Incredible Place!!!

Review of Angama Mara
Reviewed 29 Dec 2023via mobile
Amazing place with the most incredible staff!! We were here on December 23 for three nights. You HAVE to stay here! From the location to the food and the staff and the safari’s it’s a must!

Doris and Sadera were great. They were both attentive and patient with our needs. We had a few picky eaters in our group and they made everything seamless. Safari guides Kenneth and Sophie were knowledgeable and helpful.
Rooms are hot during this time of year as the sun comes into all the windows and there’s no air conditioning. However there are ceiling fans and some
cross breeze. The local school put on a show one evening complete with popcorn and apps.
Date of stay: December 2023
Room Tip: Dress for the weather and the bugs. We brought bug jackets from Amazon and hats with mosquitoe...

Thank you @Jodibex for this wonderful feedback - we are so pleased you enjoyed your December stay with us.
As ever, our guests hit the nail on the head: it is the team that makes Angama Mara special, and from what I can read you had a wonderful team looking after you - especially one of our female guides Sophie!
Yes, the tents can get a little hot in the middle of summer, but once you get the fans and the cross breezes blowing and flowing, they do cool down quite quickly - not forgetting the pool for a full cool off if one would like.
We hope to welcome you back one day soon.
Thank you again

We finished a 5 night stay at Angama Mara a couple days ago and can’t stop thinking about it. And I don’t think we ever will, either. What a magical place!

The game drives, walking safari, hot air balloon ride, sundowners with the Maasai, night BBQ, in-room massage, as well as the garden and ‘Out of Africa’ picnics were all simply incredible experiences. We lucked out and saw the ‘Big 5’ within our first 24 hours — simply amazing. The property is beautiful; upon arrival, looking out at the Mara for the first time, it took our breath away (we maybe even shed a tear or two). The room was beautifully appointed, and I found myself waking up early each morning just to watch the sunset from bed with a freshly brewed cup of coffee made with the in-room French press.

But what makes Angama Mara so special is the staff who make you feel like you’re a part of their family. It’s only been a couple days and we miss them so! Hospitality at its finest, no doubt about it — I don’t think we heard a ‘no’ or ‘sorry’ from anyone on staff the entire time. They attend to and accommodate your every need. Special thanks to our butler Farida, guide Robert, and the camp manager Josephat who I can’t speak highly enough about. We might go back just to see them!

Room tip: Don’t overpack; there’s (free) laundry services. Stop by the shop early in your stay; the Maasai women can make you a custom piece.

Thank you @Alex K for this wonderful review.
It sounds like the Mara turned on her best for you with seeing the Big 5 in the first 24 hours - not uncommon, but not slam-dunk either! Thank you for giving us 5 days of your precious time, but more importantly for your very kind words about the Angama team - you are correct that they are what truly makes Angama special. Please come back again soon.

Stayed at Angama Mara for one night and really enjoyed the stay. The view, oh what a view! Equally satisfying on the eyes from the dining area and the tented bedroom.

The dining options were delicious, especially the breakfast setup for me. We did hear the tree hyrax or other animals on the rooftop and windows during the night, definitely felt very close! 🤭 Though it felt a little scary especially with the heavy rains, it was a part of the experience. The heated bed was also a nice touch after a long game drive and a DARK / rainy walk back from dinner. We also enjoyed the view from both the pool and gym facility room. I took advantage of the treadmill and thoroughly enjoyed zoning out, while stretching my legs. Additionally, we really enjoyed the map room and gift shop, only wish we had more time here to thoroughly enjoy the amenities. We did the Shamba lunch and that was a really fun experience, touring the garden and then having lunch isolated from the main property, made for a really special touch.

The game drive was such an amazing experience with Johnnie, he took us to find elephants, a shy rhino and attempted to find a mama lion & cubs, but they were not active when we went. We got lucky with a double rainbow during our drive, which made the experience so much more magical. Johnnie also made sure that we made it back out the park and up the hill to Angama before the sky opened with heavy rains.

Reading all that you experienced, I can hardly believe you only spent one night with us... you certainly packed it in. We hope to welcome you back to Angama Mara one day in the future so that you can do it all again, at a much gentler pace! Karibu sana.

This review is for our guide, Jeremy. We got so lucky to have Jeremy as our guide for our honeymoon - he is personable, professional, patient, polite, and is incredibly good at his job. You can truly feel his love for what he does - that drastically improves the experience in his car. He has a great sense for people and is very relatable and just a great person to spend time with. He has all the facts to recite about the animals, but what is most interesting is his ability to tell compelling stories about the animals and his experiences with them which is very engaging.

In addition, he knows the terrain and animals so well that he is able to make strongly educated guesses about what an animal might do given weather, time of day, knowledge about that specific animal, etc. He routinely positioned the car in a way that wasn't right with the others, but where the animal ended up going towards. He is very well connected with the other guides and rangers which helps give him a sense for where to go to look for specifics, even though nothing is guaranteed in nature.

Jeremy is also an accomplished photographer, which is even more helpful for those who are looking to get great shots as he understands positioning, light, framing, etc.

I would highly highly recommend requesting Jeremy as your guide if you are able to on a visit to Angama. He made our trip truly special. Don't forget to tip him well too!

Thank you @TylerfW6245AR for this glowing review of Jeremy which has been shared not only with him, but the entire Angama team. We are so proud of the incredible experience our guides deliver day in and day out in the Mara - their knowledge of animal behaviour and environment is something we are incredibly proud of. Thank you for these wonderful words.

This place is incredibly special. Our group of 4 ladies visited over the summer and had a wonderful time. The property is exceptional, as are the views. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay, but our favorite part was the people. The staff go above and beyond to make the entire experience extraordinary. We made such special memories and I can't wait to bring my family and kids back for another visit. Thank you, Angama Mara!

Thank you so much for this wonderful review @WinegirlLa - it sounds like you and your girlfriends had a heap of fun, but also managed to notice the heart of what makes Angama Mara special. A team of wonderfully warm professionals. We all look forward to welcoming you, your family and children to the edge of the Great Rift Valley one day soon. With thanks from us all.
