I am #StantecProud to be a woman in engineering because it allows me to continuously learn and grow in pursuit of protecting public health. If you would have told the engineering student in the photo below that this internship in 2008 would be the start of my water career, I probably would have made some wise-crack remark because it was the great recession and I was grateful to have an internship. However, what keeps me here is the fact that 3.5 billion people lack access to safely managed sanitation and 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water globally (UN Statistics for Sustainable Development Goals as of 2022). We have a lot of work to do. I have the privilege of being part of the solution, and that is something to be proud of. P.S. The photo was taken at a power plant and not a water facility. Getting plans on the ground is critical to making an impact. All the best plans are nothing without execution. I have worked through many avenues in my career: Push Button Projects, Design Build, Maintenance Contracts, working with local partners, and more! There are many ways to execute, what's important is that we do! Understand that there is opportunity cost by not implementing sooner. There is a cost to delayed implementation, and when we are talking about safety and community health, that cost can be high. Let's work to get these projects built and keep that end goal in mind as we execute!

A few weeks ago, some of our Engineering Management Institute team members attended the AEC HR Summit in Austin. ☀️ We arrived a few days early and spent some time together. In a world of remote work, I can't emphasize enough the importance of getting people on your team together in person to build relationships. At EMI, we have very simple values: Give. Guide. Grow. 🌱 We give our all, guide each other, and grow together. If you're not focused on building a strong company culture, you should be. It's likely the reason people want to join and stay with your organization long-term. Remember, investing in your team's relationships and culture pays dividends in the long run. Attention LinkedIn Network: I'm concerned about the lack of construction progress on the L.A. Union Station modernization that's supposed to be done by the Olympics. It has been over two years since I was last at L.A. Union Station, so if there has been some construction progress, please let me know. The problem is that since 2012 I have heard a lot of hype about the modernization of the station. As of January 2022, I've seen no progress. This is problematic because the Olympics are only four years away, and all of these transportation improvements (i.e. 28 transit projects by the 2028 Summer Olympics) rely on a modernized station at its core. #railroading #highspeedrail #civilengineering #transportationplanning #trafficengineering

Another insightful and successful annual conference, APMP! In my opinion, the best of the three I have attended thus far. A few high-level takeaways for me: 1. The competitive landscape across AI integration providers is quite impressive! If you don't have plans to leverage AI in some capacity, you likely will fall behind. 2. I personally welcome the growing list of continuing education opportunities and look forward to pursuing more. Excited for the Leadership Academy offering. I also applaud those who became Foundation-level certified this week, including two of my teammates. 3. Plenty of great agenda topics this year for the breakout sessions which made for "difficult" decisions on which ones to attend. Having multiple team members attend the conference is optimal to divide and conquer. 4. The Marriott New Orleans was an excellent venue. Great location, food, entertainment. The people of New Orleans were very friendly and welcoming. Did anyone else catch the knife-juggler/comedian on Bourbon? 5. Our local chapter, APMP - Greater Midwest Chapter (GMC) is the absolute best. It's a Midwest thing ;) 6. The Gators and Guns airboat swamp excursion sounded intriguing, no? 7. AI is going to replace all proposal management teams within 3-5 years. Kidding of course (but see takeaway number 1). Connect with me if we haven't already.
