I am not sure where to start from, but it was a perfect experience from start till end. As I arrived, my guide was waiting for me at the air strip, gently introduced me to the place and to the animals that were gracious enough to welcome all the visitors. My tent had all the needed amenities and overlooked the Masai Triangle. Occasionally, I did have visitors, such a cuddly hyrax that allowed for a selfie. The electric blanket provided well desired warmth while lying in bed gazing at the twinkling stars or silently listening to the thunder and gushing rain. The laundry service was a great plus and my house keeper, Violet, did a great job taking care of the place. My guide, John, was also considerate and experienced such as our gracious butler. Finally, my hike guide, John, was extremely knowledgeable and taught me much about the plants and Masai heritage and culture. I would love to visit again and would recommend everyone does so as well!

From the title of your lovely post all the way to your desire to return filled our hearts with pride. Thank you for this lovely review. It could have been titled The Three Johns. Together with Violet they all asked me to forward their heartfelt thanks for your kind comments about the way in which they cared for you. And now for some happy news. I am sure you noticed that Violet was expecting a baby - well, as soon as you left she surprised us all by having her babe two and a half weeks early. Babe and mother are both well, I am happy to add. We all look forward to welcoming you back to the beautiful Mara soon Warm regards and a happy New Year Nicky

We were very excited to travel to the Maasai and this property after learning the lodge founders came out of retirement to build this dream property. And it certainly did not disappoint. Located at the top of an escarpment that overlooked the Mara, it actually is the location where Out of Africa was filmed. And it was breathtaking with the expanse off the big picture windows of the room and in the dining room/main lodge.
The tented rooms were spacious and appointed with great linens, cozy furnishings (mohair blanket) and even an electric blanket turned on at turn down. There was a super stocked mini-bar with great bits to snack on. The hard wood floor was a bit slippery, and that is probably my only critique, if that is even worthy of one.

But we didn't spend much time in the room because we were too busy going on game drives with our guide--the kind and knowledgeable Daniel who is one of the most professional guides we've had to date. He was a perfect fit for us and we thoroughly enjoyed each time we went out with him each day. Daniel made sure every request we had was met and did his best to make our safari memorable.
On one day my husband went with Daniel and I did a walking tour with John, a local Maasai warrior who took me out just beyond the lodge where we discovered great plants and walked beside zebras and giraffes. He was a highlight and really explained Maasai culture (including drinking cow blood) I highly recommend a walking safari if you want a little exercise and time away from the Landcruiser.
Our butler Kenhamman greeting us morning, noon and night with a huge Kenyan smile and superb service. He got to know our preferences and made sure we were taken care of. The food was clean and some of the cold soups were the best I've had. The 'dawa' we discovered was one of the best cocktails, and that made the sundowners at the fire just perfect. But our biggest highlight was a surprise lunch packed and presented atop a short hike where we overlooked the Mara and dined on yummy food and sipped champagne (think Karen Blixen and Denys Finch Hatton)

But my highlight and most special time was at the "beading room", adjacent to the boutique where local Maasai women bead the most beautiful jewelry and objects for the lodge. One morning I got to sit and I made a bracelet. One of the best souvenirs I've ever had because it has a fabulous story to go along with it. I sat with four women and there was singing and a lot of laughter. I will always remember the few hours I spent there with them and mt bracelet is something I'll cherish.
I can not rave enough about the hospitality we received at Angama Mara. The husband/wife team who serve as lodge managers made sure we were happily taken care of. And that made our stay memorable and why I recommend this to anyone wanting a mix of safari and local culture.

Thank you for coming all the way from the far side of the world to spend some time with us in the Mara. Daniel, John and Kenhamman have all asked me to send your their warmest thanks for your lovely feedback on them. I was also delighted to read that you spent some happy hours in our Beading Studio working with the Maasai ladies. I am sure they enjoyed your company just as much as you did theirs :) And thank you too for your feedback on the floors - well noted and we have a plan! Please come back soon ....

The Angama Mara was a delight for our family! The wildlife was spectacular, and wonderfully close by, based on the gorgeous location of this lodge. Sophie, our guide, was knowledgeable and friendly, ushering our active family of four all over the Mara in search of cheetah, leopards, lions and hippos! Of course, she found them all along with the ever present elephants and giraffes that were fascinating to observe both on foot on our hike and in the jeep on our drives. The rooms are gorgeous with beautiful views. The services offered were certainly more than we needed with a personalized mini bar, bubble baths and similar that may be of greater value for a honeymoon or romantic visit. But the friendliness of the staff and the willingness for all to make our trip unique and special was what made Angama a memorable place. Bonface and the rest of the dining room staff served wonderful drinks and meals and we especially loved the African BBQ and Boma outside at night. Top notch! We will forever remember our wonderful journey to the Angama Mara!

We love that expression 'top notch'! It made the team smile when I shared it with them - thank you for making us feel so proud that you had a good time whilst staying with us. Some guests call Sophie an animal whisperer and it sounds like she was using all her experience when guiding you and I am delighted you enjoyed the wonderful game viewing - including Africa's famous Big Five - that the Mara delivers 12 months of the year. Bonface and the rest of the team join me in thanking you for coming to stay with us and for this lovely review. Warm regards Nicky

We just arrived from Finch Hatton Tent Kenya Tsavo National Park, and I initially was disappointed- no real sitting rooms, no real comfy spaces or any spa and 2 camps, with a very minimal pool that didn’t even have real shade BUT then I learned and had the most amazing safaris, best cuisine, extraordinary hospitality and Maasai Mara park is vast, huge and sighting animals doesn’t require patience as they are everywhere!! This is where the wildebeest great migration and many many lions and giraffes .. I think the big 6.. I did not see the leopard but it was Magestic and the guides were excellent!! We really enjoyed the nature walk learning about the multi use of the plants for medicine. Two very fun and smart guides took us for this a walk/hike and one held a rifle, which was so interesting and made me feel extra safe and protected. However I never once felt threaded by the animals. I wanted to hug them and play with them.. naïveté me!!
The views from our “tent” the ceilings are over 15 feet high and this a stunning structure and there is full bar, fridge, showers but here are 2 minor things.. I turned the gorgeous tub on for a deep warm soak and sand and tiny bits came out. I tried twice as I always clean the tub at a hotel. The manager said they just needed to flush it and repump which he offered to do immediately but frankly I didn’t want them in my tent or listening to water pump and flush.. it just wasn’t that important I was resting after a wonderful long Safari day. The sundowner was fun! Fun to meet other guest especially since there are almost no Americans!!

Dear Donna, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your stay, and my apologies for the trouble with your bath water - from time to time the filters do give us trouble given our rural location. And while I'm glad to hear you did enjoy meeting other guests, we do welcome many Americans with our arms wide open. Thank you too for your personal comments on the architecture and design, noting that most of our guests quite like the privacy of massages on the decks of their tented suites. With best regards from the whole Angama team. Steve
