Abigail Breslin says she's received 'death threats' after appearing to slam Katy Perry for working with controversial producer Dr. Luke

Abigail Breslin said she received 'death threats' after appearing to call out Katy Perry via X on Wednesday.

The Scream Queens alum, 28, got candid about the backlash she faced following a tweet that some fans interpreted as slamming the Firework singer for working with producer Dr. Luke on her upcoming album

Dr. Luke was accused by Kesha in a 2014 lawsuit of sexual assault and other forms of abuse. He denied the allegations and the parties reached a settlement in 2023.

'So I made a post condemning abusers and supporting an artist I love... and apparently that means receiving death threats... cool,' Abigail posted.

Hours earlier, the star tweeted, 'I'm just saying... working with known abusers in any industry just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent shit and get away with it. On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows ive ever been to last year <3 stream Kesha!'

While the Oscar nominee didn't explicitly mention Katy or Dr. Luke in her post, some observers inferred she might have been referring to the duo, given that Perry's new song Woman's World was co-written and co-produced by Dr. Luke.

Abigail had quickly responded to the criticism of her initial tweet by sharing: 'omggggg guys really...? I didn't say anything awful, everyone calm down.

'I said I dont support abusers. crucify me. and I also never said I have an amazing music career. God... calm down.'

However, the Little Miss Sunshine alum insisted she would not be deterred from posting about abusers.

'Also, I've been a long time advocate against SA (sexual abuse) and DV (domestic violence),' she tweeted, 'so I'm not gonna stop speaking out about it regardless of how many of you tell me to im worthless and disgusting and awful.'

Later, she added: 'Im not gonna stop speaking out against abuse. I never said a negative thing about your fave. Please relax.

'Im allowed to have a perspective. You’re allowed to roast my career and treat me horribly but idk why you would. I stand by what I said. Gn.'

This comes after Abigail made headlines when she declined to work individually with Aaron Eckhart on the CIA thriller Classified, citing his reported 'aggressive, demeaning, and unprofessional' behavior on set, according to a November 2023 report.

Abigail gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Olive Hoover in the film Little Miss Sunshine, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2007.

Additionally, she starred as Libby Putney in Ryan Murphy's 2015 horror comedy series Scream Queens.

Meanwhile, Katy is shrugging off critics after reconnecting with Dr Luke – with sources claiming she believes he is crucial to ensuring she achieves a successful musical comeback.

The Dark Horse hitmaker, 39, sparked controversy last month when it was revealed that Dr. Luke, 50, co-produced her new single Woman's World.

The song is being marketed as a feminist anthem - along with other songs on her upcoming sixth studio album.

But, insiders claim Katy was desperate to collaborate with the Grammy-nominated producer – despite his lengthy court battle over allegations of sexual abuse – because of their previous chart success with tracks including I Kissed A Girl and Teenage Dream.

'She understands she is controversial by working with Dr. Luke again, but they work so well together, and they have such a rapport with each other that she knows him in a different way than others might,' a source told DailyMail.com.

'Her relationship with Dr. Luke is an important one. So to have worked with him again is something she isn't bothered about, even though plenty of fans are.'

Dr. Luke - real name Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald - is behind many of Katy's career-defining hits, including 2008's I Kissed a Girl, 2010's Teenage Dream and 2013's Roar.

The music producer was locked in a bitter legal battle with Tik Tok singer Kesha, 37, for nearly a decade from 2014 after she accused him of drugging and raping her back in 2005.

A New York state judge ruled against Kesha in 2020 saying she had defamed her former producer with the claim, and an appeals court upheld that decision in 2021.

The pair finally reached a settlement in June 2023 – just one month before the case was set to go to trial.
