Cars24 has released its DriveTime Quarterly Report for Q2 2024. This report, covering April to June, highlights a significant increase in car purchases among salaried professionals, with nearly half (48.5%) of all buyers coming from this demographic.
Used car market: Top cities
The report underscores a notable urban demand for personal vehicles, particularly in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
However, the growth isn't confined to these urban centers. Non-metro cities such as Agra, Coimbatore, and Nagpur have shown remarkable increases in pre-owned car sales, reflecting a broader nationwide trend.

Used car market: Consumer preferences and popular models
The DriveTime report reveals that Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Creta remain the most sought after cars. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, and Tata dominate the market, with new players like Kia and MG gaining traction.
Hyundai i10 and Maruti Alto lead as the most purchased models, while the Grand i10 and Baleno are 2024's bestsellers. In the luxury segment, the Fortuner was the most expensive car sold at Rs 33 lakhs, whereas the Alto K10 stands as the most budget-friendly option at Rs 70,000.

The report also highlights a significant rise in SUV popularity, with models like the MG Hector, Nissan Magnite, and Jeep Compass seeing substantial growth. The share of SUVs in the used car market has increased from 10% to nearly 20% over the past five years.
Used-car market: Safety takes centre stage
The report also says that the car buyers prioritize safety and reliability, with 78% of Indian consumers focusing on features such as airbags, ABS, and ESC. Brands known for their robust build and comprehensive safety features, like Tata, Mahindra, Volkswagen, and Skoda, are gaining market share.
