We stayed on December 17,2004, for two nigths.
This is a hotel that caters mainly to bussiness people, as the front desk clerk expalined while he helped us carry our luggage to the room by hand on several trips, because there are no luggage trolleys at the hotel.
The staff is very young but very professional.
we had two rooms and they were very modern, excelent beds, clean and good linen and towels, parquet floor, ample room, modern well lit bathroom, great hair dryer and amenities, with wonderful wide shower, no tub.
breakfast was very well supplied, fresh fruit and juice, very good quality.

our daughter arrived ill, so her husband purchased special food items at a nearby market. he ordered room service, very good quality of the items delivered, and the staff warmed the items he had brought for her.

the only BIG problem was that the heating system could not be controlled in the room. It was so HOT, we had to remove the blankets from the beds. The heat seeped from underneath the door and it warmed the room, in spite of having turned off the climate control in the room.
we opened the windows, but...even though we were in winter, the heat was so powerful, that the room temperature was around 28ªC (83-84ºF). (we had recently purchased an electronic curiosity: a travelling alarm clock that displayed temperature)

The hotel is located on a busy street, with traffic at all hours, so it was impossible to sleep with the noise. If we closed the window... the temperature rose to 34ºC (93ºF).

We complained to the front desk, and their suggestion was doing exactly what we had already tried (with no success).

Next day we complained again, and they promised to lower the heating.

Despite this, the next nigth we encountered the same problem.
Upon checking-out we wre informed that there seemed to be a failure or malfunction of some sort on the heating, that they could not solve because they did not have the required authorization from the management.

We left a letter addressed to the manager, with our contact info, congratulating them on the good points, but complainning of our lack of rest because of this problem. We suggested more authority for the staff on duty over the week-ends, to solve inmediately this type of situation.
One of the suggestion we left was to at least install a system of climete control that allows the guest to decide which type of temperature he/she wants.

to this date we have not heard anything from them.....

If the temperature problem is solved, then street noise is not a factor for a good nigth rest, because it is a very good hotel, a good value for your money.

Arrival without booking at 10:30 pm dying for a bed. A slow finding out if there's a room starts. Booing.com said there was, but in a 35-room hotel they don't know and need to check. The price he offers is higher than in Booking.com and when I suggest that I can instantly book it there he says no. 5 more min typing in the computer. In the process the only guy takes two long phone calls. After the second he says he needs to go to attend a room service and that we should wait. When 15 min later he is back, after my comment of "I hope now you're paying attention to us" he answers back that we can look for another hotel if we want. We certainly did. We left and found other much nicer, faster and warmer receptionist.

I stayed in this hotel as it was the cheapest option for my recent trip to Barcelona. The hotel is in good location: quiet residential area near Diagonal avenue with good local restaurants and cafes. Hotel is nice: spacious rooms with air conditioning, free minibar (soft drinks only), clea linen and fully stocked spacious bathrooms with hairdryers. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You do need to pay for the internet unless you are Marriott member and the room service menu is limited to just sandwitches that cost arm and leg. The gym is tiny: 3 machines with no TV, so make sure you bring your own entertainment for your workout.
The hotel is definitely good for business people like myself staying just for a night or two. However, I would not stay in this hotel if you came as a tourist: it is just way too far from any types of attractions: La Rambla is around one hour walk (or 15 euroo by taxi) and shopping on Diagonal is probably not within your average tourist financial abilities.
So do decide what it is that you are after before you decide on this hotel.

It was off the beaten path when I chose this hotel. It was literally in a neighbor hood . I did respect the fact of how the locals enjoy there evening meals, this hotel did not live up to my expectation . We got a corner room it had a huge window as we people watched. The continent breakfast was ok. The coffee was in the lobby so in the morning you had to buy your coffee tablets . Hector was as helpfully as he can be, our room was very small and had glass partition .
Separating the bed from the shower The hotel was not what I am a custom to. I We did have to walk and walk to get to any transportation . Hector gave us a map and did help us with exchange of the dollar. They did not have room service that was other than a cheese plate. I should have check out after the first night but we just sucked it up and as they say when in Spain do as the Spaniards do.
I will be back to Barcelona, a beautiful place filled with beauty.

I stayed in the AC Irla last night and I had the same problems with the heat as a previous reviewer, pachuchu47. Such a shame, because otherwise a nice hotel.

Because it was so hot/or noisy with the window open, I didn't sleep until gone 2am and so I overslept for my business meeting this morning, all a bit stressful and tiring, not ideal.

However, the staff were very nice and did try to do what they could. They sympathised, gave me a big bottle of ice cold water to drink and offering to call the heating engineer,. The trouble was it was gone midnight and I wanted to sleep, not have an engineer work on the air con in my room!

Other than that, really great location, fantastic for shops and in a characterful district with plenty of laid-back, stylish bars and restaurants. Very pleasant staff and nice touches in the hotel; I was
told I could take anything from the minibar free (check, it might
have been a special tariff and I don't want to mislead anyone!) and the coffee/bar area in the hotel foyer was free for guests - that was really good as you could make yourself a coffee anytime, so much better than having to order room service and wait. Also the breakfast
was gorgeous; delicious fresh bread rolls, cheeses amazing want to eat them all again. Fresh fruit, good coffee and all that kind of thing. If I hadn't overslept, I would have taken even longer over breakfast.

Not the biggest rooms in the world, but nicely laid out with super- clean bathrooms and, oh yes, a fantastic range of stuff in the bathroom including comb, toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, tissues, shoe shine, showercap etc. and, joy, a proper professional hairdryer with blow-dry nozzle (fab news for my fellow frizzy-haired friends out there!)

All in all, a very nice hotel, just turn the temperature down and it will be even better.
