite working long hours. Take some US dollars to tip them, they don't expect it but deserve every penny. It was nice to see the hotel also entertain the staffs kids one afternoon with a VR experience - look after your staff well. As for excursions - The pirate ship excursion is interesting - though predominately spoken in Spanish and probably best for younger children - under 10s. The snorkelling on that trip is immense. Fantastic fun. The stingrays and sharks experience were OK - shame we weren't allowed to take photos. The separate boat trip also for snorkelling was again great but the promised tranquil shallow water lagoon was full of party boats playing loud music and drunk youngsters having a wail of a time which scared all sea-life away! Would I recommend the hotel to others - absolutely, get out there and enjoy it.
