My partner and I are on the flight back from Barcelona and I decided to write my first review in a while.
This hotel is superb. I sometimes feel that praise is piled on to undeserving places, but this hotel truly is great.
We arrived Friday afternoon and was greeted by Alex at reception who offered us a drink of sparkling wine, fruit juice or water and some fruit while she checked us in. This is a lovely touch. Check in was easy and straight forward. We paid up front in cash for the room and left card details for any extras we may use for the mini bar etc.
We were given room 201 and when we entered the room we were both delighted at how lovely it was. I've read a few reviews on here that say the rooms are tiny, but I think these reviewers are looking for something to complain about. The room we were in had a beautiful high ceiling that was ornately decorated. The decor was modern and clean with all necessary essentials (even a krups machine!) I am actually disappointed we didn't have more time in the city as I was very happy to relax in the room.
Other touches that make this hotel feel special are the robes and slippers offered. There was a vanity kit in the room that included any essentials you may have forgotten, like a toothbrush and tooth paste, razor and shaving foam, a comb and a sewing kit! The small toiletries offered were very nice and didn't seem cheap either, which you often come across in chain hotels. I know these small things seem like they're not worth a mention, but having a job where I travel a lot, I can tell you they are not common place any more. Dotted around the hotel are bowls of fruit and little sweets you can help yourself to.
We can't comment on the restaurant, bar and café available in the hotel, as we spent a lot of time exploring the city so didn't get a chance to sample them. I will say that €18 seems a bit steep for breakfast per person, but then again I don't know what the breakfast was like, so could have been worth it! As we visited in January we didn't brave the plunge pool either, but the terrace is a real sun trap I imagine and quite peaceful considering it's on top of a building on a main road.
The hotel itself is very modern and you are surprised that beautiful place is on such a busy road! I've read reviews on here that complain about noise, but the hotel is ver very quiet. We didn't hear anyone in the corridors, doors slamming, cleaners etc. We also had a balcony that overlooked the entrance to the metro (Urquinaona) which I was slightly worried about, but honestly the doors that lead on to the balcony are so thick they literally cancel out 99% of the noise. Yes you can hear the faint rumble of the metro but honestly it is not bad at all and doesn't run all day and night like some people have said.
This hotel really is 5/5. Location, price, comfort etc. We will most definitely be coming back! Thank you for a really lovely stay.
