🌈 Celebrating #PrideMonth at the GLBT Historical Society! We teamed up with Forward Global, to host an inspiring #Pride Happy Hour at the nation's first LGBTQ+ history and culture museum, home to the original 1978 Rainbow Flag. Speakers Roberto Ordeñana with GLBT Historical Society, Imani Rupert-Gordon with NCLR – National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Katie Hultquist with Outright International, highlighted critical issues facing LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.They emphasized the need for intersectionality in the LGBTQ movement to foster community integration and progress, alongside preserving LGBTQ history and combating legislative challenges like the rise in anti-LGBTQ bills. The program concluded with a call to action for increased philanthropic support and inclusive policy-making to ensure equity and justice for all LGBTQ+ individuals globally.

🌍 Reflecting on #WorldRefugeeDay 2024: "Refugees are not numbers and we are nobody's problem; we are supposed to be seen as part of the solution." - Abraham Leno, Executive Director of the Eastern Congo Initiative This year, USA for UNHCR and GPF collaborated on an Impact Roundtable where we discussed solutions, solidarity, and the importance of collaborative projects for supporting refugees.The discussion highlighted the importance of trust, innovative strategies, and collaborative approaches to maximize impact, advocating for the use of local systems and "brain trusts" to drive significant global change for refugees.

We recently partnered with Effective Institutions Project to co-host a workshop with Metaculus, Omidyar Network and P150 on #AI and #philanthropy, convening a diverse group of AI funders, professional forecasters and experts in technology and policy to explore the future impact of AI technologies on society. The workshop fostered collaboration among various stakeholders to devise strategies that incorporate forecasting, quantitative analysis, and collaborative research, aimed at guiding AI toward a positive future. We are excited to to build on these conversations in future partnerships and programs.

To celebrate #PrideMonth we are co-hosting a Pride Happy Hour at the GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco with Forward Global on June 25. We will hear from movement leaders about how donors at every level can make an outsized difference to #LGBTQ communities locally and around the world. In honor of #WorldRefugeeDay on June 20th, we are hosting a Virtual Impact Roundtable on June 21st at 9AM via Zoom. Impact leaders will come together to share stories and examples of creative solutions when assisting the most vulnerable. To conclude our May programming, we co-hosted a program with Network of Engaged International Donors featuring Kristen McGuire from the Global Fund for Women, Johnny Tohme from the Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism, Stanislava Stancheva from The Christensen Fund and Sara Lomelin, CEO of Philanthropy Together. The conversation focused on the power and potential of #collaborative funds, touching on the importance of pooling resources for systemic change, fostering #trust between donors and activists, and prioritizing community voices and #intersectionality in funding decisions.

Inspired by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's influential career as a leading scholar and renowned author of groundbreaking works, "Stamped From the Beginning" and "How to Be An Antiracist," Forward Global and the Global Philanthropy Forum hosted a fireside chat last month at KQED with Dr. Kendi and Jamie Allison, Executive Director of of the Walter & Elise Haas Fund. The conversation stressed the need to address systemic racial injustices and adopt an anti-racist philosophy, while also exploring how #philanthropy can rebuild trust through fostering community self-liberation and sustainable, relationship-driven approaches. Recently, we hosted a dynamic panel session for a cohort of European biotech founders on a “tour” of  #SiliconValley. In partnership with the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), the panel explored “Foundation Funding: How to Assess and Access” with industry innovators: Robin Ann McIntosh with Workit Health Ari Tuchman with Quantifind, Kim K. with Bay Bridge Ventures, moderated by Sarah Gerber Howard. The conversation provided a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that lie at the intersection of #socialimpact, #biotechnology, and #entrepreneurship. I am thrilled to share that the Global Philanthropy Forum (GPF) has brought back year-round programming  in addition to our annual conference. We have hosted 2 programs so far this year, and will continue to build this momentum up to our next annual conference on March 18-20, 2025. Last month we were thrilled to partner with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change for an intimate roundtable dinner with various stakeholders from Meta, Google, Salesforce, Microsoft, Airbnb, and other civil society organizations for a candid, off the record dialogue on how governments, private sector and philanthropists can forge innovative solutions together.
