Overall I would say this was a good place to visit. We arrived about 3 hours before we could check in so we went to the beach. At first we were disappointed with the beach. It's not very big, rocky, and seaweed laying around. There were also big barriers laying in the water, I believe to break the waves so they wouldn't wash the beach away more than it is. A little girl that was in our group stepped on what was believed to be a sea urchin and had to have slivers removed from the bottom of her foot. We walked about 1/4 mile down the beach and found a great spot for the kids to play in. Nice sand for building sand animals and good spot to enjoy some waves. The kids also enjoyed the kids pool area, but they didn't spend a lot of time there.

Rooms- Rooms were decent. The beds were a bit hard for our taste but weren't terrible. The jet tubs are huge and our family loved sitting in them to relax in the early morning, however they take quite awhile to fill up.

Food- Buffets were like most buffets at all inclusive resorts. Not spectacular and you are ready to eat American food again after about four days, but everyone in our group had no issues with them and found plenty to choose from. We had two meals at the specialty restaurants and we choose the Brazilian and Japanese (Hibachi). The food was great at both. The Hibachi is always fun to watch them prepare and the overall service at the Brazilian was nothing short of spectacular!

Wildlife- Being an Eco resort they try to keep it as natural as possible. We saw plenty of lizards (iguanas and anoles) throughout the trip. We also saw raccoons, coati's, and domestic (rescued) cats that come into food areas looking for food, but they aren't a big nuisance. We also saw some monkeys cruising the trees occasionally, and got some great pictures of some that came down to the ground to eat some plant leaves right beside us. On top of that they have deer, donkeys, dogs, and parrots enclosed around the area as well.

Service- This resort has an amazing staff! Wait staff are polite and always making there rounds to clear plates and refilling drinks. The cleaning staff were also polite, do a great job cleaning rooms and entertained our kids with their great towel animals.

Entertainment- We went to their shows every night. The shows this resort puts on are phenomenal!! We watched two shows on a story of a Mayan legend, a Super Heroes show, Disney show (which our daughter helped out in and loved it!) and then the Michael Jackson show which was fantastic! After each show you can take pictures with the entertainers which our kids loved. They also have an Eco tour everyday at 10:30 am. The tour is different everyday as you can learn about the land, cenote's, wildlife, pyramids and such. The tour guide Naomi was a great guide. She was very knowledgeable about the area and culture and is exceptional with children. Naomi is a fantastic guide and makes the tour worth while. Our kids really enjoyed her and learned a lot. They also have a kids club that you can drop the kids off for awhile, and enjoy some adult time. Our kids wanted to go hang out here a few times and seemed to always have a blast playing and enjoying the activities.
Overall we had a great trip! Our disappointment with the beach faded away throughout the week, as there were so many other things that we enjoyed.

I stayed at Sandos Caracol from April 3 to April 8 and the entire time was enjoyable. When we arrived around noon on Friday we were greeted with smiles and drinks and even though our room wasn't ready until 3 we were able to go to the beach while the employees held our suitcases before taking them to our room. The beach was beautiful, rocky in places but what do you expect in the ocean? The sand bags were also nice to have there and they were fun to walk on and take pictures as long as you watch your step! But again, not the resort's fault. There were plenty of great lounge chairs on the beach and the pools were of high quality too.
Every employee and bartender was very kind and the entertainment staff was outstanding! Some of the shows at night I wouldn't say were very high quality but with a few drinks they were entertaining. Although the Michael Jackson show was quite well done! The food was delicious and the 24 hour snack and drink bar were great.
The rooms were also very nice. The tiled floors were beautiful and every room has a small balcony with some kind of a view (ours was a little jungle area which was still nice!). The complimentary safes were very convenient and the bathrooms were of very high quality too. Most of the television stations were in Spanish but hey, you're in Mexico, you shouldn't be watching too much TV anyway! Lastly, in my group of 13 people, I was the only one who got any bug bites so I wouldn't say the bugs are very bad. I'd expect bugs anyway so I'm not complaining that I got any bites.
Overall I think this resort is fantastic! Every employee is kind and willing to make your stay the best it can be and the service is incredible. The pools are clean and the food is tasty. I'm definitely coming back and I definitely recommend this resort!

This resort is one of the worst i have ever encountered, yes we did know it was ECO but thought it would be CLEAN and they would make sure their guests were CATERED FOR. the rooms building 46 was DREADFUL the furniture was dirty and sofa all burst the floor was filthy. We asked to be moved 3 rooms, they eventually moved us third day only to put us in same type rooms only difference they had been painted. THESE ROOMS ARE NOT DELUXE. Childrens dirty nappys lying on ground for 8 hours nobody picked it up although the person that put it there needs a lesson in hygene. There is no air conditioning in public areas only a few fans in sports bar, which is filthy. The international resturant is filthy tables and floor need good wash. The food was presented well and would have tasted nice had it been hot.The Italian had no air conditioning and we could only suffer the heat to have main course which was lovely before leaving. we ate in the steak house but found it hard second week as we couldnt reserve table because we were not in the SELECT AREA. At the pool we constantly couldnt get BEACH TOWELS for up to 4 HOURS as they didnt have them at pool bar. THEN THE ANIMALS well this place STINKS all day every day. They roam about everywhere in bars while youre having a drink or resturants where your eating. There is constantly animal droppings on paths which are very rarely cleaned. THE STAFF Well they make all the right noises to your face then ignore everything thats been said. I asked to speak with the manager on 4 occassions only to be told he was in meetings he was off or wasnt in until afternoon. when i asked for an appointment i was told he would contact me IM STILL WAITING. I would never ever go back to this resort. I travelled with my husband and 7 family members.

Dear Patricia P, We are sorry to read of the poor impression you seem to have with respect to our hotel, the services and the staff. We would like to apologize as I can see that we fell short of your overall expectations. We find it odd you did not notice the air conditioning in our restaurants, as the buffets, as also 3 of our A la cartes are air conditioned (and only 1 of the 6 requires a reservation); the rest of them being by the sea or pool. We are indeed working as we write with intense training for our staff. While we know that the vast majority of our customers have a quite different opinion about our hotel with respect to yours, I can assure you that we will keep working hard to further improve our hotel services and facilities. Thanks for your time. Rest assured that we will give the utmost consideration to your constructive criticisms. Kindest wishes, The Management Sandos Caracol Eco Resort webrelations.caracol@sandos.com

Pros: Great, friendly and helpful staff. They make an honest attempt at speaking English (and most are fluent) At worst, use your cell phone's translate app. Gorgeous lighting at night. Great variety of restaurants, solid buffet. Clean and well tended. Great beds (VERY firm, but I slept like a baby the whole time). Not adults-only, but they do such a great job with the kids that it almost feels adult-only. Select Club is recommended, and the Select pool is fantastic. Bartender Roy is just magic with drinks. Well laid out. Short trip to the beach. Never saw or heard a timeshare salesperson the whole time there. Monkeys are awesome. Lot of activities on-site (10 days should be your minimum). Cool shows (the Michael Jackson show is much less of a guilty pleasure than the real thing). "Eco" aspect is a cute way to differentiate from the other pleasure palaces that dot the coast, but still feels just as luxurious.

Cons: Drinks are watered down to the point of uselessness (on the upside, never saw anyone over-served). Some of the more popular restaurants could really use a reservation system (Los Lirios and La Riviera in particular). Would like to see Mayan shows outside rather than theatre. Cenote and restaurants are often closed for weddings, with no schedule as to when. Absolutely not the resort's fault, but beach is quite rocky. Water shoes are worth their weight in gold.
