ITDP, WRI Africa, ZRST and ZIPAR hosted a workshop on low-carbon transport in Lusaka and explored strategies to improve conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users in the city. Key highlights included: ✅ Discussions on integrating non-motorised transport and accessibility ✅ Plans to establish a complete NMT network across the city ✅ Presentations on the digital mapping of Lusaka's public transport network ✅ Participatory planning to identify priority interventions for walking and cycling facilities and intersection treatments This was an important step towards inclusive, low-emission mobility in Zambia. The newly formed Transport Advisory Committee will now work to coordinate these vital initiatives.

We joined a consultative workshop in Nakuru to improve ongoing non-motorised transport projects, focusing on improving pedestrian and cycling infrastructure for a more inclusive, sustainable urban environment. ITDP participated in the Africa E-mobility Forum in Dakar, organised by SOLUTIONSplus and Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI) The city's #SunuBRT is now open to the public and features state-of-the-art ITS, real-time customer information, and off-board electronic fare collection.

We participated in the 10th Africa Sustainable Urban Mobility Course in Abuja, where the need for sustainable, safe, and efficient transport modes in Nigerian cities was emphasised. Currently, there is insufficient non-motorised transportation (NMT) and public transport infrastructure in Nigerian cities, but efforts are being made to improve the situation. The National Cycling Policy sets the goal of achieving a 10% modal share for cycling by 2030. During the workshop, Olorunola Olufemi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, delivered a speech emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable, safe, and efficient transport modes in Nigerian cities, considering the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and population growth. We presented on key topics essential for sustainable urban mobility, including ✅ Complete street design principles, ✅ Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) planning principles, and ✅ Design exercise for safer intersection.

The newly constructed Abay River Bridge is a crucial step in the city's goal to implement the Bahir Dar Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) which aims to build a network of dedicated cycle facilities covering 57 km over the next ten years. Features include: ✅ A protected 2 m cycle track, ensuring a safe and dedicated space for cyclists. ✅ A 5 m walkway on both sides, provides ample room for pedestrians.
