CHENNAI: Dalits are not safe in Tamil Nadu, Union minister of state for parliamentary affairs L Murugan said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Murugan said, "Atrocities against dalits have increased tremendously in Tamil Nadu after DMK came to power in 2021. A survey says more than 2,000 cases of atrocities against dalits are reported every year in Tamil Nadu.
The murder of BSP state president K Armstrong shows that Tamil Nadu govt had failed to maintain law and order."
He cited some incidents that happened since DMK came to power in which dalits were the victims. They include the murder of BJP state SC wing functionary Balachandar and the rape of a 22-year-old dalit girl in March 2022."
He said, "DMK, which claims that it is a champion of social justice, does not actually follow social justice. Dalit panchayat presidents are not even permitted to sit in their chairs and hoist the national flag."
Earlier, a delegation of BJP senior functionaries led by V P Duraisamy went to Delhi and met Murugan. The delegation would submit petitions to the National SC Commission and National Human Rights Commission about the prevailing law and order situation in the state
BJP general secretaries Pon Balaganapathy and P Karthiyayini and former MP R Kolandaivelu were part of the delegation.
