Nestled close to the majestic Niagara Falls, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Niagara Falls New York garners praise for its scenic location and the welcoming atmosphere created by its friendly staff. Although guests appreciate the cleanliness and the inviting vibe of the well-maintained rooms, some travelers are disappointed by the less-than-comfortable beds and extra charges for parking. While the hotel's service receives high marks for attention to detail, opinions are divided over the value, as additional fees and the lack of certain amenities, like complimentary breakfast, leave some guests feeling the pinch.

We stayed here for a recent weekend visit to Niagara Falls. Even at the height of tourist season, the hotel didn't feel over-crowded. Parking was plentiful, there was little wait at the elevators, and Wi-Fi worked well. Our room was clean and spacious, with a nice view of the river. The Hotel is a short walk from the path leading to Goat Island the Maid of the Mist. Staff was friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

Only negatives: restaurant was expensive for breakfast ($90 for four) with limited menu selections), and it seemed like there was just one luggage cart for the entire hotel.

Two tips for travelers: Leave your car at the hotel and walk to the falls, it's a short 15 minute or so walk, and you avoid the hassle (and expense) of trying to park at the falls. And, eat at the Griffon Gastropub a few miles away (but make a reservation).

Very nice hotel within walking distance of the falls via a riverwalk. Up to date facilities, front desk staff that had no problems doubling as a concierge AND offered us warm cookies upon check in. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Dining room was a tad expensive, but you're in the middle of one of the biggest attractions on the east coast, so it was to be expected. Very nice, well prepared breakfast with ample portions. Overall, great experience.

I dislike the smell of stale cigarettes and the sounds of intoxicated guests plodding through the halls at all hours of the night as much as anyone else; what I dislike even more is paying nearly $300 a night for it. We notified the hotel that we would be checking in a half-hour early, in order to make a dinner reservation an hour away, and were told that it would not be a problem. That was not the case. Despite the hotel not being at capacity, a room was not ready and we got dressed in the bathroom. The manager’s attitude was “oh well, that’s on you,” rather than “how can I make this better.”Upon returning from dinner, we were brought to a room that reeked of stale cigarettes and told that there were no rooms ready, despite it being hours beyond the check-in period. The pandemic has created a difficult situation for businesses and consumers alike; that front desk manager is likely overworked and grossly underpaid. However, as a guest, paying Four Seasons prices for Holiday Inn service is suboptimal. My advice to Hilton: pay your employees more, so that they are not rude to guests. Further, $15 surface parking is an absolute joke, especially when the facility does not offer charging stations for electric vehicle. My advice to fellow travelers: wait until the borders open up and take your patronage elsewhere.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. First, I would like to correct you in stating our hotel is not at capacity - We have been sold out every night for the last 90 days. We try our best to accommodate early check-in's, however it is not always guaranteed and that is why we advise all guests of this. Thank you for your feedback regarding our wages and salary, however we are actually very competitive and we take care of all our employee's very well...However, as a guest we will take your feedback regarding the cigarette smoke (although we are a 100% smoke-free facility), and customer service failures and work to improve in the areas you noted. One final note, every hotel in the Niagara Falls area (including Canada) charge for parking as it is a tourist destination. I am very sorry this was not advised to you prior to booking with us. We thank you for your review and value all our guests opinions and feedback.

If staying on the American side (as we had to due to covid travel restrictions) the location of this hotel is great. One side faces a park/water and the walk to Goat island/ view of the horseshoe falls is not far. But the other side faces an abandoned lot the casino and and some run down houses. The room is standard. Fair amount of space. Pillows were like pancakes and I woke up w neck pain and headache most mornings. Hated the platform beds bumped myself several times on them and could imagine they would be a nightmare for families w small children. Cleanliness was questionable. Rooms likely updated within the past 5 years or so but already beat to hell w chipped furniture and rusted bath fixtures. No housekeeping for the duration of our stay; not certain if directly because of covid or staffing shortage. Shower large, good water pressure and temp. Restaurant mediocre and pricy. We paid four hundred a night which was way overpriced for what we got. Had we gotten two adjoining rooms for our family of 4 we would have paid nearly the same as a stay at the four seasons Orlando in one room which is a ridiculous thought. Also the parking was a nightmare and full every night.

Quick and dirty: good location. Gross rooms. Poor value.

Tip: request odd number room as they face the park as opposed to the casino and decaying town.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review and we will take your feedback and share with the team. We do not have housekeeping stayover service due to COVID but we recently changed our policies to 24 hour in advance notice, and we can service your room. You mentioned the rooms were "gross", but did not mention any cleanliness issues only some furniture chipped. I am sorry your service was not to your liking. We hope you come back when the hotel resumed full service when COVID is over.

I wouldnt stay at this hotel for multiple reasons, but would recommend their restaurant.
We decided to spend our Easter Break here, only to regret it.
We had booked a King room, but upon arriving we were given an accessible room for people with disabilities. Some amenities were missing, such as “a sofa” , and our door was connection to someone elses, where the kids made noise all night.
We spoke to the front desk, where they wouldnt admit it was a mistake but rather:
1) “You didnt use hilton.com for your booking, so in this case we can randomly assign you any room.” - In the future use our official website for your stays.
2) We are dully booked, if u wanna change your room, u need to pack your stuff, check out at 11am and check in again at 4pm.
3) They refused to give us the breakfast coupons even though we had paid for it online and our room rate was inclusive of breakfast, only for a different front desk manager to give it to us at 11pm at night.
4) When we mentioned that we will definitely report/review such rude behaviour. We were told by the lady at the front desk “you can write whatever you want, we dont care, we are fully booked through the summer”
5) The swimming pool is always busy, and they dont adhere to their set rules of 20ppl at any given time.

Dear Kukupaka Thank you for your comments. I apologize that our clerk gave you mis information about your room. You were correct in noting that even though booked through a 3rd party website, the exact room should have been honored (king with sofa, not a handicapped king with oversize bath and no sofa.) I have spoken with our clerks to make sure that they are aware of the requirements of these bookings. In regards to the pool, our capacity is 50% or 50 ppl but was originally limited further to 20 but changed in March. We do attempt to control the capacity on busier weekends but do hope that our guests are more respectful when quieter in adhering to the limits as it is a self service/un guarded pool. I apologize that others made it a not so nice experience. As noted in my other correspondence to you, I have credited your account with some Honors stay points for the room mix up. Again my apologies Cordially, Scott S GM

Spent 4 nights in this hotel. Room was spotless, and large enough to be able to spread out and move around. Bed and pillows very comfy. We didn't use housekeeping, but were able to get what we needed from the staff every morning. Pool and hot tub were clean. Front desk employees friendly and helpful. Do be aware that there is an incidentals charge placed on your card for the length of your stay that could take a few days to clear from your card. Overall, great stay, and would definitely stay again!

I live in New York state, and to be honest, I've never stayed on the US side of Niagara Falls before. Due to Covid restrictions we ended up booking a night here during a last minute get-away. The hotel was great from start to finish. The room we'd checked into wasn't ready upon arrive but the front desk was able to switch us to another, comparable, room so we could get into the room without waiting. We were on the river side in room 803. It had an amazing view of the river and you could see the trail to the state park and falls area. The room and common areas were all very clean and well maintained.

After dropping our things (and fresh chocolate chip cookies from the front desk) in our room we headed out to the casino - only two blocks away. Once the rain had past we headed back to the hotel to grab our jackets and walk to the falls area. It's about a 20 minute walk to the park but it's an easy, flat walk on a paved trail and was very nice.

We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel before ending our stay Sunday morning. The dinner at Parkway Prime was delicious and exceeded our expectations. Everything from the wine and bread service to the chocolate mousse cake and coffee were both visually appealing and delectable. Our server at dinner was also very attentive and pleasant - I wish I had caught her name.

In short, I highly recommend this hotel if you plan to stay in the area and visit the falls.

Our kid got sick on the mattress, after we told the management about it they said they would get to it... 12 hours later nothing had been done. we called again and they came to fix it instead of fixing it they took the whole mattress and won't replace it... didn't even bring new bedding or take away the puked on bedding. when I called about it Casey the manager said there's nothing he can do, he was extremely rude and said it was our fault because people don't normally destroy the bedding. Our hockey tournament won't be returning here though we usually come multiple times a year.

Dear Guest, We did have a separate conversation regarding this incident and although it was not resolved to your satisfaction, the damage done to the mattress needed to be paid for, regardless if it was an accident.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel. All of the staff that we interacted with at the hotel were also super nice and accommodating. My kids enjoyed the pool and the cookies! We are diamond members, so we received $30 per day in food credit which we used to purchase breakfast most mornings. We did not select the buffet, but instead we ordered from the menu and brought the food up to our room to eat. The cost was slightly over the $30 credit they give you, but the food was tasty.

There were just a couple of negatives about the check in process. First, the hotel seemed to have some type of convention or meeting each day of our stay. On our check in day, they were hosting the high school prom, and this left no parking in their lots. Not a single space. We were told we could park in a gravel lot across the street and a bit further down from the hotel entrance, so that is where we had to go. Not really convenient to not have enough parking for all your guests in your paved lots. Second, we received an email to check into our hotel the day before our arrival. We had booked a standard room, but as diamond guests, we were hoping to get an upgrade to a view. When we went to check in on the app, one of the rooms it allowed us to choose was a river view room with a balcony (room 427). We selected this room (even though we had read other reviews that the view from this room is obstructed by heating equipment on the roof), and completed the online check in process. When we arrived, we went to the front desk, and they had unassigned the room we selected in the app and instead put us in a parking lot view room. They did not have any explanation as to why they took the room from us except that someone arriving at the hotel before us must have wanted that room, so they unassigned it from us and assigned it to them instead. I found this to be quite annoying. We asked if there were any upgrades available as diamond members, and they said there was nothing. It just left a bad impression that Hilton wants you to check in on the app and pick your room, but then they just take the room away with no real explanation except that someone else wanted it. Why let us pick it in the first place and get excited about a room with a partial view and a balcony and in the end get a non-view, no balcony room?

In the end, the front desk staff checking us in told us to check back the following day to see if any rooms open up for an upgrade. We did check back the following evening, and we were able to switch rooms to a river view (no balcony). We were happy with our room in the end, but again, it was all just a hassle to not get what you expect after doing the online check in and then having to switch rooms after one night. The staff, especially at the front desk, were so friendly though, so it was hard to be too annoyed. Thanks for a great stay in the end!

Dear Guest, thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review regarding your stay. We are pleased you enjoyed your experience with us overall. We do have a large banquet facility and meeting spaces, so the parking lot can get full at certain times of the day/night. However, we have over-flow parking, and an additional parking lot behind the hotel to accommodate all guests and attendees. We apologize the upgrade was not available, we do try our best to accommodate all Diamond members but sometimes we just don't have any free upgrades. I am glad we were able to move you the next day though, to experience the River view the remainder of your stay.

This is by far the best hotel in every way. I have been coming here since it opened, and am never disappointed. The staff always treats me like family, especially Casey, Caroline and Tom. The lobby and guest rooms continue to look brand new, which tells me that they take very good care of their property. The restaurant has amazing food and amazing staff. The proximity to the boarder is very convenient. There truly is nothing negative about this hotel. I highly recommend this hotel!!
