Motherhood is not just about giving birth: Aparajita Adhya shares her take on motherhood
Actress Aparajita Adhya is known to have played the role of a mother in multiple projects but in real life the actress does not have a child. Married for 27 years, she says she has been questioned several times about motherhood. “Whether I will conceive a child biologically or not is absolutely my personal decision where only my husband can have his say. This is not something the world can put on my shoulders and in all honesty I'm not answerable to anyone for my decision of not having a child.
My family hasn't asked me about my decision but the outside world has and to that my only answer is – my life, my choice!,” said the actress. She added, “I don’t believe in being a biological mother. You don’t become a mother by only giving birth to a child. Then Mother Teresa or Ma Sarada would never be the universal mother, would they? To me, motherhood is a process which a woman slowly embraces. I live in a joint family and our home is full of kids and my innumerable students – they all are my children. I am their mamoni – at times the bonding and love is more than any blood relation.”
Aparajita further added, “It is my urge that people should respect any couple’s decision of being a parent or not being a parent. It can be for some physical reason or personal reason- whatever it is, respect that.
