The Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine is often celebrated for its cleanliness, with many travelers commending the immaculate condition of rooms, pools, and beaches. Despite the spacious accommodations, guests have called out the rooms for being somewhat outdated and occasionally noisy. While opinions on service vary, with commendations for staff friendliness juxtaposed against complaints about inefficiency, the resort's amenities are generally well-received despite some maintenance and stocking issues. The resort's vibrant atmosphere is a draw, though it's somewhat marred by outdated decor and subpar sound systems. Affordability stands out, yet some guests feel that the value is compromised by inconsistent service and food quality.

Hotel's Favourite
I’m shocked by all the negative reviews. This is our 2nd stay and we had a fabulous time. We are a Canadian couple in our 50s. We are well travelled including some of the more luxurious resorts in PuntCana like Secrets, Excellence etc. This resort definitely is not as luxurious as those but for the price we paid we feel we are getting fabulous value.
Yes rooms are a bit dated but ours was absolutely spotless. Maid and mini fridge service was perfect (we tipped daily). Pool was lively and beach was peaceful. Loved the food especially MEAT, Portifino and Limbo. Beds are hard but you can ask for a mattress topper which I don’t think many people are aware of. For better wifi pay the $20/week for premium. We brought our firestick and had no issues watching Netflix etc.

The only con and negative experience compared to our last visit was the lunch buffet at Las Olas at the beach which is shared with other hotels and not adults only. It was horribly frustrating trying to get a clean table and getting cutlery napkins etc. There didn’t seem to be enough staff cleaning and resetting tables. Food was good though. We eventually gave up and would go back to Aqua for lunch. Trains were quick and easy to get.

In order to get a palapa on the beach you had to arrive by 9:30. I have a feeling that people are tipping the beach boys in order for them to reserve a palapa for you but I can’t say for certain. Too many vendors on the beach for my liking to be honest but after a couple of days of saying no they stop bothering you. Beach is glorious with no seaweed but last few days water was really rough - roughest I’ve seen in 20 years!!! Got hit by wave and lost my prescription sunglasses 😭. Never had any issue with our belongings being removed from our chairs while we were away at lunch etc.

Evening entertainment was fun.
Lobby coffee machines were great!!!
We found overall service good - yes front desk staff could be friendlier but it didn’t affect our stay.
AC in our room was more than adequate - we were actually cold at night and needed to add the extra blanket provided in the closet.

This is a Spanish chain hotel so you have to be comfortable expecting that 75% or more of the guests are Spanish speaking from a variety of countries from around the world. And hence the reason the majority of the staff are not fluent in English. This is a big difference compared to going to the American chains like Secrets and Excellence where the majority of guests are English speaking and staff are more fluent.

We’re definitely returning!!
Again can’t understand why there’s so many negative complaints. I guess it depends on what you are paying and managing your expectations. As long as you’re paying 40% less than Secrets and Excellence then I think you’re getting great value for this adults only resort.

Aquamarine is part of the very well kept grounds at the Grand Bahia Principe. I noticed many upgrades to the grounds from the last time I was there a few years ago. The pool and rooms are lovely and the staff work hard to keep everything running smoothly. It is not as pretentious as Ambar while still providing many luxuries to enjoy.

The food at the buffet is good for breakfast and not bad at lunch, though very repetitive. The best food is found at the a la carte restaurants. They now have signature cocktails which were excellent and a good variety of types of food. These restaurants have had their decor upgraded and the menu reflects the types of food offered. The system for booking dinners at the a la carte restaurants is now available online but notice should be given to future guests that this should be done in advance of arrival. This is a problem for new guests, as well, as it is often helpful to hear from other guests about which restaurants to go to once you have arrived at a location.

As usual, the beach is spectacular and great for good long walks, and there is always a great breeze while poolside is very hot but the pools are a great way to cool off without the sand! Beach bars are quite accessible.
One awesome addition the whole resort is the Coffee Shop but this is not accessible to those staying at Aquamarine (only those at Ambar and Esmerelda).

Overall, good value, great grounds, beautiful surroundings, fabulous beach and wonderful a la carte restaurants.

NEGATIVES
No welcome drink.
Room: 3 days without cleaned; in one, only by querying twice for the service (at Front Desk) it was done.
At every bath, water was drained into the room, as there was a hole at the seal of the window between the bathroom & the room.
Card to open the room failed 3 times; at 3rd the door’s battery was changed; the employee waited for a tip.
Sports Bar: 4 nights with no karaoke; 3 because there was a message at the machine: “subscription invalid” & 1 because of Super Bowl Final (TV) to which only the Bar employees were attentive (it was broadcasted by a giant screen at the Theater).
At Main Buffet the service was tip oriented. Even after tipping (50 pesos) Maria ignored two requests of a drink, with a smile. We guess she wanted higher tips. No more tips.
As a next vacation exploration, we visited the other resorts of the complex; but, they didn’t allow us to enter Fantasia (as a walk after lunch); incredible. Staff from Iberostar & Royalton invited us to visit them.
Rest. Fish Market: at entrance they suggest the extra cost services; in AI? We asked for an outdoor table; the only available had several dead mosquitoes; in a 5 * AI? Went to the Main Buffet.
At towel change: it was about to close & the change was refused; absurd.
Beach sun loungers: many available, but the 6-7 front rows were always reserved at 9AM. Some folks reserve 4 chairs for 2 persons & this is allowed.

AMBIVALENCES
Food: acceptable, but repetitive for 2 weeks. Prawns only in the 1st week.
Outdoor pool: clean & spacious but too noisy.

POSITIVES
Check in: fast.
Breakfast: good.
Gardens: very well kept.
Wi-Fi: good.
4 pool jacuzzies: excellent!
Beach sand: clean; nice to walk.
Sea temperature: pleasant.
Very good nightlife: karaoke, dance music, disco, shows.
Bars staff: pros!
Rest. Garden Grill & Steak House: excellent!
Many tourists of many nationalities & zero snags observed.

My wife and I stayed at the Bahia Principe Aquamarine in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and I must say the resort is so pristine and well-maintained. I will give the place a 5-star rating, but the food overall is somewhat of a disappointment. On our first day, the breakfast buffet really looked good, but on the third and fourth day after seeing the same breakfast menu it begun to lose its appeal. Bahia Principe in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic boasts of 11 a la carte restaurants and guests are allowed to book 7 restaurants for the week of stay. We booked online which what we were supposed to do and we managed to reserve only five restos because the others were completely booked according to the online booking. Two of the five we reserved were Japanese restaurants, Maiko and Mikado. At Maiko we had the Teppanyaki where the chef cooked the dinner in front of the guests. I can honestly say that it was the worst Teppanyaki dinner we’ve ever had. It didn’t even come close to being a Japanese food. We have eaten in many Japanese restaurants in Toronto, so by now we have a pretty good idea what Japanese food tastes like. Maiko is the worst bar none. We just had to be polite with the Dominican chef so we didn’t show our displeasure. Maiko’s decor and ambience is so Japanese but the food is not up to par. The next night we went to Mikado and got there half hour early and asked the host If we can be seated early. She said that they were completely full and that we have to wait until our reservation time, which we did. When we finally got in, to my disappointment the place was about ninety percent empty. There were plenty of empty tables and it made me wonder why we couldn’t be seated earlier. This time we chose a la carte dinner as we ordered from the menu. Once we got our sushi, tempura and spring roll appetizer, I can only describe it as the most unauthentic Japanese food we’ve ever had. Once again, the Mikado decor is so Japanese but the food quality is just awful. Bahia must think so lowly of their guests that we wouldn’t know what a Japanese food really tastes like. To add insult to our taste buds, we were served the wrong dessert from what we ordered because the server could hardly communicate and understand English, which we found to be common in the entire resort. Most of the servers lack the basic understanding of English which is essential in the hospitality industry. The tourists are mainly North Americans, so Bahia should provide training to their employees, at the least, the most common English terms. There doesn’t seem any evidence of that in this resort. Also, from what we experienced and what we heard from other guests, that booking dinner reservations was hard because most restaurants were fully booked and yet when you get to the restaurant that you managed to reserve, they weren’t even full, too many empty tables, which is utterly ridiculous.

Another thing is Bahia Principe is an all-inclusive resort that you should not be paying anything extra for a service such as wifi. Their free basic wifi is very bad, they ask you to pay extra for the faster speed.

Overall, the place is 5 stars, but the food is only 2 stars.

We arrived via a private transfer. Buses can’t access the main lobby of Aquamarine so you are dropped off then shuttle over. When we arrived at first lobby guests upset, yelling and we are standing there stuck in the middle. Their transfer to airport did not show up and told by staff they could not hire our transfer. Confusion. Asked at desk where we check in rudely told at other lobby. Not a good start. So stressed.

But.... when we arrived at our check in lobby the girls there were so kind. Thank you so much! Asked us if we wanted a drink and explained everything to us.
We received all the a la cartes we requested by email prior to arrival and were moved on second day into an amazing pool view room 32308 (1st assigned room overlooking lobby)
We enjoyed the walk past mangrove with birds to beach every day with a stop in lobby first for an espresso from the machine.
Thali Indian restaurant was by far our favourite. I didn’t know what to expect Indian in DR but the chef getting it started up cooked the most authentic Indian meal. Wanted to go again.

We loved the sports bar and the white noise party so much fun. Headphones with different types of music to listen and dance to but allows others to still sit and talk if they want to. Wish it lasted longer would be a great wedding venue.

I’m a non smoker and find it gross to be sitting smelling smoke everywhere. Manners from other guests would have been appreciated.

So many kind workers asking us if we need drinks at pool and beach. Thank you Lady Gaga, Rossy and others. My husband played games but I was being lazy and just relaxed.

Really appreciated having the adults only but still being able to tour other resorts. We didn’t get to even 1/2 of them so big.
We also found the gift shop to have reasonable prices for quality items. I bought my daughter a leather knapsack which she loves.

This is a big complex which we knew when we booked and not directly on the water but a very beautiful clean property.

A full detailed review will be writen after. This was our 2nd time at this resort. Guest services were excellent . Staff would come around and ask if everything was ok with our room, if we needed anything . They are ready to drive you everywhere you wanted to go on the resort, the beach to the shows or even your restaurant reservation.
We never felt the need to tip to get service but we did.
The room we had this time around was 81314 it was nice and very clean, We could say that the only negative thing about the room was the view of a white cement wall from a building (Royalton resort next door) so we didn't enjoy going on the balcony. The couple of small problems that arose with our room during our stay were all addressed within an hour of us reporting them.
We went to the buffet for breakfast and lunch most days. There was a great selection of food for every taste buds. A special thanks to Mercedes and Maria who always welcomed us with the biggest smile every day.
Our top favorites restaurants were El Olivio, Mashua Nikkei, The Fish Market, M.E.A.T and Thali..
Aquamarine has a private beach section and we had no problem finding chairs near the water every time we went. There is a buffet restaurant right beside this section of beach for lunch.
The pool it was clean and no problem finding chairs..
The entertainment staff was very energetic and works hard to make your stay enjoyable.
The Wifi is free throughout this resort and it is good. Thanks to everyone for making this vacation another to remember. Yes we will definitely be returning to this resort.

A year ago my wife and I stayed for the first time at a Bahia hotel, that one in La Romana Dominican about an hour out from Punta Cana. We had been so impressed that we decided this year to save the drive from the airport and just enjoy the amazing beaches of Punta Cana.

First off, the beaches are just that, truly amazing. Right off the resort was the ability for long walks on soft white sand or a jump in the ocean that had very little seaweed and no jellyfish that we saw. The ability to get a chair at the beach was never a problem and they have restaurants and bars convenient for something quick assuming you don't arrive right at lunch. The hotel was as expected, very clean and luxurious and the resort offers lots of choices whether you're thing is buffets or à la carte. Further, all if the staff were terrific, much more accommodating than our stay in La Romana a year ago. As a winter destination this resort certainly hits the mark...on paper.

The biggest disappointment was the tiered system amongst the adjoining resorts. You're allowed here or here but not there. You are not permitted to drink certain selections as you are not "Ambar" or "Priviledge". I'm sorry, when you pay for all inclusive the last thing I was expecting is being told that a dinner selection is an extra cost, a big cost. Aquamarine has one pool and although you can use ones on the other resorts, we paid for adults only. The challenge was that the Aquamarine pool was forever noisy with too many events and folks who seem to be enjoying their first visit south.

We also would not have expected the lack of enforcement to the dress codes at the restaurants which wouldn't have been bad except you almost feel out of place not to mention hot in closed shoes while the fella at the next table sits wearing flip flops. Definitely more of a Cancun feel in that anything goes. The reality is that this resort is not the "luxury" found at a sister hotel a mere hour up the road.

If you're looking for a rested vacation quiet of the crowd with the expected selections at the bar or restaurant, pay the upgrade for "Ambar" or better yet head to La Romana. If you do go expect lots of walking as the place is huge, loads of people fighting for scraps at the lunch buffet by the beach and in general the feeling that "inclusive" really doesn't exist here.

This was our first trip to Punta Cana, as well as our Honeymoon.

When we arrived the check in went fairly smooth, I had checked in on the App before arrival. It was disappointing that we were not told where anything was or which restaurants were available to us. There are maps outside the lobby and on the app, however some locations of restaurants have changed and we were not informed.

I had booked al a carte prior to arrival via the App and were able to book 6 of 7 dinners, changes were not available due to lack of space.
We ate at Tequila, MEAT, Greek, Garden Grill and Maiko, the food was great at all. The service at tequila was a bit disorganized, we had 5 different people serving us, with out actually getting service.
We did the Romantic Dinner on the beach, it was our Honeymoon, the food and service was 5+ stars, well worth the $110usd

The Bahia app definitely needs work however, as does the wifi at the resort. Every restaurant has QR codes for menu, but sometimes you have to wait for wifi to connect to be able to read them.

The room was very clean upon arrival, the bell boy made sure to let us know the A/C and lights only worked with the key card in the holder. The maid service was ok, many times they were wanting to clean the room in the early evening while we were getting ready for dinner, and would not wait 10 mins or come back.
The mini bar got well stocked the first day, with a tip, but after that it was just filled with pop and water.

The resort grounds were amazing, well manicured and very clean. We liked that they had reusable plastic glasses and bins to put them in through out the resort.

Covid.... we booked our PCR test and were told to arrive at 11am, showed up a few minutes early and waited approx. 45mins to get tested, results within 14hrs.
All resort workers wore masks at all times, yes the odd one was below the nose but as a rule they were worn. The bartenders at the pool bar had a stack of disposable masks for guest to use when ordering.

Bring some afterbite or Benadryl, a few mosquito bites and bee stings. We never really needed any bug spray.

We were in building 82, poolside. worth the upgrade, 'Garden View' rooms over look the backside of the next resort.

This resort just reopened 3 weeks before we arrived with new staff and during a pandemic, I would not say it's not back to a 5 star resort yet, but could be.

Any questions, feel free to messege me.

We enjoyed our stay, the rooms, junior suite were spacious, clean and had lovely pool view. We emailed to request rooms close together as we're 3 couples and they made certain to accommodate. The pool foam party was a highlight. Drawback has to be the beach. The beach buffet restaurant was definitely a letdown, no variations st any point in 7 days, even the same reheated soups. Lacklustre sadly. If you enjoy beach time know that you are NOT close to the beach. If you want a lounger in a decent spot head down by 6:30 am otherwise u are stuck in the back almost like a nosebleed section. In the early am there are NO trolleys to take u to the beach so you walk from pool min 30 minutes roundtrip. The aquamarine side of the beach is small and narrow and extraordinarily cramped you feel like loungers on a cruise ship. The beach bar is a hike a beach waiters are few and far between unless BIG tips! The beach plays a huge part for my vacation choices, unfortunately for this reason I would most likely not recommend this resort.
