After hundreds of hours of study and months of stress and anxiety, I am extremely thrilled and proud to announce that I have successfully passed both vertical and lateral part of the Structural Engineering exam! It has been a tough journey and I really appreciate the help and support from my family, friends, and colleagues. History was one of my favorite subject from primary to high school. Getting to university, despite selecting a course in the sciences, I was happy to learn that history was one of the topics we will cover in our units. It was really fascinating learning the history of Civil Engineering. This has been summarized below: Modern Civil Engineering has its roots in the early 18th century during the Industrial Revolution. As urbanization and industrialization accelerated, there emerged a growing need for skilled professionals to design and construct infrastructure to support the rapidly changing society. The emergence of new materials like iron and steel, as well as advancements in mathematics and mechanics, played a pivotal role in the evolution of Civil Engineering. Pioneers such as John Smeaton, considered the first "civil engineer," and Thomas Telford, with his innovative bridge designs, laid the foundation for the profession. With the establishment of engineering schools and societies in the 19th century, Civil Engineering transformed into a distinct and specialized discipline, leading to the diverse and essential field it is today, shaping the world's infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of countless communities worldwide. #engineering #civilengineeringdesign #history

As we entered 2024, I took a day to retrospectively examine my journey in Civil Engineering. The seamless integration of my contributions across diverse industries and my academic pursuits has been profoundly transformative. My engagement ranged from intricate research projects and the exploration of theoretical foundations to the translation of acquired knowledge into impactful real-world solutions, consistently guided by the symbiosis between industry and research. I have been privileged to assume a pivotal role in spearheading industrial projects and pioneering groundbreaking research that significantly broadened the scope of civil engineering knowledge. The intricate interplay between my industrial experience and research endeavors has indelibly shaped my perspective on the field's evolution. This collaborative bridge, fostering continuous learning, has also afforded me the opportunity to mentor numerous engineers, instilling in them the essential connection between theory and practical application. Upon reflection, this journey has unfolded as a dynamic interplay, driving innovation, and I find myself invigorated by the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
