Hu died at the hospital about four hours later, officials say.

Details of the crash haven't been released, but it comes two months after Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk announced the city's "Safe Streets for All" project.

It's a comprehensive strategy to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, eliminating traffic fatalities and severe traffic-related injuries by 2030.

The city is currently asking for resident feedback on safety improvements and areas of concern.

The plan was inspired by the death of 25-year-old Angela Yowakim.

"Angela's death gave me a renewed sense of urgency that we need to do something to make our city streets safer," Tuerk said.

The paraprofessional at Dieruff High School was hit and killed while crossing Irving Street in 2022.

In 2023, police say there were 136 accidents on Allentown roads involving pedestrians, with five being fatal.
