Renault hybrid range: current models

From a small hatchback to large SUVs, the Renault E-Tech hybrid range has a car to suit all needs and budgets.

Renault Clio

The Renault Clio is a popular hatchback, now available as a full-hybrid with 145hp and a maximum official driving range of 550 miles. The electric motor helps to reduce the fuel consumption of the petrol engine and regarches while the car is driving. The Clio can use electric power alone for up to approximately two miles. We've reviewed the Clio and given it a score of 9/10, praising it for its high quality interior, massive boot and stylish design, but we're not so keen on the high boot lip and felt the rear seat space was a bit tight.

Renault Captur

The Renault Captur is a small SUV. The full-hybrid combines a 145hp, 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 1.2kWh battery and two electric motors. We praised the Captur for its high-quality interior and space. On hybrid models, the battery reduces the space in the boot slightly.

Renault Arkana

The Renault Arkana E-Tech is a full-hybrid with a 1.6-litre petrol engine supported by an electric battery giving a total power output of 145hp. It’s an SUV hatchback, but that sloping rear tailgate does leave limited headroom in the rear.

Renault Austral

The Renault Austral is a mid-size SUV with competitors such as the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage. This Full-Hybrid has a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo petrol combined with two electric motors and a 1.7kWh battery to create 200hp and 410Nm of torque. We scored it 6/10, liking its funky design, three ISOFIX points and rear-wheel steering, but we're not so keen on its ride over bumps and practicality in the back seat and boot.

Renault hybrid cars FAQs

Renault E-Tech models are full hybrids, meaning they have the battery capacity to run on 100% electric for short distances of a couple of miles or so, if required, but don’t have to be plugged-in to recharge. Combined with a petrol engine, the battery supplies instant power to reduce the amount of energy (and fuel) needed from the petrol engine. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions.
The wide range of Renault hybrids also has a wide range of prices, starting from £21,495 for the Clio; £24,895 for the Captur; £27,095 for the Arkana; and £34,695 for the Austral.
The best Renault hybrid to buy is the one that best suits your needs and budget. It could be the charming Clio E-Tech if a small hatchback is what you want, or at the other end of the range, the Austral E-Tech is the perfect choice if you need the space of a mid-size SUV.
