I am just back of 7days at Angama Mara.
I visited the camp in july and could'nt resist to go back to the Mara and stay at this camp.
You must know that I am totally addicted to African Wildlife and try to go very often in the Bush.
The Masai Mara ( Mara triangle) has abundancy of wildlife and above that in september THE great migration is in the Mara!
So you might see some impressive crossings at the Mara river. We saw 6!

Camp: The most fantastic view I ever experienced in Africa!
What a delight to wake and see the sunrise from your bed...
The rooms are huge and with highstandard comfort.
Every detail has been thinken of. ( The owners have a lifetime experience in building lodges, and you notice that)You even have postcards with stamps!
The Main area is spacious, with breathtaking view. You can sit in or out.
The food is excellent. And if you take your breakfast or lunch in the Bush, you get picnic boxes that have also been very carefully prepared ( see picture).
There is a Boma where you can see The sunset and some evening enjoy Masai dances!
We also had bushbarbecue twice! Delicious!
And we had a FANTASTIC picnic on The very spot where Meryl Streep and Robert Redford had theirs in Out of Africa.

At the swimming pool we had some zebra's joining us.

The staff is extremely professional and soo kind! Special thanks to Milka ( operation manager) and our Buttler Bonface. You were so kind and the service was of the highest level!

We also had a massage with Caroline. Very pretty women with powerfull hands.

And to End I would like to Thank Alice Mantaine, our guide!
We saw soooo much in these 7 days! 7 different male lion, rhino, lepard, cheeta's, lioness with cubs, and several crossings.
She wanted us to see it all ( I was with a friend who came for The very First time in The Bush) and we did!
She did her upperbest and we laughted soo much during The gamedrives. It was an unforgettable week!!!!

I will go back!
Thank you to all of you at Angama!

My wife and I spent 8 days at Angama. Mara, after we saw a glowing review in Conde Naste magazine.. Their description and photos of Angama indicated a property that was deserving of being ranked at a Gold level and among the very best in the World.

I won’t waste any time outlining our “bona fides” as global travelers because … if you are looking to stay at Angama Mara, you have both the means and an understanding of what you want in luxury travel experiences.

The review in Conde was FABULOUS but did not manage to capture the essence of the total experience of a visit. It is simply impossible to relate the experience in prose - the location of the property perched high above the Mara; the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff (who frequently referenced the culture and standard set by the Owner); the tremendous views from nearly every spot of the lodge - including your glass enclosed tent; the exquisite meals at every sitting and … finally, the Safari tours of the majestic Mara.

Our host team led by Josephat welcomed us, after a very long journey of 20 plus hours from the US via Nairobi. The upkeep of our rooms was managed by Violet; our butler service by Boniface and our Safari guide/ driver was Daniel. Everything and, we mean everything, was top notch. Every whim was catered to with grace and the entire staff was eager to assist us in making this our “home” for a period.

The property itself is beautiful … A fully outfitted 24 hour fitness center is a godsend for those who like to get in a workout and the rooms, though not air conditioned, have massive ceiling fans and partitioned glass / sliders to let the breezes flow through. Electric covers are standard to ward off the chilly temps of the early hours and evenings. Fully stocked minibar, separate shower/ tub, king sized bed complete the package.

The full length balcony has both a dining and sitting area and overlook the plains where you can just relax with a drink, have dinner, an outdoor massage and just watch the wildlife passing by.

Is it expensive?? Yes, it is.

However, Angama is truly a luxury experience and the worth exceeds whatever amount of dollars, Euro, pounds, shilling, pesos (whatever currency that you spend) on the trip. It is a premium value where you get what you pay for and then some..!

We treated this as a lifetime trip and planned it as such - private guide; massages; balloon ride and hit the Mara for long excursions every single day in attempting to accomplish all of our goals of seeing the Big 5 (done); wildebeest crossing the River (four times), an elephant crossing and pretty much a viewing of every animal in the area from birds to reptiles to mammals. We even covered plant life.

Daniel was extraordinary… patient and extremely knowledgeable of the wildlife and area. He assured our safety and seemed to have a sixth sense (along with incredible eyesight) in having us in the right place at the right time to observe the animals. In addition, he was open to covering any number of conversations on the park, culture, politics and life. We laughed and learned much on both sides.

Our gripes or complaints? None. Is it perfect? Of course not.. no place really meets perfection as a standard but any issues from a negative sense are really at the microscopic level. You would have to be nearly impossible to please to find any real faults with Angama Mara - the property or the presentation.

Good luck finding better!

Dear Byron You have well and truly put me on the spot here. How the heck can I find the right words to thank you not only for staying with us for 8 days but then to top it all with this beautiful review? No other word. Just beautiful. Travel during this pandemic is not for the fainthearted - not from a Covid point of view but all that comes with it. PCR tests, TT codes, QR codes, paperwork up the gazoo and always that niggling at the back of our guests' minds about 'what if...?' The more I hear their travel stories the more I admire them all. Today's longhaul travelers are modern day pioneering heroes - why I even have a guest flying back to Singapore today and going into 2 weeks quarantine in a hotel. If that isn't commitment than I don't know what is. Which brings me to my next point. The travel industry needs to spoil our guests rotten - now more than ever. Without you we are done and dusted but yet you defy the odds and come halfway across the world so you can fall in love with this world again. We all feel a little cross with it and understandably so, but thankfully there will always be the wide open spaces where our guests can breathe again, feel free again and drown in the beauty of the African wilderness. Josephat, Violet, Boniface and of course Daniel asked me to add their heartfelt thanks for your kind words. I've said it before and I will say it again - we know that we have stolen our guests' hearts when they name everyone on the team who took care of them. Your final comment made me laugh out loud. Thank you so much - I needed that. I am that exhausting owner you mentioned who never lets up on how we take care of our guests. Every single day we start from scratch and I know I am the luckiest person in our industry with the team I work alongside each day. And as Angama is my 60th lodge/camp/hotel over a 40 year career I have worked with wonderful people across Africa and in India too, but none hold a candle to this lovely team. Thank you again for coming, for writing and for making us feel so proud of what we do. Warmest regards Nicky

Angama Mara was a wonderful experience. We stayed for 5 nights and grew fond of the staff and tour guide Douglas.

Everyday we went on safari, and everyday we saw something different- we saw 3 rhinos (there are only 11 in the whole Mara), we saw the wildebeest migration and them crossing the river, we found lions mating, hippos emerging from the water holes, we saw a pride feasting, herds of elephants with their babies, giraffes crossing, few hour old zebra, amd many more animals. Douglas was wonderful about finding things on the Mara and our group really bonded with him 😊.

I loved the balloon ride over the Mara during sunrise. It was such a wonderful, smooth ride. I am scared of heights, but wasn't by this. It is a great experience seeing the safari from that vantage point!

The picnics on the Mara were amazing. It was a magical experience having a meal in the middle of the migration.

Speaking of food, everything was delicious at Angama. They had a wide variety of different foods, pasta, fish, meat. The breakfast french toast encrusted with pecans and topped with fruit was my favorite.

The tents were amazing. This is a glamping experience. Wonderful views of the plains as fas as the eyes could see. Turn down service was great and I especially loved the heated blankets. Get a massage while here. Caroline gave me the best one I ever had.

I would like to thank the whole staff at Angama for a truly memorable experience, one of a lifetime. I would be thrilled to come visit again. Thank you!

Douglas is delighted with your feedback on his guiding - he is wonderful to go on safari with - winning smile and all :) The chefs asked me to pass on to you their special thanks for all your kind comments about the food and if you would like the recipe for the French Toast, please send me a message via our Contact Us page on our website and I will gladly send it on to you. And finally, Caroline was so pleased you enjoyed the massage she gave you - thank you for mentioning her, too. Looking froward to welcoming you back one day soon Warmest thanks Nicky

The rooms were well appointed with spectacular views. Everywhere you went was gorgeous.

Elly, our guide, was amazing. He liked to start early and run long. He has over 10 years experience and knew a lot about the great migration, the animals, and the birds. He paid attention to what we saw and focused on filling in anything we missed - becoming obsessed with getting us to see black rhinos (successful on the last night).

Diana, our butler, was exceptional. Her service was fantastic and she was extremely friendly. We took advantage of some of the remote meal options and she had to lug our food up to a 1/4 mile to be ready when we got there. Her champagne opening with wet hands was entertaining :-).

Sammy, our Photographer, was so much fun. He spent most of a day with us and spent hours teaching my wife how to take pictures like a professional. She was so impressed. She went back the next day so that he could show her how to edit them. Her only complaint for the trip was she wished we had gotten Sammy on the first day of our trip instead of the 6th. PS - besides my feeble efforts, Sammy did not fall out of the helicopter :-).

Celine, aka Bone Breaker, gave an excellent deep tissue massage. She did not live up to her reputation as none of my bones were broken :-).

We did the Hot AIr Balloon excursion. These are large balloons holding 14-16 people. They appeared to lift off at sunrise every day we were there. This is a major organization, managing 4-5 balloons at a time very efficiently.

We also did the helicopter excursion to see the elephant project. This allows you to see so much more. Mark, our pilot, was excellent.

The manager of our side of Angama was George. He was very engaging morning and night. We made lots of changes during our stay and he made them all happen seamlessly. Bring a set of headphones as George can talk a lot - just kidding George :-). For a good story ask George about getting lost and ending up in Tanzania :-)

Lastly, my wife's Dad had died recently and she almost did not want to go on the trip. When we told George, he set up a tree planting to plant a tree in his name. There was a short ceremony attended by all of our favorite staff. It was quite emotional. We are planning a trip back to plant a 2nd tree for her Mom when the time comes.

Dear Steve, On behalf of the team, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your experience at Angama Mara. We were delighted to hear that your stay exceeded your family's expectations, and in particular, that some of Angama Mara's rising stars made such an impact: Elly, Diana, Sammy - and equally that George was able to keep you entertained, looked after, and to seamlessly manage the changes to your program. I'm sorry for the loss of your father-in-law, and I promise to keep the elephants out of the garden - sometimes they are a little miffed not to be invited to the ceremony. Thanks again for travelling across the world to join us in Maasailand, and allowing the team to share the beautiful Mara with you. With my best wishes, Steve

We finished a 5 night stay at Angama Mara a couple days ago and can’t stop thinking about it. And I don’t think we ever will, either. What a magical place!

The game drives, walking safari, hot air balloon ride, sundowners with the Maasai, night BBQ, in-room massage, as well as the garden and ‘Out of Africa’ picnics were all simply incredible experiences. We lucked out and saw the ‘Big 5’ within our first 24 hours — simply amazing. The property is beautiful; upon arrival, looking out at the Mara for the first time, it took our breath away (we maybe even shed a tear or two). The room was beautifully appointed, and I found myself waking up early each morning just to watch the sunset from bed with a freshly brewed cup of coffee made with the in-room French press.

But what makes Angama Mara so special is the staff who make you feel like you’re a part of their family. It’s only been a couple days and we miss them so! Hospitality at its finest, no doubt about it — I don’t think we heard a ‘no’ or ‘sorry’ from anyone on staff the entire time. They attend to and accommodate your every need. Special thanks to our butler Farida, guide Robert, and the camp manager Josephat who I can’t speak highly enough about. We might go back just to see them!

Thank you @Alex K for this wonderful review. It sounds like the Mara turned on her best for you with seeing the Big 5 in the first 24 hours - not uncommon, but not slam-dunk either! Thank you for giving us 5 days of your precious time, but more importantly for your very kind words about the Angama team - you are correct that they are what truly makes Angama special. Please come back again soon.
