Welcome to Angama, inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’. Located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara is a remarkable owner-run safari lodge overlooking Kenya’s Maasai Mara, considered by many as the loveliest game reserve on the continent. Here guests will find a lodge where everything is as it ought to be: two intimate camps of just fifteen tented suites each, a private airfield and access to the Mara below, tailor-made safari days and a famously warm Kenyan welcome.

Angama Mara seems to offer a polarizing yet often luxurious experience, nestled in a serene setting with beautiful views that many guests enjoy. The hotel's amenities, including diverse dining options and unique activities like game drives, earn rave reviews, as does the attentive and warm service provided by the staff. Cleanliness is another high point, with travelers noting the spotless environment. However, some guests report concerns over room privacy, a lack of air conditioning, and the noise level, while opinions on value for money are split, with a few finding it overly expensive.

It is difficult to convey how beautiful this place is - perched on the edge of the escarpment so the rooms have sensational views over the plain. From one's own spacious terrace, from the comfortable bed and even from the shower, the Mara stretches out before one's eyes - unforgettable. Faultless modern and spacious accommodation in the rooms and in the dining areas. Visit the charming kitchen garden where much of the delicious food is grown. We stayed in the North Camp and had the warmest and friendliest four days of brilliant attention from the camp manager Ibrahim, our waiter Ketami , chef Evans and our room manager Violet. A huge thank you to our wonderful guide Tito who worked so hard to ensure that we saw an incredible range of animals in all kinds of situations. Wonderful, dedicated staff made us feel so welcome and happy at Agama that there was not a dry eye in our family party when we had to say a reluctant goodbye.

The grounds spectacular, the views marvelous, the animal viewing top notch, the staff friendly as can be, the location good, our safari guide was awesome and caring. The main lodge was very nice. The pool was ok. Now they not so good. The food, while plentiful was not to our liking. The housekeeping was fair. The toilet room had a floor to ceiling window, but I could clearly see the deck next door. So with no window blinds, when the light in the toilet room was on at night, that means the neighbors, when on their deck could clearly see me. Not comforting. How about putting up a window blind or extending the privacy wall? No lounge chairs on the room deck You had uncomfortable metal chairs that would burn you mid day if you sat down. The room was cold at night. This is a bucket list expensive place. How about no kids or a policy of no kids under 18 or 14? We had an obnoxious family next door. The kids were unruly and loud. You could hear them late at night, you could hear the dad yelling at them. You could hear them on the pathway to from the main lodge early and late in the day, and during the afternoon quiet time. Loud games, music, fighting, talking. It really ruined the experience. Their staff and niteguards had to hear them and chose to do nothing. I said something, and nothing changed. Lastly they have these oversize rodents that run on the roof of your tent. All night long. You hear the scurrying and noise. It woke us up, it kept us up. I mentioned it to the staff and they know about it! Well put up some chicken wire to block them I got was these rodents have kind of taken over and live there now. Spoke to other guests who had some problem. Well at $2000+ a nite you all need to fix this. Would not recommend this place nor go back. That said, heard they may be closing in 2024 for 2 months to do some renovations, hopefully they address these concerns.

Dear @abmilw Thank you so much for the time you have taken to share this feedback - both here and through your travel advisor, please rest assured it has been taken with the utmost gravity, as we hate to hear when our guests have left Angama Mara less than in love with their experience at the lodge, especially when it is delivered by a team of people who want nothing more than to delight their guests while they are on holiday. We have looked at the tented suite you were in to understand the privacy issue, and will be making a plan there (this is the first we have had this feedback in 9 years, as it has never been brought to our attention before). You will also be pleased to hear that we had a team of experts on site earlier this year addressing the love that the Rock Hyraxes (the rodent-like animal you refer to) have for the roofs of our tented suites. These will all be secured by the end of May. With regards to the family staying next door to you, your camp Manager Josephat did ask the family to respect that they are in a tented camp and that with only canvas between the tent walls sound carries much further on the Rift Valley, and for them to please be more understanding. Sadly, this plea went unheard or ignored. Josephat did do his very best to speak to the other guests. We are so sorry to read that you would not consider coming back to Angama Mara - especially as we so value constructive feedback where we are shown very clearly where there is room for improvement - this is one of the many ways we can only get better. Thank you again for the feedback - we are so appreciative of the candour.

From planning -Tammy at Angama provided honest advice about the every aspect, was always helpful in planning our trip and even brought our safari forward by a day with 48 hours notice.

On arrival we were warmly greeted by a wonderful team and jaw dropping views. The camp it itself is the epitome of luxury with every attention to detail, fixtures and fittings and the fact that it has been erected 1000ft above the mara leaves you in awe of accomplishment of the Angama team.

The tents are extremely well kitted out, with fans, heated blankets, the free standing bath and stunning views.

One word of advice embrace eating fresh, in season farm to table food and letthe chef showcase his best dishes. The chef pulled out all the stops and made a wonderful birthday cake. Being with A fussy Eater, the chef kindly offered of accommodate requests but There were a few issues with the kitchen overpromising and under delivering, of the 7 requests made/offered 4 were not done or poorly executed. This was disappointing as it wasn’t an isolated mistake and not expected at this standard of accommodation, the worst- being served egg in the bush breakfast after telling numerous staff and on the forms that one person was vegetarian (no egg) was not a pleasant experience. HOWEVER Barring these incidents the kitchen/ food was good… Also The mumari ice cream sandwich was simply delicious.

The hospitality was brilliant, with the team going out of the way to look after my elderly mother (with limited mobility) and making her birthday special. From a wonderful sunset Boma, to Wilson, our guide setting up a wonderful bush breakfast to Samuel leading us through the Shambha picking out our lunch to Adlight singing a wonderful birthday song to Roy, always showing care.

Adlight was able to instantly identify our preferences, likes and dislikes and tailored our food and beverage service to these without us even having to say. Wilson, our guide, was the best - sharing so much knowledge, stories and being simply awesome at spotting the animals from 2 cheetahs to a pride of 13 lionesses. Thank you both and the team at Angama.

Thank you Angama Mara for an ‘out of this world’ experience and a lifetime of memories.

Dear Skar, A big thank you from the Angama Mara team for this wonderful review, as we are delighted that you have taken away a lifetime of memories following your stay with us in the Mara, and I hope your elderly mother also treasured her time with us. I have shared your kind comments with the whole team including Wilson, Samuel, Adlight, Roy & Tammy, and they all send their regards. Please also accept my apologies for the underdelivery of certain elements on your plates or whilst on a picnic, in spite of our best efforts we know that we are only as good as the last meal we have served, and have taken your feedback onboard in reviewing how we can improve with the special requests. Once again, our thanks for coming to stay, and for taking the time to share your experience here. Best regards, Steve

Experience/food/luxury accommodations are all taken care of and worth every penny. The people are beyond kind and staff and hospitality are top notch. They always had great good and changes daily menus so you weren’t eating the same thing everyday. They offer luxury wines and spirits and again all included. The per person cost is justified in my option. Amenities include everything from the pool, spa, activities every evening and even a photo studio that has lenses for rent and photo editing/camera help.

I even got engaged here:) they have an amazing champagne, drink set up on the out of Africa filming spots and it made for the most memorable moment in my life.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. I will be back one day.

We finished a 5 night stay at Angama Mara a couple days ago and can’t stop thinking about it. And I don’t think we ever will, either. What a magical place!

The game drives, walking safari, hot air balloon ride, sundowners with the Maasai, night BBQ, in-room massage, as well as the garden and ‘Out of Africa’ picnics were all simply incredible experiences. We lucked out and saw the ‘Big 5’ within our first 24 hours — simply amazing. The property is beautiful; upon arrival, looking out at the Mara for the first time, it took our breath away (we maybe even shed a tear or two). The room was beautifully appointed, and I found myself waking up early each morning just to watch the sunset from bed with a freshly brewed cup of coffee made with the in-room French press.

But what makes Angama Mara so special is the staff who make you feel like you’re a part of their family. It’s only been a couple days and we miss them so! Hospitality at its finest, no doubt about it — I don’t think we heard a ‘no’ or ‘sorry’ from anyone on staff the entire time. They attend to and accommodate your every need. Special thanks to our butler Farida, guide Robert, and the camp manager Josephat who I can’t speak highly enough about. We might go back just to see them!

Thank you @Alex K for this wonderful review. It sounds like the Mara turned on her best for you with seeing the Big 5 in the first 24 hours - not uncommon, but not slam-dunk either! Thank you for giving us 5 days of your precious time, but more importantly for your very kind words about the Angama team - you are correct that they are what truly makes Angama special. Please come back again soon.

My husband, Brendan, and I chose Angama Mara for our safari honeymoon in late July this year, based on a recommendation from Niarra Travel. We were utterly impressed by the exceptional care, warm hospitality, and outstanding experiences offered at Angama.

The impeccable design, diverse programs (picnics, hot air balloon partnership, garden lunch, bbq), spotless surroundings, and fantastic dining at Angama left us in awe. However, what truly set our stay apart was the extraordinary staff who made it unforgettable. Especially the dedicated welcome team (guide, butler, camp manager etc) you’ll get.

The genuine care and love of the staff speak volumes about the leadership and organization. We left Kenya astounded by the incredible experience provided by the entire Angama team.

We love nothing more than connecting with our guests, caring for them, sharing our stories with them, and bringing this beautiful game reserve to life for them. We hope to welcome you back to Kenya one day soon, perhaps next time to our new camp in Amboseli. Very best, Steve PS. We have visited many camps in the Maasai Mara due to the nature of work being in the travel industry. Angama Mara is just out of this world i.e. location, service, the views, food, guides and the team.

What we loved most was that they exactly knew our dietary requirements from the start and being very vegetarians they turned around exceptional dishes. We had a wonderful team of that took great care of us during our stay. Special thank you to Nasiti, Wiki and John.

We are definitely looking forward to sending more guests to this beautiful heaven in the Mara Triangle.

It's always a bit nerve wracking when industry colleagues come to stay but it sounds like we passed with flying colours - thank you so much. And we very much look forward to welcoming your guests to Angama and the beautiful Mara Triangle. It is such a joy preparing vegetarian dishes for our guests - our shamba is the inspiration to keep ensuring our vegetarian guests are being lovingly catered for. In fact most of our guests prefer vegetarian dishes and we always have at least 30% of our daily a la carte menus dedicated to vegetarian dishes. Warmest thanks Nicky and the Angama family

Surely this was one of the most perfectly planned holidays, thanks to Stefanie from the Angama Marketing team. Flights, meet and greet at the airport, transfer to the national airport all worked seamlessly perfect. Very recommendable is the Angama "Best of Both" offer - it gives you the whole experience with bush breakfasts, lunches, sundowners, balloon ride and further services. If you are keen on an original safari feel, then you must stay at the Angama Safari Camp. It is glamping in the truest form as the Angama Team will make sure you will be pampered to the maximum. At the beginning of October we still had some of the migration left. Tito, our guide was simply fantastic. His knowledge and instinct in tracking and spotting even the shyest animals kept us in awe. We cannot thank him enough for this experience, he taught us immense amounts not only about the wildlife, but also plants, the environment and the challenges the Masai Mara is facing – and all of that in a fun and most passionate way. The main camp Angama Mara is truly beautiful – the view over the Mara is just breath-taking. All the amenities are tastefully designed and well maintained. At the same time, one must say that it is the staff – people like Joseph, Bonface and Antony - who make the difference.
One notes that Angama is not only a company that offers amazing holiday experiences to their guests, but also the people behind it care for the environment and the community. 10 out of 10 – we hope to be back!

The facilities here were lovely with great views of the Maasai Mara below. The staff was exceptional, very responsive, friendly and helpful; this included management, game drive guides and dining staff. Dining provided a nice variety of options and one could choose to dine inside or out on the deck. Our unit was very comfortable and always freshened while we were out. I would highly recommend staying here to explore the Maasai Mara.

Dear Kristi. I'm so sorry for the delay in answering this question, as I hadn't seen it. Angama caters for many different dietary requirements, and yes, there are plenty of gluten-free options available which Evans and his team are adept and experienced in producing. Hope you have what you need to finalize your trip, if in any further doubt please write to us at the email address listed. Best, Steve (CEO & Co-Founder)

There really isn't a lobby as such. As we arrived, we met the manager at one end of the dining room, which is pretty much open anyway, except in the rain, and from there we moved out onto the large decked sitting and dining area where all the introductions and briefings were conducted in the fresh air. The only problem is that the view from here over the Masai Mara is so fabulous that it's really not that easy to concentrate!

Hello from Angama We are delighted you are coming to stay with us next and so look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Mara. The response above from Charlie is pitch perfect - who needs a marketing team when your guests do it for you? Thanks so much for coming to stay with us Charlie and for jumping in with an answer. There certainly is a good chance you may see a crossing in October but those pesky migrating animals have a program all of their own - most unpredictable. But of what I can assure you is that you will not be disappointed by your game viewing experience - the Mara never fails to deliver. We will do all we can (cookies, marshmallows) to keep the wildebeest in Kenya in time for your arrival. So looking forward to hosting you here at Angama Warm regards Nicky Fitzgerald Owner
