Enjoyed my stay at the Mercure hotel very much, the room was excellent, the staff were friendly and the hotel had very good facilities, especially the roof top swimming pool which is a unique feature of this hotel with great views over the city. The hotel location was excellent, in an area with several shops / bars / restaurants and very near the tram stop from where it was a short ride to the old town and the beach, and it was maybe about a 15-20 minute walk if you felt like walking. In 34 C heat it was great that the air conditioning in the hotel corridors and the room were working well.

My only slight disadvantages were that the hotel did not have a restaurant, but snacks at the bar and room service were available and there are a good choice of restaurants in the local area. Also the price was slightly high, €185 per night but Nice is an expensive town anyway and it was in August so the height of the tourist season in France. And because my flight into Nice arrived very late at night, there were no more buses running, so I had to get a taxi which was €35 (the bus only costs €4) but that is not the fault of the hotel. There is an Ibis hotel (also part of the same group) just around the corner which I had tried to book but it was not available, for those travelling on a budget that might be a better option, but the Mercure Notre Dame is well worth staying at.

Stranded in Nice for 2 nights after my flight got cancelled, and the airline put us up here. It's quite a decent city hotel, located almost right opposite the beautiful Notre Dame cathedral along Avenue Jean Medecin. A stones throw (maybe around 10min) walk away from the train station, and around 15min away from the Promenade des Anglais.

Probably more of a North American 3 star property. Rooms are good size for France, which is to say, not excessively small. Beds were comfy. Room decor was a little dated and could do with a freshening up, but everything was clean and well taken care of. As previous posters have mentioned, the toilet is in a separate room from the bathroom, which is nice. The bathtub and shower are combined, but they have an odd way of keeping the bathroom dry. They use a swing screen, which prevents most of the splashes from the shower, but not all. So you may get a little bit of a wet floor from time to time.

A decent breakfast is provided, but as the hotel has no restaurant, other meals are only via room service, meaning menu is limited (pastas etc only). Internet is free (much appreciated).

I didn't go to the rooftop bar and pool, so can't comment on those.

Front desk staff are good, very helpful and all speak excellent English. Communication wasn't a problem.

The only thing is I hesitate to recommend staying along (or near) Avenue Jean Medicin as it gets a little dingy at night.

The hotel itself however, is pretty decent and can be recommended esp if you're going to be taking the train a lot for inter-city hops.

The hotel was great I only have 2 comments which were not great. Firstly we were promised a free gift on arrival - we are still waiting for it. Secondly the gentleman on the front desk was very abrupt and rude. The two ladies were absolutely wonderful but he was a total grump. Breakfasts were great and room service wS also great.

The rooms have recently been renovated and are now of a good standard. However they are pretty small and the walls are relatively thin as it is an older building. Staff was very friendly. The location is great and in walking distance from many attractions. The room service food was good as well as breakfast. however there was no gymn in the whole hotel.

On the whole, the hotel's infrastructure was great (probably due to the recent renovation). Our room was clean and looked new. However, when I called the Room Service to request for a beer bottle opener, a male staff replied that he only had ONE bottle opener left and that I would need to BRING the bottle TO HIM if I wanted it opened. I could not believe what I heard!!! My wife was shocked too, so she decided to call again hoping for better treatment. This time, a lady answered the call and repeated the same answer. My wife was pissed off and insisted that SHE BRING the bottle opener TO US instead of the other way round. Where on earth is their customer service?! The staff, sensing our annoyance, reluctantly knocked on our door to pass us the super-precious opener and even allowed us to keep it for later use if needed. Finally, we felt like customers again. Besides this episode, our stay was mostly pleasant. The bathroom however lacked basic amenities such as toothpaste and toothbrush. Wifi was unbelievably slow. We had difficulty uploading our pictures onto Facebook. Hotel's location was good -- just right opposite the beautiful Notre Dame Church.
