I had a great experience here. I came down for a business trip and was a little concerned about how the whole Covid thing would play out. The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff was extremely friendly, and I could see steps were being taken to keep everyone safe. The restaurant was closed because of the pandemic, but there were great restaurants right behind the hotel, and a shopping center across the street that included a grocery store. It's a little over a mile walk to Carmel Beach, which was beautiful.I will definitely stay here again, and I would bring my wife here for a nice weekend getaway.

Their WiFi is terrible. Last Saturday and Sunday, I waited for 20 min on several and I mean several occasions to load a page from a website. For what you pay for a room, you would think this hotel would have a functional WiFi. The hotel was full and bet you that the front desk would come up with some excuse as to why it took me so long to load a page. My IPad is new and this is unacceptable. Also, the hotel charges extra fees, they are $20 a night. They say the extra fee is to maintain the parking lot, pay for pool chemicals. With Covid 19, restaurant, bar, etc are closed. Why don’t they just say resort fee, sneaky.....front desk staff was nice.

We booked a room with a balcony facing the Barnyard Shopping Village and it was super convenient since it is steps to restaurants and shops... and we ended up enjoying some good mojitos from Sur Restaurant. :) The staff at this hotel was very friendly and welcoming and we definitely enjoyed our stay.

The location of this hotel is a little atypical for a boutique hotel, as it's located right off Highway 1 between a couple of shopping centers. That said, it's a great little property with several recently upgraded amenities. The new front courtyard has several fire features and beautiful new furniture. The Lobby and Lounge are very tastefully done and include a cozy fireplace and interesting art. The pool and spa are well sized. Shearwater Tavern is a really cool bar and restaurant with a great ambience and interesting menu.

Where to start…

Honestly the new “renovation” is like putting lipstick on a pig. Sure when you look at it from afar it’s great - but upon closer inspection it obviously is flawed.

Our room had neighbors above and next to us. The walls are paper thin. I could hear the guy above me taking a leak…gross. But if you’re trying to relax and your neighbor isn’t, then guess what - you aren’t either.

Linens of all shapes and sizes were pathetic. Basically our bed had two sad pillows and hospital quality bedding. Rock hard mattress too. The pool towels were hilarious! They were like child sized towels, couldn’t wrap them around a regular adult. Actually all towels were sad. Really rough and scratchy.

The food from the restaurant was disgusting. My Caesar salad was fine enough, but it’s hard to mess up lettuce. Their tater tots are three huge blobs of fried mashed potatoes. Again, really sad quality.

All in all, ping up the extra $ and stay somewhere nicer.

We are so sorry that we did not meet your expectations during your stay. We actually have undergone a very big renovation in our public space (lobby, restaurant and courtyard). We continue to upgrade our linens and service them on property and surprised that you only had two pillows as this is not our standard. Again it sounds like we missed on this too and we are sorry for your experience. Please if you return to Carmel give us another chance and reach out to me directly to assist you with your stay.
