ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident in Allentown.

Allentown Police say it happened Tuesday around 10 p.m. in the 2000 block of Hamilton Blvd.

Officials say when officers arrived, they found a man with serious injuries.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Li-Qiang Hu, 42, of Lackawanna Co.

Hu was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, where he died from his injuries, a media release from the coroner's office reports.

Police say the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with the investigation.

The accident comes comes two months after Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk announced the city's "Safe Streets for All" project.

The project is a comprehensive strategy to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, eliminating traffic fatalities and severe traffic-related injuries by 2030.

The plan was inspired by the death of 25-year-old Angela Yowakim, a para-professional at Dieruff High School who was hit and killed crossing Irving Street in 2022.

In 2023, police say there were 136 accidents on Allentown roads involving pedestrians, with five being fatal.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
