Ranbir Kapoor on fatherhood and how his bond with the late Rishi Kapoor shapes his parenting dreams with Alia Bhatt

Back in 2022, during the promotion of his film Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor opened up in an interview with Hindustan Times about his desire to have many children with his wife, Alia Bhatt. This was a topic they had been discussing for a while.
Ranbir expressed immense gratitude for the joy he was experiencing in his life at that time, yet he admitted to sometimes wondering if this happiness could be fleeting.
Reflecting on the pregnancy announcement that he and Alia shared when she was expecting their daughter, Raha, Ranbir said, “It was something that Alia and I had been speaking about for a long time: that we want lots of children in our lives. We feel blessed and grateful. It’s a mix of a lot of emotions. I’m just extremely grateful at this point in our lives.”
He also discussed the influence of his late father, actor Rishi Kapoor, on his own approach to fatherhood. “I haven’t really planned such things, but it’s like you’re doing something that you’re unqualified to do, and then you become qualified while doing it,” he said. “So, I don’t know what we will be in for as parents right now. As of right now, you will just imbibe some value system that you’ve taken from your family and from life, but eventually, it’s one day at a time, and it’s a lifetime commitment.”
Ranbir's relationship with his father was somewhat strained. The late Rishi Kapoor often mentioned an invisible force that seemed to create a distance between them. Reflecting on his own childhood, Rishi Kapoor once said, “With generations, things change. Thinking changes. I knew what I missed out on with my father, so I tried to give that to Ranbir. I’m sure Ranbir will bring something that he missed out on.”
