The 10 most livable cities in the US ranked
The price of housing, availability of schools and hospitals, access to green space are all factors that make a city 'livable.'
A new report by the Economist Intelligence Unit has painstakingly combined 30 such factors to come up with the 'most livable' cities around the world.
The factors - which also include crime rates, quality of the roads and the local economy - fall into five categories that produce a city's overall score. These five are stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
Vienna in Austria landed top spot out of the 173 cities for the third year in a row with an almost-perfect score. It missed out on 100 percent because of a lack of major sports events.
In fact, Western Europe was the most livable region. The 30 cities in that area all scored 92 out of 100.
North America didn't fare as well as Europe.
Canada's Calgary and Vancouver were the only two North American cities in the top ten. The largest US cities - Los Angeles and New York are ranked in 58th and 70th.
Honolulu triumphed as the highest scoring American city for the second year in a row - but it was 23 overall across the globe. Atlanta was the second best US city and Pittsburgh third.
North America does have a world-leading average education score and rivals Western Europe in terms of infrastructure and cultural offerings.
1. Honolulu, HI
With its sandy beaches and lush rainforests, it is little wonder that Honolulu was ranked as the most livable city in the US once again.
The oceanfront city enjoys a year-round tropical climate and median home price of $650,000.
The city has a low unemployment rate, sitting at around 3.5 percent, and a thriving jobs market.
Downtown Honolulu is considered walkable and the city also offers several well-used options for public transport as well as a bust international airport.
2. Atlanta, GA
Atlanta came in as the second best city for livability in the US.
The Georgia capital boasts an abundance of cultural attractions such as the World of Coca-Cola, the Atlanta History Center and the Centennial Olympic Park.
The southern city also has much to offer sports enthusiasts who can follow the MLB's Braves or the NFL's Hawks.
The Median home price in this southern city is currently $425,000.
3. Pittsburgh, PA
Ranking as the third overall most livable city in the country is the Steel City.
Pittsburgh came to prominence in the industrial boom of the Gilded Age and has retained its place at the heart of the Steel Industry.
The trappings of its 20th century past are seen in its plentiful cultural offerings such as the Carnegie Museum of Art.
The population of around 300,000 has a relatively low unemployment rate of 3.3 percent and the median home price in the city is $274,900.
