My husband I Have been going to MVNGata for the last year and absolutely love the Food, Service and the Staff and let’s not forget the beautiful roof-top Swimming pool it has a breathless ocean view. Along with the Amazing massages with Angelica, Sandra and Claudia. I would highly recommend the MVNGata. As for my husband and I we frequent travel to Playa at least twice a month and always look forward to our massages, food, swimming and cocktails. If you have any questions contact (Damari) she is an amazing person of contact especially for the massages and Ricardo is our favorite server so make sure to ask for him.😉 I Love the MVNGATA Owner, Chef and Staff.

My husband & I got a great massage here. We took advantage of a special for a 1 hour massage for only $20usd per person & the service & massage from Angelica & Daisy was soooo good! In fact, we went back a few days later & had massages from Angelica & Juana. They were extremely nice & very professional. Thanks ladies! If you go, be sure to ask for Angelica!

WOW! Wow all around with no exceptions! My boyfriend and I couldn’t stop being wowed here. From the moment we walked in we were greeted so nicely and served a lovely fresh juice. The hotel is just absolutely stunning, our bedroom was dreamy, every single staff member is so extremely pleasant and helpful it’s amazing the quality of service here. Bed is great, amazing sheets and towels, turn down service was a great extra touch to our stay. FOOD, OMG! Chef Omar deserves a Michelin Star, we went to a few places between playa and Cozumel for food, great foods all around the area but nothing, absolutely nothing compared to the food at Mvngata, from a simple, or so I thought a simple late night club sandwich, exceptional his twist on it. The most amazing picanha baguette sandwich, I’m Brazilian and picanha is our specialty but chef Omar nailed it to perfection as it was the absolute best picanha sandwich I’ve ever had, not to mention our amazing snapper, fresh tuna tostadas and the most delicious mashed potato, that won my boyfriend over when he doesn’t even like mashed potatoes!! Now to the waitstaff, first off Laura, the incredible manager/RH here, she is the nicest and so attentive to what’s happening, lovely meeting her. We had some great waitstaff including, Carlos,
who attended to us at the beach, he brought us over our amazing lunch, dessert and drinks, very very attentive, kind and helpful all around. Mvngata is the place to stay at Playa. We will definitely be back and recommend to all our family and friends! Thank you for the best Mexican vacation Mvngata and staff!

Let me start with how amazing their service is!
Upon arrival, my boyfriend and I were greeted by everyone that crossed our path. Both Juan Carlos and Richard have superior customer services that I am writing this the moment I left the restaurant.
They ensured everything was perfect. They consistently checked up on us without being overbearing.
Atmosphere (dinner): it was windy and raining this we ended up opting for the inside. However we still had a beautiful very of the pool and palm trees. Ambiance was romantic with a light jar center piece. Overall, it was calm, relaxing, and lovely.
We started off with the Mixed Tangerine Ceviche accompanied with tortilla chips and a habanero/serrano hot sauce: very light and refreshing.
Main courses
Seafood Risotto: topped with a light cheese foam to before insinuating into a packed tastebud blasting flavor from the risotto.
Tagliatelle: very creamy and less of a flavor burst but very delicious especially with the mushroom.
Dessert:
Churros: fresh and crispy yet fluffy on the inside. The perfect texture with not an overwhelming amount of cinnamon sugar.
Drinks:
Two of their house mezcal mixed drinks, refreshing. One in passion fruit and the other, mango. I personally preferred the mango however.
I would come here again and I plan to. Def decent pricing for amazing service and place! Not all are picture but hope it helps you plan your trip here.

We were there for our last night in Mexico last november. We were staying just next door… at the Fives Beach Hotel and Residences. Mvngata Hotel and Boutique is a 2 minutes walk by the beach. Our Mexican real estate agent told us It was the best restaurant around. I really can say It was nothing less than a spectacular experience. We told the Chef we liked everything so he did put up a real feast. I have to say this is the best dinner me and my wife had since we have been travelling to Mexico (over 25 times). We had the chance to meet the owner on that night. We told him how amazing his place was. He was so welcoming. I will be back this March in solo this time and I will go back to Mvngata. If you travel to the Riviera maya, you must go to this fabulous restaurant and discover on the way their Boutique hotel. The staff there is ++++. This is the place to discover … having a unique dinner overlooking the sea on the rooftop. Thanks so much for the great experience and see you in about 10 days.

Our family stayed at MVNGATA hotel and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The staff were really friendly and committed to making our experience a great one.
Guest services checked in with us the day before we arrived and asked what the purpose of our trip was and if we were celebrating a special occasion. We came for a wedding but we also happened to be celebrating our 8 year engagement anniversary. When we arrived our room was setup with complimentary sparkling wine and an elegant fruit plate. It was a really nice touch.
The food at both restaurants was really tasty. As a vegan I was happy to see some good plant based / vegan options including tofu scramble, chilaquiles with tofu (without sour cream and cheese), veggie burger, and cauliflower tempura tacos. They were very accommodating when it came to food preferences - removing spice for our daughter, orange juice in a wine glass, etc.
The rooftop restaurant has a really nice vibe and great for dinners with a view (beautiful sunsets). Adan was our server most nights and his service was top notch. Not only did he coordinate with the kitchen to make something off menu but he was so good at entertaining our daughter - taking her around the table in her high chair. Thank you for everything Adan! There’s also live music during breakfast / brunch and on the rooftop on certain days.
The beach is on the rocky side but you can find a pre swimmable area within a 5 min walk. There’s also a heated pool before the beach area (kids allowed) and a pool on the rooftop (no kids allowed in the rooftop pool).
Overall would highly recommend MVNGATA for couples or families.

We spent a lovely day at Mvngata Beach Club recently and loved all of it. The swimming pool is good enough to spent hours in it while having some drinks, there are plenty of beds and hammocks on the shore, some swings... The kind of place Instagram people would love to show.
The beach in front of the hotel has rocks, so you cannot swim right in there, but there are other beach areas within walking distance... and honestly, we didn't miss the beach at all.
There's also a roof terrace with views and a small pool.
The food and drinks are good too, and the staff are very helpful. I wanted something with coconut that wasn't the usual Piña colada, and they prepared a coco loco for me.
They also have offers and events every now and then, so it's worth following them on social media.

The atmosphere is lovely, the food….not so much. Only 1 menu in English for a table of 6. The servers failed to mention that the left side of the menu is lunch and the right side dinner. Food was just OK and prices were high.

Let me say this...if you don't come here you are making a big mistake! I lived in playa del carmen for a month and this was our first stop of many after being suggested by a friend and I was not disappointed at all! This is our go to place for my wife and I when we were in playa del carmen. We left to go to Merida for a month and this was our first stop as soon as we got back. It literally feels like you are part of a family here. As soon as we got in everyone greeted us like we never left. BRENDA the manager is amazing. I honestly feel like I have known her for a lifetime. She is extremely sweet and makes sure you have everything you could possibly need. SHE DESERVES A RAISE!!! Ricky and Alejandro were also very helpful and incredibly friendly. You can't go wrong with this place trust me. The rooftop pool is amazing and the downstairs beach club with the pool is perfect as well. Do yourself a favor and make sure you come eat and drink until you can't take any more.

This place is going downhills!!
Please, I hope this review will be read by the owners and they take some action and do something about it.
For the last 2-3 years my frustration and disappointment has grown more and more every time I visit it (which it happens less and less.
It used to be my favorite place to hang out with family and friends, and I know for a fact that it was the same for my neighbors too (I live 5 minutes away) . Not anymore. .
It’s such a shame cause it has the most amazing views in Playa del Carmen.
What has gone wrong with this place?
Customer service, starting from management. I miss those days when the manager used to come to welcome us with a BIG smile in his face, Mr. Antonio (I think it was his name ) he used to visit the tables and ask if everything was good.
Waiters were happy and motivated to work there , I used to know everyone but so many left because of poor management and changes of policies.
What else is wrong? Prices have gone to the roof and food portions got smaller and smaller, and so often you have to wait a long time to finally see food coming. It’s gotten everything so so slow.
Maintenance in general has gone down too. Not as clean as it used to be,
Lastly, a few days ago my brother tried the day pass , just to find out that price has gone up to now $1,000 minimum,but they couldn’t use the lounge chairs at the very front because they are “just for guests” even though they were empty most of them , they had no towels to offer them, and the new policy is that if you don’t finish the credit by 6 pm, you can’t go up to the rooftop and carry on this credit. Ridiculous!! They arrive at 2:30 pm!!
Lastly, I wish they had more food choices and special promotions that could get people excited about giving a try .
I know my family, friends and neighbors are no longer interested in going back to this place and I think I will join them too.
What a shame !! It was a jewel in PDC!

Being able to travel the world and experience wonderful things and places the best view I ever had from the ocean has been here at Mvngata Rooftop!! To experience the breeze of the Caribbean and having a great service and warmth by the wonderful crew you will feel at home in paradise.
Having an amazing view to the ocean, moon and stars, you will see so many you will ran out of wishes. The live music events will make you dance with joy and excitement.
It’s an experience you can’t missed! Thank you Mvngata Rooftop!

My sister and I had lovely massages with Claudia and Patrick last week! We were staying at a nearby resort and Claudia came by to offer us massages. Our parents had massages with her a couple days earlier and really enjoyed theirs so they treated us. Claudia and Patrick were so friendly and kind and they gave us wonderful massages while we listened to the waves down below. I highly recommend getting a massage with Claudia or Patrick to anyone staying at a nearby resort as their prices are much cheaper (less than half) of what the larger resorts charge!

We just spent a delightful week at Mungata.
When we travel anymore we pretty much stick to smaller boutique type hotels and have been to several good ones in the Playa del Carmen and “Riviera Maya” area multiple times in the last 15 years.
Places like Zoetry, Belmond Maroma and others.
We wanted to try something new and different this trip and our daughter found Mungata for us when she was researching.
It’s fairly new which is why we probably hadn’t heard of it before but having read through many of the reviews it looked interesting enough to try. There’s not much point in going through everything that has been mentioned already in the many, many laudatory reviews here. Basically it’s all true!
Everyone is fantastic there.
I would love to give credit to everyone individually but don’t have all the names but will try to give kudos to as many as possible, although to a person everyone working there deserves credit.
Julio and Arturo at the front desk; Kin and Jorge (facilitators/butlers/customer service); in the rooftop restaurant and bar-Daniel, Angel, Reyes and JC! at your service with a SMILE; Alex the night housekeeper; Caesar from room service; beach servers extraordinare Carlos, Nefi and Antonio; an amazing team of massage therapists but especially the two we had twice, Sandra and Daniel (we own a 5 star spa ourselves so know talent when we experience it!) ; and last but especially not least, Mario, the owner, who seemed to be everywhere all the time (discreetly in the background), ever present and greeting and getting to know all guests and quietly overseeing all aspects of a 5 star resort!
Apparently Mungata is a Scandinavian word meaning “moonlight shining off the water” which we got to experience as in the attached photo!
We feel confident in recommending Mungata without hesitation!

We stayed 8 days in the hotel and we ate almost 4 times at the rooftop. The food is so delicious, the service is excellent...the waiters are so caring...
Especially Mario, always cheerful,"joie de vivre" Cheers to the others waiters (Luigi...)We highly recommand this restaurant,which was delightful,just as this hotel was.
