When reviewing a hotel, I believe we should be fair and comment on whether the property matches what it claims to be. In short, if something is 3 stars, don't complain if it does not match 5 star expectations.

I stayed here for 2 weeks (13 nights). The rooms are very, very small. I think for a couple staying here, they best really like each other as well as plan to spend most, if not all of their time out of the room. Short of a desk chair, there is no space to sit besides on the bed.

The rooms have a small refrig, which is nice if you want to bring back food. You are about 4 blocks from a very large Corte Ingles store which houses a massive grocery store in the basement. There are a few small markets nearby that are open 24 hours/ 7 Days a week.

Breakfast is okay and the same, over all the days I was there. Its a good variety and will get the job done (filling your stomach), but it's not something to write home about.

I found the staff to be polite and for the most part very friendly. Look, we all have our good days and then some not so good days. I was a little disappointed that as a Marriott Platinum member, someone staying for two weeks, the first room I was offered was across the elevator and barely enough room to put one bag down. Went downstairs and said this wasn't going to work. Took a little bit of pressing before I was magically offered a slightly better room, away from the elevators with a tiny bit more space..meaning I didn't have to trip over my bag on the way to the bathroom!

The gym might as well be closed. It's in a bunker sized room, couple of treadmills/ station bikes, a TV and that's it. No room to really do anything.

Location is pretty good. You can catch a bus to the gothic area, if you want. Not the best location for the metro at all. I was there for work and I was only about a 20 min walk to the office. Would probably not stay there again if I was staying this long. Too confining.

My room was definitely dated. The ceiling in the bathroom was a study in mold stains. Whatever vent fan they might have had was either inadequate or not working. The AC leaves much to be desired. I had it on the lowest setting possible and it barely did the job. Only by keeping the curtains closed did I have a chance to keep the room cool enough

Responded Jun 23, 2017
Dear Fceexp1, Thank you for your time to share your recent experience at the AC Irla by Marriott. We are sorry to hear that you have found aspects of the hotel that did not suit your needs. We are located in the heart of one of the best neighborhood of Barcelona surrounded by many restaurants, shops, away form the crowds… that’s the reason why our property is smaller that the standards in Marriott and our services are sometimes limited in the space comparing to the other big Marriott hotels, but we have other strengths, like a guest service more personalized. As a team we will review your comments and implement measures to ensure our customer's expectations. We hope you will consider AC Hotel Irla on your next visit to the city so that you can see our strives for a constant improvement.

The front desk welcome us very well except when we ask about the Wi-Fi the desk said they would call us let me know if we would have free Wi-Fi. My family is a gold member of the Marriott hotels and that is an upgrade for gold members. The location is alright but not anything special. The front desk did give the information of the metro and bus to catch to the places we ask about.
Here is the bad, the bathroom in room 208 has water damage from the room above (black mold). I know the hotel management has seen the damage in shower and bathroom.

The good is front desk is willing to help you anyway. The front desk did schedule or taxi for our trip to airport. They recommended a place to eat also.

The Wi-Fi is terrible and does not work most of the time in room.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone

Stayed here for 3 nights while in Barcelona on business. As I was relatively familiar with some of the city I choose to stay a little further away from the main tourist area. This hotel was close enough to walk to all the transport - was 15-25 mins to the airport bus stop and the Sants train station. There were plenty of eating places in the immediate area. I was staying during a pretty quiet time and literally only saw 3 other guests while there. The staff were very helpful, spoke good English and provided any info I needed. My room was neat, clean and quiet. It was quite small and with 2 people it would probably be cramped with more than a few suitcases.

The neighborhood is a perfect Barcelona location. The hotel was modern. The rooms were clean and spacious (for Europe). We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet breakfast each morning. The espresso machine in the room was a great touch. It was super easy to get to all the various city transportation options from this hotel. Mostly I wanted to write this review to mention how incredibly helpful Sergio, the front desk manager, was. He gave us very good directions for everything we wanted to do around the city, including step, by step instructions on how to get to Montserrat by public transportation. Can't wait to go back!

This is the first time that I've actually taken the time to write a review on a hotel, solely because I was very impressed with the hotel and its service. I was traveling to Barcelona for the first time, before booking the hotel I had emailed them with several questions about attractions and advanced accomodation requests, they were very prompt with responses, and gave great insight and advice which was helpful since it was also my first time in Europe.

Once there:
Checkin went smoothly and there wasn't a wait. The location was in walking distance ( 15 or so minutes) to Las Ramblas but the area the hotel was in was very nice, had a lot of shopping, restaurants, and a pickup for the tour bus. The room was nice/clean. (not the biggest, but very modern and sleek.) Didn't have any probs with A/C. (but don't forget a plug adapter for your electronics in case they don't have any left at the front desk)

On my last day prior to taking another cab to the airport, I happened to lose my wallet, the hotel staff helped me to cancel my credit cards and took my information in case they heard anything. Before I got off my flight to the US I received an email from them stating the cab driver had returned my wallet, they then shipped it to me and I received it within 2 days.

This property was great before, during, and after my stay. The accomodations were very modern, sleek, and like another reviewer mentioned- they had an awesome clear sink in the bathroom. The front desk agents were kind, and helpful in terms of providing suggestions for activities and nightlife.

As a past hospitality major in college, I am typically very critical about customer service, however I believe this hotel went well beyond my expectations.
