The beach and the lake are great. The cottages are very nice and clean.
Been there last summer for the first time and will go back in July 2012.
We have not used the restaurant, the SPA or bought any packages. We just rented a cottage and had fun.
In the cottages that we rented (3 and 5 bedrooms) there was no AC, but it was OK.
We had a problem with shower overflow in the basement apartment but it was quickly fixed by the staff.

We stayed in a condo, with air conditioning - it looks like a cottage in the inside, with a fireplace, lots of wood, and a little kitchen and a washer / drier. Very nice lodging. Could not hear anything from the 3 other condos in the same building - seems very well soundproofed.
Some activities available, such as canoe / cayak / swimming. Other activities are setup during the week. Teens on summer jobs manage those - not the most enthusiastic but ok. Take some time to visit the waterfall, it is quite special, and kids can slide in it - looked like great fun for them. It is a few km off site though.
There is a good number of horse flies, that were a bit annoying when walking, but there are none when you are on the water more than 10 m away from the shore.
The restaurant is ok - some meals being much better than others.
It is a bit remote, but a nice place to be for vacation.
The appartments have a kitchen, but the nearest grocery is half an hour away by car - so better plan in advance.
Their website says there is wifi only in the restaurant and reception, but there is one in the room too - just ask the restaurant for the password.
Overall we very much enjoyed our stay.

We spent another great week-end at Windigo in July 2012.
Since our last visit they added the following services:
- two new inflatable water structures (free)
- evening beach entertainment (week-end) (free)
- forrest obstacle course with a small zip line (free)
- ATVs (paid)
- life guard on the beach
They solved all the issues in a matter of minutes.

Mike R wrote a review Aug 2020

We have stayed at Le Windigo about 7 years ago and decided to rent a chalet for the 1st week of Aug.2020 and i can say with certainty that the it is nowhere near the same level of quality or service of what you would expect from a luxury chalet.

Upon arrival, our first smell of fresh air consisted of rotting garbage from the large garbage bins right outside the front door. These are very large bins and were completely full. We were a family of 4 adults and barely made a dent with our garbage after a week so these must have been there for 2 to 3 weeks. The odour surrounded the chalet.

The interior of the chalet was very nice and well maintained with the following exceptions:
The ceiling fan in the master bedroom was beyond its life. It was very hot the first day and listening to the clack, clack, clack sound of the fan was not possible at night. To give you a perspective of how loud it was, it could be heard from outside about 50 ft away from the chalet.
The kitchen supplies were extremely lacking. The teflon frying pans were flaking and should have been replaced a long time ago. Who wants to cook food to their families with chunks of teflon in their food?
The sharpest knife out of 3 knives was a small pairing knife.
The unit came with 1 dishwasher puck and a ultra small container of dish soap. The closest store is 30+ minutes away.

This unit had a deck that was there and was removed. Based on the state of the rot on the wall where the deck was attached, it had also reached its end of life and while it no longer existed, I completely understand that it may be work in progress and due to Covid-19 was pushed off.

While we were eating at the picnic table, the bench where i was sitting was rotted and broke causing me to fall to the ground. Again, not very well maintained. BTW, I am not a large person weighing in at less than 200 lbs.

The gas bar-b-que tank ran out of gas during cooking on our 2nd night. While it is annoying to run out of fuel right in the middle of cooking, i can appreciate that this can happen at any time.

I did bump into someone on the site that came around to give me a notice about my trailer being on the lot which I did move to the additional parking area but I did mention to him the issues that I had found on our 1st day. I will say that they were quick to respond to the garbage issue and to replace the broken piece of wood on the picnic table but they never came back to fix the fan in the master bedroom.

At the rate of $3200 a week and when I compare to comparable units we stayed at in the past, they are getting well compensated at this rate. The ratings placks from booking.com in the reception area must be from 7 years ago. The place is just not the same and for the most part has nothing to do with Covid.

Based on this last experience, this will be our last stay at Le Windigo.

The location is fabulous. beautiful view even of it is a long drive to get there.
The condo was nice but needs maintenance as small things like a faucet that stayed in my hands, having to open windows from the ouside, etc...Little things that are annoying.
The staff needs to work on their customer service. The location advertised many KM of walking trails but they have no maps. we were given a black and white 8x10 photocopy and told if we wanted more to look at the map outside the main door of the reception. we ended up walking on a construction road for 3 hours due to the lack of proper signage. We asked if they had better I was told sorry but no. For the price we paid...that could be better.
Bring all your food, kitchen supplies as everything is sold at the reception that only opens at noon.
so basically great location but needs work for the price paid.

Beautiful pictures and chalet but not much more to then that.. The grounds were not maintained, the chalet was dirty and customer service is minimal. Definitely not worth $200+ taxes/ night. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Hello, For once I rather answer your comments in french knowing you understand and for making shure there are no mistakes in translation : BOnjour, Votre commentaire lapidaire dénote avec ceux des clients ayant séjourné en même temps que vous. Cordialement

We stayed in a cottage for a week with two kids aged 12 and 14, and had one of our best family vacations ever!

This place is, quite simply, extraordinary. The setting is magnificent, with the sprawling Baskatong reservoir, beautiful sandy beach, remarkably secluded location, and mountains in the distance. The effect is quite magical - between the location (45 minutes away from closest town), the serene environment, gorgeous cottage and off the grid location (wifi works in the reception, but not in cottage), the Windigo instantly transports you to relaxation and family fun.

The surprise of the place is the restaurant, which is top-notch. This allowed us to have a real break, since we had two brunches and two lovely dinners in the restaurant, with the rest of the meals prepared in the cottage. You just can't believe the quality and variety of food on offer in such a secluded spot.

The cottage is perfection - rustic but charming, immaculate, fully equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, complete with laundry and satellite TV for nighttime or rainy afternoons.

The setting is an ideal mix of total relaxation with enough activities to keep the family happily occupied - bikes, a fun obstacle course in the forest, pool, ping pong, canoes, kayaks and a trampoline in the lake that the kids adored. The kids met lots of other children and instantly connected, which made for a very convivial and charming stay.

It's clear that this is a place built with the love, hard work and incredible attention to every detail of the Belgian owner and his family ... the European flair really comes through.

The highlight was that we rented the "Sphaire" for an evening - an incredible first in Canada in "glamping". It's an inflated dome that provides the most comfortable and memorable camping experience we've ever come across -- very comfortable beds and enchanting views of the stars over head (even a mini toilet and electricity for lights! Definitely worth experiencing.

The service is consistently excellent - the staff are genuine, warm and incredibly helpful. There is a smile at every turn, and you feel truly welcomed and treasured as a guest.

We have tried several similar family resorts (for example in Calabogie and Jouvence), as well as Club Meds, but this tops them all in terms of quality, value and providing for an ideal family escape sure to please kids and parents alike.

Le Village Windigo is hospitality and escape at its very best ... I recommend it without reservation!

We've travelled here twice now, and had the opportunity to compare the resort to a similar property nearby in Quebec - Windigo compared very favourably for us. It's a bit of a trek - with the last 20 min is on a windy undulating road that badly needs repaving, but it's worth it when you arrive.

The resort consists of a handful of condo suites and well appointed private cabins in a mini-village. We've stayed in the same waterfront cabin both years - and would happily return. With a large group, it's nice that each bedroom has it's own full bathroom. The rooms and equipment are kept clean and well maintained. The one time we had an issue with our dishwasher, staff remedied the problem within hours. Towels and linens are all very clean, and staff drop by daily to check on you and provide fresh linens/towels/toiletries or anything else you might need.

All cabins are a short walk from the common beach and reception area. Near the reception area, there is a well appointed games room, tennis courts and the small restaurant. There is also a large selection of DVDs that you can borrow to watch in your suite/cabin. Staff seem very eager to do what they can to make your stay more enjoyable. For both of our stays, there were no guests arriving the day of our departure, and staff provided us with a later checkout at no charge.

The beach is kept clean and groomed, with ample lounge chairs and umbrellas, a volleyball court and a fire pit which staff will start for you during the evenings. The swimming area is relatively small, though there are several canoes, kayaks and paddle boats that can be borrowed for exploring. We never had any trouble getting boats - though that may be different at more crowded times. All of the boats are operable, though some of the kayaks are in need of repairs.

Windigo is located a small bay off of the Baskatong Reservoir - a very large man-made lake. The small bay provides a calm area for novice boaters to explore with the without having to deal with the large waves that sometimes occur on the main lake when the wind picks up. Just around the corner from the resort is a beautiful secluded beach that's perfect for swimming or wading on the soft sandy bottom (nicer than the Windigo beach). It is a 10-15 minute canoe/kayak from Windigo's main beach and well marked on the area maps.

There are plenty of biking/hiking trails around the area. The resort has a handful of bikes that can be borrowed, though they are in very poor condition, so bring your own if you intend to bike. You can also rent ATVs at a cost.

There is a waterfall on some smooth rocks nearby ('chute windigo') that is worth checking out, though slide down at your own risk. The rocks are very slippery, and accident could result in serious injury.

Our main negative is the cost. At full price, it is close to triple the cost of a private cottage rental in the area. You definitely do get some benefits for the large premium (easy reservations, reliably maintained cabins, helpful staff, facilities), though our group questions that these are worth such a steep premium. We will no doubt return if there are discounts offered for non-peak times (as was the case for our first visit), but will likely look more at closely at private cottage rentals next time.

I will never return to this place as the phone receptionist was rude, the food was a disappointment, the rate is high for the quality and the way they dealt with the fees was dishonest. When I called to enquire about availability, the receptionist was impatient, when i felt ill they did not even allow change of date, then they overcharged us and failed to reimburse. The rooms were nice but unfortunately our experience was compromised by these unpleasant factors...

Dear customer, It is never a pleasure to read such an experience for an hotel owner. Following the information that I can get, at the time of your booking, they were no beachside condo left. You made a booking for a forest side condo with an option for a beachside condo if one will become available . You asked to cancell your reservation but our cancell policy during Christmas and New Year holidays does not allowed such. As you request at your booking, we moved you to a beachside condo with a better view hoping to fullfill your request. The charge is of course different. And you criticize the overcharge. I can understand that you might be upset because we refused your cancellation but it is definitely not a reason to criticize the service you get. Marc

As always, my family and I had a great time at Le Village Windego. The cottage was perfect. My son and I enjoyed Kayaking the lake. The kids loved every moment by the lake. We left two coats and we were contacted the following day. The price may not be for everyone but getting away from a city, this is a perfect place. The walkway heading to the lake needs a tune up with some of the fence down and broken lights but a very minor thing. If you like hiking, thereis so much to see in the area.
