What an amazing resort. So much to do on site. Highly recommend the jade river and cenote for amazing snorkeling fun. Loved the tree planting and parrots. So many spider monkeys and coatis. We had Alverto, one of tour guests at the resort give us an amazing tour of the Mayan ruins on property. Also shout out to Carlos for the awesome towel animals everyday in our room. Food was hit or miss at restaurants and buffets. Riveria restaurant on the beach was our favorite especially the creme brûlée. We had an eco superior room and loved it. We had building 24 which is near the smaller pool and water park. My teen loved the slides. We saw a lot of monkeys each morning. The beach is pretty but rocky and mossy so water shoes are a necessity. We had no issues getting sick but were diligent about only drinking and using the water from the bubbler. All the water and ice is purified in the bars and restaurants. No bottled water here due to eco resort so bring a water bottle. Refrigerator was stocked each day with pop and beer. Welcomed with a bottle of champagne, fruit and tequila. Beds were comfy and pillows very nice. This is a huge resort and will take a few days to get your bearings. Concierge was awesome and even set up a birthday cake delivery to the room for my teen. Amstar Apple rep was awesome making sure we were all set with excursions and arrangements back to airport. Main pool was always very busy so we enjoyed the rear pool more quiet. Lady Gaga show was off the hook, she looked and sounded really like her. Fire show on Saturday was so so, get there 45 min early for a good seat to see. Again big kudos to Alverto for taking time with us to teach us the Mayan culture and share stories during our on site tours. Enjoyed our 6 days here so much we will definitely be returning some day.

This was our third trip to this resort and we have loved Sandos Caracol. However, this trip was not the same. There were aspects that we still loved, such as the beautiful scenery, nature, the animals, and the Mayan dances. However, covid has made the experience less than desirable. The ala carte restaurants no longer have menus for you to look over, you must carry your cell phone with you and scan a QR code, which never worked on my cheap phone, and then try to decide from their limited menu. One worker had comment the reason for the change to no menus was "because we are an eco resort". I'm calling BS on that because you guys already had the menus at one time so keeping them would not have harmed the environment in any way. Plus the number of disposable face masks littering this resort was upsetting (no, I do not hold Sandos Caracol responsible for this as it is ignorant people littering and stupid government mandating masks), but the irony is apparent. Please bring back your menus, some of us are not glued to our cell phones and really don't like having to have them with us constantly. Secondly, the staff is great but due to restrictions or whatever reason, service was slower than ever before. We stay at the royal elite and to get anything from room service (which is one reason we chose to pay the extra to go through royal elite) takes over 90 minutes. It isn't even worth it to order room service. My kids fell asleep before their food ever got here. And my last complaint is just the constant BS mask rules drove us crazy. So while in the main pool, they had entertainment staff, which were great, would be putting on aqua aerobics and everyone is close and no masks (which I appreciated) but then to sit and watch the Mayan show outdoors they were mandating we wore masks. It was idiotic and nonsensical. The very fact that we were expected to carry a mask everywhere we went really put such an annoyance and inconvenience to the whole trip.
Customer service used to be so much better and I pray it returns because this trip was not at all the same experience, and yes, I get it... We went during an alleged pandemic. But what ever happened to personal responsibility for one's own health? When I go on vacation, I'm wanting to escape the stressors of the world not be entrenched in them.
Please return to normalcy as soon as your local government allows you to because you guys used to be so much better.

Dear VanessaH761, Thank you for your comment, we will take them into consideration to improve our service anf facilities. According to the new regulations, we had to create QR codes with all the resort's information and menus of all the restaurants and activities in order to avoid possible sources of contamination. We stillhave traditional menus for exceptional situations and we use them when necessary with all the higiene precautions. We need to follow the updated guidelines established by the government, that is why we kindly ask our guests to wear face masks at the restaurants and at the theatre, and, to participate to certain activities and Spa services we ask to make previous reservations. We are all looking for this situation to change soon and be able to give our guest a stressfree holiday! We hope to have the chance to receive you again in the future and serve you as you deserve. Regards. Giovanna Barbieri Quality Manager

We traveled the beginning of December with Grandparents, parents and 4 year old twins. We all enjoyed the week we were there.
We stayed in the standard rooms and had no issues whatsoever. I contacted the hotel in advance and they placed us all in the same building as I had requested. The king bed rooms have a large whirlpool tub and the two queen beds do not. Our rooms were always cleaned thoroughly and restocked with towels, coffee and toiletries.. I won't comment on the food because that is subjective but there was enough variety at the breakfast buffets. (The buffet can back up because the food is served in two long lines rather than having scattered stations.).Aside from the popular Mediterranean restaurant, we had no issue with waiting in line (we usually went around 6:00).
Two very nice things about this resort are: no towel cards and your room keys are on your wristband.. No last minute digging through the bags to see if you have them when you leave in the morning. In addition, the grounds are beautiful and the wildlife plentiful. It would take us 25 minutes to walk to breakfast because of the monkeys and other animals we would see along the way. The discussion at breakfast was where to go first: the pool. beach or water slides. Chaise lounges were always plentiful no matter the decision.
There really is so much to do in the resort. Swimming in the Cenotes and snorkeling in the Jade River were definitely unique experiences.

Thank you to Francisco at El templo for being welcoming and entertaining.
Thank you to all the young men working at the kids pool. They kept everyone safe while enjoying the slides.
Thank to the ladies whom braided my daughter and my hair with such care.
Thank you to the two men at the activities sign up table for their expertise and knowledge of the culture.
The rooms have been upgrades with tiles and designs 👌

I would definitely give a 5 🌟 if the smaller ponds leading to the sport area and kids area are better taken care of. I understand its in the middle of mangroves and such but it just smells worst then my first visit. Maybe a better filtration system so that mosquitoes don't gather.

2nd
I see that menus are catering to vegans but can you spunk it up a little more? And making sure these meals don't come in contact with meat products?

3rd
Please encourage people to properly shower before entering the beautiful cenote. I was not told to shower but I did as to prevent from adding any chemicals (hair gel, perfume, mosquito spray, etc.)to the cenote.

I will continue to visit and hope these suggestions can help you improve further. I wouldn't want this special place to ever close. thank you!!!!

This was our third time of visiting this hotel, we made this choice as we had been really pleased with the standards of service, facilities, etc that we had experienced in previous times. We stayed for three weeks this time round and our first impression this time round was not favourable although by the time we left we had become somewhat more used to the changes and what was on offer.
Initially our room was not fully prepared when we arrived and it took two days to get even minor issues resolved. It was only the intervention of the TUI representative that seemed to get the team rolling. The other major irritation was the fact there were a greater number of North American and Canadian guests than in previous visits and the noise levels in the eating places was subsequently much greater. Also, there was a greater leaning towards the US and Canada cuisine in the main buffet restaurant, which does not necessarily suit the European pallet.
However, the food on offer was excellent, using main the buffet we found the dishes generally of a high standard. We also used the Steak House and Brazilian restaurants, both of which served excellent quality food. We were booked into the “Select” area so were able to use the La Jungla restaurant for lunches. The food here was excellent and whilst this is generally “a la carte” on several occasions this was set up for buffet service which again was top quality. The team in the La Jungla restaurant were all really good, helpful, friendly and polite. Some names that I can remember from La Jungla were Victor, Damien, Enrique, Nelson, all good guys but so were all the others.
The rooms are really spacious (Select) and once our issues were resolved kept in good order by the housekeeping team. The concierge services were also very helpful and my thanks go out to Veronica who went out of her way to help celebrate my wife’s birthday while we were there.
This resort has a lot to offer, it is very big with many eating outlets, swimming pools and ranges of activities on offer. It is great for families with lots of offer for children. Staff are all very friendly and seemed to value their guests. The hotel majors on it’s ethos of an ECO-Resort and for those that have never been it has lots of native jungle on site and many species of wild life, monkeys, mpache, coati, agouti, iguanas, etc. There are also lots of activities centred around the eco theme as well as those celebrating the Mayan heritage of the area.
Negatives – some of the outside areas are looking a bit tired and could do with a tidy up. Especially the pool surrounds in the adults only area. Not the place to go for a quiet holiday.
In summary, this is a hotel that is great for families and those who enjoy being amongst nature and it’s wild life. Great people, great food, great bar service, very good evening entertainment, lovely size rooms and associated facilities.

This resort was awesome. The staff are awesome. The resort uses the bracelet room keys which is awesome so you are not digging in your stuff to get a card, you just put your hand against the door and it unlocks. Its a nice touch and i hope more resorts follow suit. Definitely choose a room facing the rain forest side. We had monkeys on our balcony and one even ate a banana out of my boyfriends hand. It was pretty amazing to be so close to the animals. The restaurants were not all open when we went because there were some under renovations. There is a professional photographer that walks around the resort which was kind of cool to get some fun photos but they were not cheap. Bring lots of ones for tips but i would suggest using a credit card of some sort to pay for anything extra, (excursions/souvenirs) . They charge the card in pesos and then the bank converts it. Otherwise, you would need to use american money and they don't give you the correct change back, they end up giving you pesos back in change.
I would definitely consider going back to this resort.

We have stayed here several times in the past, always in the Select Club. Typically we get the separate select club check in but once we had to stand in line at the main place. Sometimes service is lacking, we aim to stay 5 nights or less and then move elsewhere so as to not get too frustrated with any resort option. Select club is basically access to another pool that is supposed to be adults only, and access to a nice little bar and special area down at the beach. You also get sit-down lunch at the restaurant next to that pool, and room service from a very limited menu. If select club is a small upgrade like $30 for the trip it’s well worth it but keep shopping around if it’s a bigger price jump.

I’m writing the review to point out that this resort is huge, many acres of walking paths and natural kind of settings. If you enjoy long nature walks this is absolutely a stand out resort for the area. The mangrove and some other areas stink at times, I truly believe they’re dumping sewage into it somewhere but people claim it’s a natural smell. When they’re stinky you just don’t wander through those trails. There’s a lot of mosquitos but repellent dispensers are conveniently located. We have seen a ton of wildlife here and even found ourselves lost on the trails with nobody around but a pack of monkeys! This resort feels special due to the many acres. The food used to be really good, but sounds like it has gone downhill. The beach was pretty but lots of waves and we did not find snorkeling to be very good at this beach, but the large cenote is neat. We are overdue for another visit and hope service goes smoothly. They need to have someone doing a comprehensive check of each room before assigning people- more than once there has been a plumping issue, either broken toilet, clogged drains or no hot water... sometimes the AC doesn’t work or a lamp needs a new bulb, or patio door doesn’t lock. Review ratings would improve if they just had someone competent verifying these issues before assigning rooms.

We have two children, almost 2 and almost 4, they absolutely LOVED the water park and the kids centre, Sanditos. The ladies there made them feel welcomed and loved, we went there daily our second week and played with their climbing equipment. Cynthia is so cute, she reminded us of a Disney Princess. They also have a vast collection of Disney movies the kids can watch in their little movie theatre. The centre alone is enough reason for us to make a repeat visit down the road.

The food was great and the portion make you waste less which is really great. The Lady Gaga show was superb, she was spot on. The staff was all very friendly and happy to accommodate, and room service was perfect for when the kids needed to nap over lunch.

The pools were always very clean, the staff did a great job cleaning the little bits of seaweed that washed up off the beach every day.

It was the start of the rainy season, but it barely rained. My only suggestion is to 100% wear bug spray, it is the jungle. But then the mosquitos will leave you alone.

Lots of wild life; spider monkeys, iguanas, raccoons, coaties, turtles and cats. They also have a petting zoo which we visited twice! They give you lettuce and other veggies to feed their rescue animals that are all very sweet.

You can swim in their natural ponds (with a guide), we did not as our children are too young, but everyone said they are very refreshing.

Booked the adult only section with my husband. The rooms are near lobby, a nice walking distance to retaurants, shops and entertainment. Room was disappointing as it looked like a cheap motel room,, absolutely no frills. It was quite bland bit I guess you spend most of your time outdoors so it was easy enough to get over. Beds were a bit too firm and pillows were a mismatch of large and small and quite uncomfotable. Food at buffets was plentiful and good quality. I tried to sample a bit of everything over the week, you will not go hungry. For the a la cartes there are no reservations just line ups. Please don't waste your time at the Italian as you will leave very unsatisfied. Los Lirios and Brazilian were by far the better choices of you want a sit down dinner. Adult section pool was large enough, nice little restaurant beside pool to eat all your meals if you choose. No entertaiment at this pool it is extremely quiet. There is a hot tub/jacuzzi pool, tepid at bet not remotely hot. Grounds are beautiful, lots of paths to explore. It's a good sized resort bit not as big as you may think when you look at the map. Beach is narrow and very rocky so bring water shoes. I didnt mind the rocks but some people do. Adult section of beach is furthest from adult section rooms bit once you get the lay of the land it's not as far as it seems. Enough sunbeds and shade provided. Yes you will see children on the beach on front of you as the beach is public, bit they do not hang out in the adult seating area nor restaurants so so don't fret if you see some frolicking in the sand. Lots of vendors walk through beach area. A simple no and they keep moving on. "CUSTOMER SERVICE" not!!! Beware they are TIMESHARE representatives that call you everymorning at 815am and leave notes on your door that you have yet to come and get your free gift. 815am phone calls are not ok so we took the phone to reception and kindly asked them to keep the phone out of the room until we leave because Customer Service is harassing us. My husband then approached Customer Service and sternly but kindly let them know that harassing vacationers is a horrible business model.other than that our stay at Sandos was really good. Service staff in all areas was great, food was really good and the weather was wonderful. Please update your rooms Sandos, they are bleak and depressing and uninviting. At least paint the walls!

A good family-oriented resort. Very kid friendly - lots of things onsite to keep kids entertained such as the water park, kids club, cenote, areas to explore. All the greenery and natural surroundings are very beautiful and make it seem less “resort”-like in terms of the feel and look. Food in general was fine. The buffets were standard, with lots of variety; our personal tastes enjoyed the Mexican and Japanese restaurants the best. We stayed in the eco family room with the bunk beds and a king, which was a perfect size for a family of 4 with young kids (7&5). There was ample staffing to ensure wait times for anything was minimal. Karina at the Concierge was particularly attentive to us when our son required medical attention during and afterwards. Malena at the reception was also very nice upon check out.
