The Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana garners mixed reviews, with the hotel's prime beachside location and shuttle services receiving plaudits from numerous guests. However, there's a consensus on the need for improvement in several areas. Overcrowded pools, lackluster service, and outdated rooms with maintenance issues have led to widespread dissatisfaction. While some guests find the grounds well-kept, others are disappointed by the cleanliness and atmosphere, citing a pressing need for refurbishment to enhance the overall experience.

Hotel's Favourite
First I would like to introduce myself that you all could better understand this review.
Me and my family live in Switzerland (country of a very high standard). Furthermore me and my husband we work in one of the top 10 best 5* luxury hotels in Switzerland, meaning we have a great insider’s knowledge about hotels. For this reason, I always put a massive research power into reading guests’ comments here. This helps me to determine the real issues of the resort.
So here is our experience!
I have found this hotel through one of the travel magazines (very popular in Switzerland), the price was extremely good 18 nights for a family of 4, all inclusive, 2000chf equivalent same amount of eur, us dollers. Amazing! That’s the price for 2 nights in our hotel we work.
I have booked vacation directly with a hotel to receive member’s benefits. Also after booking you have to download a hotel’s app.
I have used app to choose villa in the middle of the resort, so it would be not far away from the main buffet restaurant, theater and the beach. It was just around the corner from the middle swimming pool. Also the app was very useful to book a preference for the floor and our dinners 7 days prior our arrival to hotel. Here I can see a lot of comments that it was not possible to book any dinner. It is because you have never took care of it in advance. Last minute never works in busy hotels!

We have booked a private transfer from the airport to hotel. It was nice and smooth. Please don’t forget to tip your driver, it makes a huge difference in their lives.

Check in was fast as I have scanned our passports prior and filled all information at home through the app. So receptionist simply gave us keys, bracelets and explained the main information about the resort along with the small map. There were not many people at front desk so it wasn’t a long wait. But I could easily imagine a long queue building up as there is a lot to explain and do for the receptionists.

Concierge took our luggages into the golf car and we were on the way to our room. We have arrived to the resort after strong rain storm and the ceiling in villa’s corridor fell down right in front of our room. It was a bit shocking to see. You know the first impression of your temporary home for more than 2 weeks and it looks like a slum but whatever we stepped over it and went inside the room.

The room was dimly lit with a traditional tropical damp smell, which is absolutely normal. That’s why I recommend to bring your own essential oil to perfume it. I use Citronella, which is also a mosquito repellent.
We never had any issues with TV, AC, phone or fridge during our stay. I guess we were lucky in this matter. It is huge resort and things get broken a lot!
The room was really dated, but as not as bad the comments state. Clean with no signs of bed bugs and I haven’t seen any single cockroach throughout the stay. Bathroom amenities were always replaced. Kids enjoyed bubble bath and we had enough shower gel for it.
We just had a problem to get an extra bed for our children. For the first night no-one showed up to make it even we asked in reception during the check in and repeated the request to concierge. So comments about things are not getting done are absolutely true. Staff here is completely unreliable. After nagging reception for 2 more days we had finally got that bed. Don’t give up if you really need it. The best way to get that bed made up is to ask your housekeeper directly to do it when she comes to clean your room.
But keep in mind she might not come that day. If you want your mini bar stocked, leave some tips and a thanks note. Worked wonders for us and hkp showed up every day with loads of beer and extra water.
Be aware of mosquitoes sneaking in to the room every time you leave the doors open. So keep them closed at all times. Also be aware that your clothes, which are made of other fabrics than polyester, will not get dry. Swimming suits are no problem, but cotton fabrics must be given to the laundry. We have used it and surprisingly paid service was quick.
Huge topic in all inclusive is food. It has really amazed us how strong F&B was at this resort. I know everyone just keeps complaining about the cleanliness and options, but hear me out.
The main buffet restaurant has 1 closing hour after breakfast and 1 closing hour after lunch. During that time staff has time only to tidy up the shelves and place new or so recycled dishes for thousands of people who will storm the place mercilessly. The buffet is the cleanest in the morning as they probably do night deep cleaning. But this cycle repeats non stop so it is very hard to keep it clean. If you have been outside the resort, trust me it is 5* cleanliness for them compared how restaurants look like in the town. Variety of the food is insane. For breakfast I could eat smth different for 2 weeks. Lunch even more as you could eat at main restaurant, beach restaurant or by the pool, where chefs were cooking live fresh food (pasta, paella etc). Most of the times we skipped lunch and went straight to dinner the first ones. Dinners are amazing too with special days like Dominican, Asian, American food. Dominican ones were the best as we came to explore the culture too. Dinners are also with insane food diversity: various starters options, main and dessert. But keep in mind this system works only if you eat 3 course menu. Don’t over eat. If you did, walk to your villa instead taking a ride.
Wine served during dinners is horrible. So sour like vinegar.
Speciality restaurants were fine. The best Mexican and brazilian, ofcourse because countries are not far apart. Regarding Italian and Japanese they haven’t got a clue what they are doing. Indian was good as the chef was from India, so it was authentic. In my opinion guests need more Caribbean style food. If we want Italian we go to Italy. Waiters have the same issue attending tables like hkp showing up to clean. It was common to wait longer, or orders forgot or mixed up tables, which is again normal for a huge resort.
Don’t expect to be a very important guest, you are the number there. There are hundreds of people constantly asking for a drink, food, bed etc. Embrace that you are just one more guest.
If you want special treatment go to the hotel were the night costs thousand per night.
Hotel grounds are beautiful with loads of greenery, wild nature and a mini jungle in the middle of the resort. Beach is great, very little sea weed and tractor collecting it all the time. By the way driver could slow down a bit, this way he could collect more weed.

One thing always annoys me: slipper or the the scarf left on the sun bed on the beach. Acceptable when people show up right after breakfast, but there were beds like this for the day. In my opinion this shouldn’t be allowed at all. Or proper reservations with payments could be done.
Beach bars were always with extremely long queues, so be smart, walk a bit to the beach pool bar.
Drinks are very synthetic made with loads of sugar: pinacolada, banana mama, lemonade etc. Also it is severely skimmed, with a very little alcohol. So my advice take a few shots and a separate glass of toppings. Mix by yourself if you want one good cocktail instead of injecting enormous amounts of unnecessary sugar.
Vendors on the beach are a bit annoying, you tell no gracias but they will come back again in case you have changed your mind. If you want to be left in peace, for a second pretend that you are interested in and suddenly remember that you have left money in your hotel room trust me they won’t come back.

Spanish speakers are attended not better in quality, but in better understanding. I speak Spanish so I understand the unconscious unity between them. Staff is more relaxed and feels more connected with spanish speakers.

Entertainment was great. We have enjoyed every evening show. Keep in mind that they are the same every week so if you stay longer you have to choose other evening fun. Kids club was great with hands on activities. Entertainment in the pool was fun also. Loved to play bingo and even have won 1 time. Sadly got a bottle of that horrible wine. Funny, it is all inclusive and you could still win alcohol.

When sun goes down the mosquitoes come out. Bring your repellent or wear long sleeves and long trousers. I have seen severely bitten people.

The only incident we have witnessed was a complete drunk woman sleeping on the bar top by the pool. Eventually she vomited in the pool and we had to leave as the pool was closed for proper cleaning.
We have booked an excursion with one of the companies at lobby. It was great and fun day in the monkey land.

My husband is a morning coffee person, so this really made him mad - staff with coffee during breakfast just walks around and never comes to the right table. So misguided. It always took a good amount of time to get that first sip. He said coffee is horrible despite the country being full of coffee plantations. Hot chocolate was amazing though with cinnamon and sea salt. Up to this day I prepare cocoa for kids in Caribbean style - delicious.

For check out we have booked concierge to pick up our bags, but we were already prepared that no one will come. We went to reception by ourselves, luckily we didn’t have many bags to drag.

In conclusion, it is worth the money we have paid. We had a great time relaxing, always felt safe about our room or our belongings left on the sun bed while swimming. No major issues with the room or health issues.

This hotel is a good place if you don’t have high expectations or wish for a special treatment. Totally worth the money.

If you find it at a good price compared to other hotels, it's a good enough place for a week's r & r in winter. On arrival there's always quite a queue to check in, we were taken off to a side room but it still took ages to check in and whilst there were drinks available, there were no cups, we asked for cups and they said they were on their way but half an hour later they hadn't arrived and we still hadn't had a drink! Wifi doesn't work until you've checked into your room and waited! Our room was in Villa one, which is right by the bar and night entertainment and is noisy, both from revellers returning home and the fact that there is a service road going past the room, deliveries from very early morning. Also staff on mopeds! We were served raw chicken in the Brazilian Restaurant. The Japanese Restaurant is good, but the deep fried ice cream is a great disappointment. The Garden Grill is the best restaurant. The buffet restaurant serves a great choice of food, sometimes excellent. They cut your WiFi the second you check out, just go and ask at Reception and they'll put it back on for you. Many pools and lots of food choices. Drinks are good and breakfast is plentiful. Beach towels can be changed daily. Good for a week of relaxation. A wide range of people from many different countries. We never go out of resort and didn't get bored. One positive, it's close to the airport so a short transfer, and overall good value as you are travelling a long way.

Just visited from April 3 till April 10. Had an awesome time!! The room was awesome the housekeeping kept us stocked just give them a couple dollars and they take care of you like you would never believe. The safety measures were awesome the staff was incredible. Had the right amount of entertainment at the pool it was very fun!! The restaurants we’re great and the view for lunch was amazing!! I also asked for room service which was not included and do to the gout I suffered they brought me food to the room. If you needed anything they would always accommodate you. They did an amazing job during these times of Covid making our trip so enjoyable. I highly recommend this resort. Somethings maybe shut down that is out of the control but they did the best they could to make our trip very memorable. We’ve been here a couple times and every time we go they just try to do the best they can for you you will not be left down!!!

Suite 81122. My wife and I returned to this resort for the 2nd time in 12 months, The first time we stayed in the Punta Cana section, this time we chose the Aquamarine only based on the rate and nothing else in particular, This resort is wonderful. It does have its issues (can be very loud around the pools and along certain areas of the beach. The food at the buffets was good for buffet food and most of the ala cartes were good. Please remember your in another country and it isnt always what you might have expected...go with it. This place is immaculate and very large, We really did not interact with thw staff but when we did they were polite and courteous, It is true that some employees seem to converse with each other and goof around but I have seen that with staff in every country. The beach at our resort was/is incredible. It is truly one of the better beaches in the carribean, Our weather was just about perfect and we felt the earthquake in Puerto Rico (didnt know what it was till the next day), Our room did have free wifi but the downloads are amazingly slow. We had a GREAT time and cant wait to go back. My wife and I take the attitude that your vacation is pretty much what you want to make of it. Do your homework and dont expect perfection it just wont happen. Enjoy yourself.

We stayed for 2 weeks at the Grand Bahia Principe back in 2011 and decided to go back this year. It’s somehow the same but different. The food is amazing, great choices at the buffet and always good quality however the service is definitely lacking. The waiters were always a bit lost, late with water/drinks and sometimes even missed our table all together. The lobby is very clean and the overall premises of the resort is very well kept, however our villa #22 was always dirty. Housekeeping left bags on the floor in the hallway, trash. I figured they will eventually come and pick it up but never did. Our room was just cleaned bare minimum, bed made and towels replaced, but the floors were incredibly dirty. We have an 11month old son and when he was walking and crawling in the room his pants and feet were black 😨😨 I was also disappointed with the pool entertainment. Back in the day the team was very lively, a lot of games were done throughout the day.. this time around it felt like they were rushing and not genuinely having fun with people. It’s really a shame because we like the Bahia Principe chain and we’ve stayed in many places but unfortunately we won’t come back here.
The resort is big and we like that, and even though there’s a lot of positive points I feel like this last trip was a bit meeehh in my books.
Finally, when we came back home we realized we are missing our son’s sleeping bag, my husband sports tshirt and his after shave. We didn’t forget them in the room, I throughly checked every single corner. We tipped the housekeeping every day with US $ and this happened so definitely disappointed. Also my son got the hand mouth feet disease which is also common in resorts with a lot of kids but that sucked. We disinfected the high chair at the buffet but he is a kid and plays and touches everything so can’t always control germs.

This is the second time we have been to Dominican Republic and Bahia Principe Resort. The first time was in Luxury Bahia Principe La Romana (recommend).

This time we decided to go for a bit cheaper option and spend 10 days instead of 7. How disappointing... Despite the fact that the rooms are quite outdated and the ceiling in the bathroom was falling on us and the lamp shades were dangerous to touch, otherwise they would simply falling apart, it could still have been possible to have a wonderful time.

The food and specifically a la carte restaurants were terrible (0 out of 5). The food in the main buffet was almost always cold, didn’t taste good. For the money we paid to get mashed potatoes made of power is a least not what I would expect. Some food was literally impossible to eat, cut or chew, so after a few attempts, I gave up.

Restaurants deserve a separate paragraph. ALL the food there was microwaved and prepared a long time before it was served. Really really awful. Here, we would simply return it and not pay. They clearly didn’t think we deserve good food and service especially. The service was TERRIBLE!! We had to wait 15 mins before they’d take our order but would go past us multiple times pretending we are not even there!! Plates were flying on our table when they were trying to serve, so careless, arrogant and disrespectful! The guy was trying to pore some coffee into my cup and at the same time talking to someone behind him so he noticed last second that the cup was actually turned upside down - accident averted!

The service and general attitude to the guests was the worst I’ve ever seen! At the same time they naturally expect tips. Why? We tipped only at 2 restaurants out of 5 and left something for the maids.

The beach though is beautiful! It was worth going there just for it! But of course sun beds were always reserved so in 10 days we were lucky to enjoy a sun bed under an umbrella only once.

All in all, I gave 3 bubbles because of the ocean and hot weather! Really really bad attitude of most staff to the people who came there to enjoy their holiday and expect some respect. But who cares, people will keep coming anyway.... they are just very lucky to live on that beautiful island!

I would definitely recommend to rather spend more money and stay at, for example, Aquamarine or Esmeralda, however I would not expect a better service...

Cannot say enough! This was our very first visit. We were there during May break. Good weather and exceptional service. We loved this place. We were greeted very warmly with a lovely drink, and had our bags taken to our room promptly. Staff from reception to housecleaning to gardeners were very friendly, always smiling and could not do enough for you. The beach is one of the best.
The food was the best I’ve had in all of Dominican. The buffet was plentiful and many many options. The fish was never ending....delicious! Fresh pasta, seafood, eggs cooked to your liking and delicious desserts. The Al a Carte restaurants were fantastic! The soups were delicious! We met a lot of nice people and even met a couple who have been to Bahia over 25 times!!! Strongly recommend staying here. We will definitely go back

In 2019 we spent our 3rd holiday in this hotel. It was always very nice. The hotel is like a very nice village with a lot of „small” buildings, surrounds beautiful garden and not an overfull hotel.
I think the staff is very kindly and helpfull mainly with the children. Not everybody can speak English like the cleaning staff, but if you would like to communicate with them, they call somebody to translate, however at the restaurants, bars, reception everybody can speak english.
Even if your room is far from the beach it’s very easy to reach it with the electrical trolley, what was fun for the children.
The food was also good, I like that on every day they show different countries’ kitchen. Of course, the pizza is not the same as in Italy, but at least they try to reach the filling.
There are shows on every night on different areas, what is not comparable with a shows in Cesar Palace in Vegas, but good program for the night.
The rooms are clean, we didn’t experience any problem with it.
The beach and the weather are perfect, one of the most beautiful what I’ve ever seen.
The Wi-Fi quality improved a lot vs. previous years.

Cons: Here with a party of 11. So many problems. Shower has only scalding hot water in a hot country ; you can't even stand under it as it dribbles out. The front desk does not pick up the phone so you're trucking back to lobby which is fair distance to wait in line for someone to talk to. Complained 3 times it's supposed to be fixed. Door lock has malfunctioned twice once when our kid really needed to pee. It's a golf cart ride back and forth to front desk where they tell us its not the keys go back to room for technician to show. It happens again in the middle of night. Rooms were booked as two doubles for 4 people you check in and either it's not enough beds or linens or toilet paper or shower gel. Toilets didn't flush properly. The beach is nonexistent. Our area got taped off because umbrellas were knocked down but then you couldn't move to available chairs because it was for "exclusive "guests or "adults only" so there's no accommodating families. The beach waves are really rough so you can't do water sports and the big waves crash right up to the chairs youre not allowed in . We have been to a different Bahia before in DR and had an exceptional time loved it so really incredibly disappointed with this supposedly 5* resort.

Pros: I will say most of the staff are kind particularly Manuel. They have made a real effort to make it Christmas- like and the food has been good for variety . Overall, the general run-down quality of our room has motivated me to review this place so that others don't spend the kind of money we have for this shabby experience. (As I sit locked out of said room I have time to post this!?!)

I would first like to start off by saying I have stayed at the Bahia Principe 5 times and each time has been very enjoyable! This time, we stayed from April 24-May 1.

We travelled with a group of 32 for our wedding. Check in was a bit disorganized, some of the rooms were not ready when we arrived late afternoon, but it was no big deal, the alcoholic drinks we got at the lobby bar while waiting helped a lot! ;)

Rooms were pretty outdated, but the maids were phenomenal! A/C worked very well. The safe worked great. No issues. Water pressure in shower and sink was great. Beds were very comfortable and always felt clean.

Food was great at buffet and at the al la cartes! Any picky eater can find something!

Wifi was spotty in certain parts of the resort.

Most of us in the group were always at the pool during the day which was amazing! The beach had a lot of seaweed the first couple days, but after day 2, the water was perfectly clear and so warm!

As for our wedding, it was AMAZING and everything we wanted. We got married on the beach and had our reception at one of the restaurants right on the beach, which made for fantastic views! Our wedding coordinator Glaymi, I have no bad things to say about her. She kept in contact with me through email the months leading up to our arrival. It was so nice to finally meet her in person and discuss everything we had done over email. She made sure it was everything we wanted, and even gave us suggestion when we were unsure about something. She kept in contact with us during our stay as well, answering any questions we had within minutes. The ceremony was beautiful and the decorations were incredible! Our photographer Pablo was amazing to work with! He was fun, outgoing, knew exactly what he was doing, and overall made our photography experience incredible! It was quite windy on the wedding day and he always made sure my hair and veil was in the right spot before taking pictures! Our reception at the Blue Bar was fantastic. We had random people trying to walk through but Glaymi told them to kindly leave as this was a private event. She was always on the ball! She was with us from beginning to the end of the night and she even danced with us while the DJ was playing!

All in all, we had an amazing week with friends and family. Yes this section of the resort is old and outdated, but we made memories we will never forget!
