GREENWICH TWP., Pa. - Cones and signs are out on Route 143 as work to replace and widen the I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge over the road and the Maiden Creek gets underway.

"Well, we're having trucking companies, so coming here off the exit is challenging," said Brian Wanner, president of Peters Bros. Trucking, located nearby.

"I'm glad they're widening it. We need three lanes on 78. There's an immense amount of traffic," said Wanner.

This is the first of five construction stages.

Right now, pre-construction is underway.

"A lot of that entails painting lines, signage, barrier, setting up traffic control for the project as a whole," said Sean Brown, PennDOT spokesperson.

Brown said there will be nighttime lane restrictions on I-78 and restrictions during the day under the bridge on 143.

"For the most part, we will try to limit any kind of lane restrictions," said Brown.

PennDOT said work on I-78 will happen from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and work on 143 will occur from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wanner said the company is not looking forward to the inconvenience of the work but thinks it's worthwhile.

"We'll take it one-step at a time and looking forward to the bridge being wider and having an on ramp that you can get up to speed to get up the ramp and head eastbound," said Wanner.

PennDOT said work is anticipated to be complete in the summer of 2028.
