Even the base-spec EC40 comes with loads of kit - including a panoramic glass roof, Google-based infotainment system, 19-inch alloy wheels, climate control and a huge suite of safety and driver assistance features.

Like the Plus, this model comes with loads of equipment as standard - but it also gets a bigger battery, bringing up to 345 miles of range.

Black Edition versions of the Volvo EC40 are, as you might expect, fully blacked out with black alloys, a black grille, black badging and all of the exterior chrome replaced with gloss black trim. It's only available in one colour - black - and the interior comes with black suede upholstery. Plus here refers to the trim level, which is available with the Single Motor powertrain and comes equipped with a panoramic glass roof and Volvo's Google-powered infotainment system.

Twin Plus has all the same equipment as the regular Plus trim, but features the Twin Motor powertrain with two electric motors and massive performance. You get slightly less range than in the Single Motor Extended Range version, though.

Ultra is the posher version of the EC40. It gains a Harman Kardon sound system, Pixel LED headlights and a 360-degree camera system over the Plus model, and isn't available with the smaller battery of the regular Single Motor car.

The Ultra Black Edition features the Single Motor Extended range powertrain for the longest distance on a single battery charge with the 'Ultra' trim level. That means on top of the generous standard kit you also get a Harman Kardon sound system, 360-degree camera system and sophisticated matrix LED headlights.

Performance Plus is the same trim level as the EC40 Plus Black Edition, but here it's fitted with the Twin Motor Performance powertrain for impressive speed and acceleration.

The EC40 Twin Motor Ultra is the range-topping version, getting all the extra equipment of the Ultra car but adding on the hugely powerful Twin Motor setup as well.

Performance Ultra Black Edition is the ultimate EC40 - pairing the well-equipped Ultra trim level with the fastest Twin Motor Performance powertrain for an impressive turn of pace.
