I gave this place a 3 as an average. If you are a national Mexican tourist, and the resort was 95% Mexican tourists, it is probably a 4 or 5. Compared to the previous Sunwing all inclusive resort I was at, it is a 2. I only have these 2 places to compare.

The rooms were okay, but from a Canadian perspective, needed some renovations/upgrades. Two of the rooms we booked occasionally had a strong sewer odor in the bathrooms, probably since the plumbing I could see did not use proper odor sealing 'P' traps. Hot water for showering was variable from nice and warm to hot.
The food was mediocre, and I am anything but a picky eater. Hardly anyone was in the pool, as it was quite cold as hotel pools go. Also, there were amenities offered on line which did not appear to exist at the facility.
The real issue, which was not satisfactorily resolved, was the booking system between Expedia and Vamar Vallarta. When we booked the vacation, we had registered for 5 people. We paid for 3 double occupancy all inclusive rooms, which we received. At the time of booking, we did not know if the 6th person could come, and made the huge mistake of thinking that since we paid for 6 people, that could be adjusted when we got there. The hotel said we would have to pay for another person. Expedia was called and provided a case number and a phone number for the hotel booking service to call to resolve this. The hotel declined and asked for the extra payment. Two of our family members were so upset with the attitude and quality of the hotel that they returned to Edmonton on the 3rd of their 8 day stay.
In the long run, the hotel actually came out ahead. When the remaining 4 of us checked out, you can imagine the delight I experienced when they wanted another $900. Seriously? I was not amused as I had got to know the manager and a marketing lady quite well. After calling the manager, they did drop the additional charges, which in my opinion, should have been dropped long before our check out time.

Pluses? The A/C worked well and there were no cucarachas. Nice view of the marina. The staff were friendly, but some of the customer service skills we were used to were absent.

P.S. Never deal with anyone for a taxi in the airport or in an adventure facility. The hotel was fine, but always go the the street and hail a cab. If you don't you could end up paying 2 to 6 times what you should.

The only problem that we had was at check in , it took almost two hours for them to give us the key, seemed like there were other people were having the same problem. The two specialty restaurants that were opened were outstanding , the Italian and the seafood next to the beach. The buffet was also good and the service was A+ all the servers were very attentive. They had a different theme of food at the buffet every day for dinner, which was good. Do not expect room service , because of the pandemic there is none and no small refrigerator either . We got the standard room which was very basic no wall pictures very small but that was what we paid for. The only hangup tru out the whole was only about 50% of the people wore the face cover , when going for your food or walking tru the lobby and no one told them anything , other than that everythine was good.

We went to Puerto Vallarta on a quick getaway for a few days this past January. We decided on this all inclusive resort as it was just a short stay. The reviews were decent so I booked it last minute. Upon arriving, our check-in process went very smoothly but as soon as we got to our room, we were totally surprised & disappointed. We were in the tower #7, room 721 across the street from the main lobby & pool. The room I gather from entering use to be a timeshare unit, but now I don’t even know what you would call it. The bedroom with king bed looked ok, but the furniture looked to be original at least 20 years old. Everything was dark brown & old. The bathroom was updated slightly but the shower & window had cracks in them. The living area consisted of a couch, another chair & one mounted tv on the wall. The kitchen was bare, countertops & cabinets still there but very old & bare. The room was stripped of the refrigerator, washer/dryer & patched up in various places. There was no security bar on the patio, so feeling secure was uh-oh....The phone didn’t work, no tv in bedroom or hairdryer. Finally after one night we went to the front desk & asked to be moved. They moved us to the main hotel with elevator to room 5082. This was a lock off unit of a timeshare which pretty much was a basic hotel room. At this point, anything was better than the first. It was fine, very simple too but again needed to be updated. There was one light over the bed headboard, no lamps, 2 charging plugs for devices plus a horrible rotten egg smell. We remedied that by putting a wastebasket over the drain. I will have to say, we had a beautiful view overlooking the pool. The one other negative thing about this resort is that you can only book a reservation for the specialty restaurants between 3-5p. Other all inclusive places usually you can take care of that right when you check in. I will say that the food in the main restaurant was decent, some repetitive dishes but overall ok. The drinks were weak at most of the bars. The employees we encountered throughout the resort were friendly, accommodating & nice. I would not stay here again as it is just really an outdated place that needed a major overhaul & remodeling update. Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful place & we will return!

my daughter and i stayed june 23-28 at the resort, i upgraded to a room with a balcony and the price was very reasonable to do so, we did have to wait for the room to be cleaned about 1.5 hrs. we were able to eat while we waited and one of the staff members by the name of joel took it upon himself to assist us in getting into our room after he realized it was taking a long time, the room was clean, the view was beautiful, the air was cold, everything was in working order, the buffet is outdoors and you will have to deal with the heat, flies, and birds at some point, you also can not go into the area in your swim suit. most of the food is traditional Mexican and it was some of the best Mexican food i have ever eaten...loved it! the seafood restaurant was ok, we didn't go to the Italian restaurant, the beach side is a small area, also well-kept and pretty view, we did go to another beach to swim. the resort has entertainment nightly and could be seen from our room and we were able to sit outside our room and watch, i found this resort to be a family environment so not much night life at the resort, the guest were mostly Hispanic families and staff is Hispanic, so communicating in Spanish helps alot, i think the staff was afraid to speak with us because we are english speaking until they realized my daughter could speak spanish, the staff at times seemed to be understaffed, but joel is outstanding, he assisted us on more than one occasion. there are a few things that would have made my stay more enjoyable, there is no room service and the rooms have no coffee maker, i had to go to the lobby or restaurant every morning for coffee and one morning around 7:15am i went to the lobby, then restaurant, they sent me back to the lobby and then i was sent back to the restaurant all in search of one cup of coffee, all of that could be avoided with a coffee maker in my room, there is no ice, the only ice is at the bars and the lobby bar didn't have ice until it was open, the buffet didn't have ice for the drinks either, no ice machines for the rooms...i did see ice being delivered in the city so maybe it's a thing but i was always on the search for ice, and the last thing is our room key disabled twice and we had to go to the lobby and wait in line to get the key reset to unlock the door, stuff happens but twice was a little much. overall the resort is clean and well kept, the pools were clean, there is an adult pool which was great for us, i enjoyed the family environment and the food but some things could be better

I'm always traveling and don't often take the time to write a review, but after seeing some of the negative comments below I wanted to share my experience. The hotel is in a great area of PV at the marina and you can walk around the shops close by. There is a fantastic market at the marina on Thursday nights. The hotel is old and is rated 3stars, however it is clean and the food was very good. The staff are outstanding and were always very pleasant. Would have been nice to make tea/coffee available at all times (not just during meal times). For the price I am very pleased and would consider returning. Note the construction at the building next door is near completion and was no bother at all. AC worked fine once we figured it out, and there is water bottle refill stations on each floor. Bus to downtown is out front for 10 pesos and takes 35minutes. The pool area was calm at most times and there is little to do here at night, but most people would head to the clubs downtown.

This was our second visit to Vamar. Our main reason for returning to Vamar was price.

On our previous visit we had a room with a balcony and while we enjoyed the balcony we found the room to be very dark with areas we considered to be dead spaces.

Fast forward to this trip. Vamar fit the bill for a relatively economical priced trip, meaning it had to be reasonable in price to eat out most meals and provide a comfortable clean place to sleep.

Our room was clean and while lacking in balcony space was bright and quiet. We purchased a cooler from Kiosko along with ice and boom we had a refrigerator.

We did enjoy one lunch beachside and found the waitstaff attentive.

On the Marina side we enjoyed a few late lunches and again found all the waitstaff to be very attentive and accommodating. We enjoy a glass or two or three of white wine and we never found our glasses to be empty for long.

We appreciated again the availability of self service coffee at the Lobby Bar and the baked goods also provided.

We enjoyed our "happy hours" and while seating was not always available in the bar area, we managed to find seating not too far away.

Puerto Vallarta in general has so many great restaurants and the Marina is no exception. If you find it in your budget to eat off property and are looking for a smaller hotel than give Vamar a try.

I stayed for four nights on business, attending a conference. Vamar is very well priced. I had never been to an all inclusive resort before and was very impressed. There was a great range of food and, amazingly, even the alcohol was all free. If I was there on holiday instead of business, I would have taken much more advantage of this. There are beautiful pools, the rooms are large. It is located at the Marina - roughly 150 pesos to get a taxi to downtown.

Two things were not so great. They have music blasting right up till 11pm. It didn't bother me but if I was there with my young family it would have been annoying. Second, I couldn't quite believe it but they did not have WIFI in the rooms. There was a crappy TV with bad reception but that was it. There is WIFI in the lobby. But seriously, people do not watch TV and movies at hotels anymore, we want to watch Netflix or stream our own movies and shows. And especially because I was there for work, it really was a pain having to go to the lobby to check emails etc.

All in all I had a wonderful stay, the staff were lovely and the whole area is great.

My husband and I came for 2 weeks for our honeymoon. I’ve stayed at several all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta and have always had exceptional service and amenities. From the moment we stepped out of the cab the staff was AMAZING! It seemed like they all remembered our names which was such a special touch. When we got to our room I was extremely disappointed. There was a small desk with a couple of drawers, no lamps, no refrigerator and it was very very dirty. The ceiling fan had 3 lights and only one was working. The bathroom ceiling light didn’t work either. There was paint on bathroom walls that dripped down all over the dirty tile- it just felt so uncomfortable. I asked for hangers since we didn’t have much drawer space and we’re going to be there for 2 weeks, we never received them. We didn’t have a balcony, which we were supposed to have. Our room looked out on the marina side pool and just outside our door was the entertainment area where shows were put on. Needless to say, it was extremely noisy and the what seemed to be constant housekeeping carts and employees communicating with each other on radios made it very difficult to sleep. I want to be very clear- the servers/bartenders/bellboys were outstanding and made up for the horrible amenities. We were not impressed at all by the availability of food when we needed it. The only option we seemed to have was the buffet/snack bar on the ocean side which was not great except for the pizza! If we didn’t make reservations at the restaurants 24 hours in advance we didn’t have any other choice. We are so very grateful for Yesenia, Jose, Ubaldo and the chef along with other service staff - couldn’t ask for better service but the room, availability of food and bars that were open were so limited we actually ordered dominoes and had to eat outside of resort many times. Im sorry to say we will not be back. We feel like the staff does the best they can with the resources they are given so it’s sad we won’t be back to see them due to the amenities. They work very hard to provide a beautiful experience and are so kind and helpful. They are the only appealing part of Vamar.

Absolutely loved my 3 weeks at this resort. The staff truly made this trip so great for me. From the front entrance there was Manuel (bellboy) who made sure I was doing great every single morning and helped with anything I needed right to the day I checked out. Truly appreciated him. Also the other bellboys and front counter staff were exceptional. I honestly have no complaints about this resort. I wasn't aware when I booked it that the Marina is on one side and across the street is the beach. Wasn't a problem at all and a nice short walk. Towels were plentiful and never an issue to find. Pool chairs galore, definitely not the same vibe as other resorts where you have to find your chair earlier the better. Never had this happen, chairs can be found at any time.
The buffet is small but delicious. Always was greeted warmly and looked after. I personally really like the Italian A la cart and Jose was my favourite server, took very good care and presented himself really well with some fun. Ivan always brought the fresh warm bread rolls and the Sangria. Very nice. There is a seafood a la cart but the hours are 1 to 4 I think. I don't like seafood so didn't check it out and it's on the beach.
On the beach there's the snake shake that has great pizzas, burgers etc. 2 pools at the beach too and you can enjoy the water.
Hotel side there are 2 pools as well.
Everything was always clean, my room was done very well everyday by Mancela.
I met so many great people and shared many great laughs.
I will be back.
Thank you!!!!
