I recently completed a multi-night stay at the AC Hotel Irla in Barcelona. I originally chose this hotel as I was looking for a Marriott affiliated property at a reasonable price in Barcelona that was within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and public transit for both business and some leisure time. I've stayed at the other AC Hotel at L'Illa mall before, but tried the AC Irla as it was a little cheaper per night for the time I needed to be in Barcelona, and I have no regrets about the decision. (IN fact, I was told they share a manager and are actually a short walk from each other)
The AC Irla is actually a smaller hotel but still very much an AC property. If you've never stayed at an AC Hotel that means a modern and comfortable lobby, spotless simple furnishings in the bedrooms and a nice simple European breakfast. at check in the host was very friendly and I was recognized as a Platinum Elite member and quickly given my key. If you're not familiar with AC Hotels, the breakfast is not free, even for high status members. You do get a discount on breakfast, but I had a rate that included it, so took the bonus points instead.
My room was on the 5th floor and after a quick ride in the TINY elevators, I found corner room at the end of the hall. I do have to say that this hotel is quite a bit smaller than the AC L'Illa. The hallways and rooms are both smaller. As a solo business traveler my queen bed room was plenty big for just me, but would not be suitable for a family or travelers who need a ton of space to spread out. The room was spotless and the furnishings simple and modern. There was no dresser, but a closet to hang some clothes with a safe and a large area to keep your suitcase. There was a small minibar and a work desk and chair. The bed was typical European which means firm but comfortable. There was plenty of power outlets and the wifi in the room was fast enough to watch Netflix at night. The TV has tons of international channels but I only found a few in English, but it was enough for a business traveler.
The bathroom was clean and the shower was quite good despite being absolutely tiny. AC does provide bottles of shampoo and soaps, etc...
In the morning the breakfast area was never crowded and again the host was very friendly. There were basics like coffees, cereals, yogurts, breads with meats and cheeses and fresh fruit. There is also the wonderful spanish omelet. But you do also have the option of ordering some fresh cooked eggs from the kitchen. Despite being simple, everything was good and I was never wanting anything more for breakfast.

I do have to say I have two small complaints about the room. First, is that the room on the 5th floor was VERY warm. Being January there was no AC in the rooms, and the fan didn't do a good job of cooling the room. I tried opening the window but it wouldn't stay open and the street noise was very loud. And that would be the second small problem. The streets around the hotel are quite busy and the noise was louder than expected but not horrible. I did need to leave the curtains closed the whole time as you can clearly see into the apartments across the street and vice versa.

Despite these, I really enjoyed my stay and would absolutely stay at the AC Hotel Irla again during my next business trip to Barcelona.

The hotel is located in the super safe and upscale Placa Francesc Macia area.

Room rates offer great value and the service from all staff was excellent.

The room itself was super clean with all new and modern amenities.

The hotel exceeded my expectations - Perfect for short stays for the business traveler or couple.

The front desk welcome us very well except when we ask about the Wi-Fi the desk said they would call us let me know if we would have free Wi-Fi. My family is a gold member of the Marriott hotels and that is an upgrade for gold members. The location is alright but not anything special. The front desk did give the information of the metro and bus to catch to the places we ask about.
Here is the bad, the bathroom in room 208 has water damage from the room above (black mold). I know the hotel management has seen the damage in shower and bathroom.

The good is front desk is willing to help you anyway. The front desk did schedule or taxi for our trip to airport. They recommended a place to eat also.

The Wi-Fi is terrible and does not work most of the time in room.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone

As mentioned in the subject, the housekeeper was the worst I have met. After a long day, I returned to the hotel to find that the housekeeping department did not replenish the water in the mini bar. Called front desk and he sent this housekeeper up to give me 2 miserable 330ml of water. When she arrived at my door, she knocked so hard. Then, she couldn't wait and attempted to unlock my door. Seriously?! After I opened, she gave me such a black face, I had no idea what she said in Spanish (sounded like she was scolding me), thrust the 2 bottles into my hands and walked away. This is unacceptable. Just tell me if you can't afford to provide me the water. I can buy them myself. I don't need this kind of service.

This is the first time that I've actually taken the time to write a review on a hotel, solely because I was very impressed with the hotel and its service. I was traveling to Barcelona for the first time, before booking the hotel I had emailed them with several questions about attractions and advanced accomodation requests, they were very prompt with responses, and gave great insight and advice which was helpful since it was also my first time in Europe.

Once there:
Checkin went smoothly and there wasn't a wait. The location was in walking distance ( 15 or so minutes) to Las Ramblas but the area the hotel was in was very nice, had a lot of shopping, restaurants, and a pickup for the tour bus. The room was nice/clean. (not the biggest, but very modern and sleek.) Didn't have any probs with A/C. (but don't forget a plug adapter for your electronics in case they don't have any left at the front desk)

On my last day prior to taking another cab to the airport, I happened to lose my wallet, the hotel staff helped me to cancel my credit cards and took my information in case they heard anything. Before I got off my flight to the US I received an email from them stating the cab driver had returned my wallet, they then shipped it to me and I received it within 2 days.

This property was great before, during, and after my stay. The accomodations were very modern, sleek, and like another reviewer mentioned- they had an awesome clear sink in the bathroom. The front desk agents were kind, and helpful in terms of providing suggestions for activities and nightlife.

As a past hospitality major in college, I am typically very critical about customer service, however I believe this hotel went well beyond my expectations.

We were traveling on Marriott points and needed value. The hotel was clean. Rooms were a bit small and dated. One of our 2 rooms was not ready till after 6. Construction outside makes hailing cabs or walking to the property tough. They rekeyed all the rooms during our 3 day stay (lucky us). Just ok. Breakfast buffet looked awful - we decided to go elsewhere - would have been nice to have a place to eat in the am where we stayed.

OK, this hotel is not in the center of Barcelona, but a tram line stops right out front of hotel, 3 minutes later your' at the Maria Christina tube stop, 10 minutes, later you'er at La Rambla. Got the 4 day unlimited pass and felt it was as easy as the tube in London to get around town, also works on Tram and Buses. The Hotel is located in a major shopping Center (Irla), with an international food pavilion, and many restaurants within 2-4 blocks, and in the evenings lots of foot traffic and lighting for a sense of security. The hotel staff was very accommodating, most especially Alejandro at front desk, he helped with a number of questions and hints for the city. The room, as an platinum upgrade and had the a more than king size bed. Toilet area was oversized, and we were above the major shopping center entrance on third floor, facing the main traffic of the Avinguda Diagonal, no issues with noise, very quite. OK, every hotel has demons, ours had a toilet that smelled like feline urine, we asked the morning desk clerk for assistance, the problem was reduce, not eliminated, but for those who have been on a cruise ship, you can put up with some faint odor. (my wife and I are not big on moving rooms once settled) this was not a deal breaker, and by the third day, had vanished. Lastly----the bar does not open till 7:00pm how uncivilized.

We have stayed here seven days while touring the city for our second time. The hotel is not quite what you would expect from a Marriott product. However it has met our requirements.
Pros are that their standard rooms are easily cleaned because of the lack of rugs and minimal furniture. No coverlet...just a duvet which can be removed and cleaned every day. You receive packaged amenities like a package of tissues with four in it. There was ample hair shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, body lotion and shower jell. Plenty of hot water. Small but adequate exercise room, and small breakfast room.
As for the cons, there were no ice buckets so we had to request ice be brought up for an injury. They were very efficient and brought it right up. No coffee, clock radios, and too few hangers for a week stay. Coffee in lobby though. We asked for a quiet room. Room 402 is not quiet. It is situated over a traffic light so that you are hearing stop and go traffic in particular loud motorcycles and trucks. Lasts into the evening and starts early in the morn. We asked for an up grade because we are permanent Platinum members and did not get it. We used a five and 2 day transportation pass for getting around. Used it to take a train from the airport to the main train station and caught a taxi there to hotel. Nearest metro is a 15 min. walk to Hospital Clinic metro station.
If you want fair value, cleanliness and efficiency, then this is it. If you expect luxury then this is not for you.

Dear Kathleen, First of all thank you for sharing your experience in our hotel on Tripadvisor. Our center location provide us the benefits of being close to all the public transport and shops, but occasionally the cons of traffic noise as per all the hotels in downtown. In case you require more amenities, kettle, ice buckets, or extra towels, we have them under request. Our priority is make the guests feel like at home, we want to have a special connection with every guest. Also inform you, during your stay we were fully booked, so we can not offer you an upgrade as we would like to. We are the smallest Marriott in the world, just 36 rooms, so is very difficult to have availability for all the week on October (a very busy month in Barcelona) Feel free to contact us during your stay, we hope you have a nice experience in Barcelona!

Overall, a nice hotel for the price. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Rooms were well equipped and clean.
Only negative is location, it is a little bit out of the way for tourists, but it's also pretty quiet. Getting a taxi is pretty easy and the subway is not too far.

how far is the AC hotel by Marriott Irla to the closest hop-on hop-off bus stop
Answer from acirlagm
Greetings from AC Hotel Irla by Marriott! The closest hop-on hop-off bus stop is Diagonal / Francesc Macià and it is located on Diagonal Avenue just 4 min away from the hotel. From there you may take either the red or blue line and it would show you all around the city from the old town to the Park Güell! If there is anything else we might assist you with, do not hesitate to ask. Thank you.

I didn't experience any road construction around the hotel during my stay (June 2, 2019). If there is construction it may have started after my stay or been completed before my stay. My room overlooked the street and was quiet.
