Peugeot SUV range: current models

The Peugeot SUV range could best be described as small (2008), medium (3008) and large (5008). On top of that, the Peugeot 408 is SUV-like in its stance but with a sloping hatchback body style.

Peugeot 2008

The Peugeot 2008 is an attractive compact SUV offering electric, hybrid and petrol variants and extra interior and luggage space compared to its 208 hatchback sibling. It scored 8/10 in its Carwow review thanks to its stylish exterior design, running costs and 3D dashboard display; however, it was criticised for adult rear passengers feeling cramped, having a sluggish automatic gearbox and because the infotainment system can be fiddly to use.

Peugeot e-2008

Like the petrol and hybrid versions, the 100% electric e-2008 is a stylish and compact SUV. This model also scored 8/10 in its Carwow review for most of the same reasons as the petrol model’s review (stylish interior and exterior, but limited rear space for adults). The e-2008 now has a 54kWh battery (slightly bigger than earlier models) with an official range of 250 miles (compared to 217 for the older model).

Peugeot 3008

The Peugeot 3008 is a mid-sized SUV competing against rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Karoq or Kia Sportage. It has one of the most interesting interior designs of any SUV thanks to Peugeot’s i-Cockpit dashboard.

In its Carwow review, it scored 8/10 with praise for its design cabin storage and boot space, but lost points for poor visibility, a seating position that restricted the view of the controls for some drivers, and that plug-in hybrid versions seemed expensive.

New or used, there’s a wide choice of engines for the 3008: petrol, diesel and hybrid.

Peugeot e-3008

The Peugeot e-3008 is a new 100% electric model for 2024. Peugeot describes it as being a fastback SUV because of its sloping rear window and hatchback, rather than the boxy style you might expect on an SUV.

It has a 73kWh engine with an official range of up to 326 miles. There is a petrol hybrid power option as well.

Peugeot 408

If you’d like something a bit sleeker than an SUV, but still offering a slightly raised view of the road, then take a look at the new Peugeot 408.

It’s a hatchback, so still very practical, and in its Carwow review, its interior received particular praise. Not so good was the amount of road noise and the chunk of boot space that’s sacrificed in the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions compared to the petrol ones.

There are three engine options all with an eight-speed automatic transmission. They include a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 130hp and two hybrids - a mild hybrid with 136hp and two plug-in hybrids with 180hp or 225hp, both with an electric range of up to 34 miles.

Peugeot 5008

The Peugeot 5008 is the biggest in the Peugeot SUV range and the only one to offer seven seats.

It is a comfortable car to drive and, of course, has Peugeot’s futuristic i-Cockpit dashboard design which makes it stand out from any rival. In its Carwow review it scored 8/10.

At the moment, there’s a choice of self-charging mild hybrid (136hp) or 1.5-litre diesel engines (130hp) available. There was a petrol engine available, but as there’s an all-new E-5008 on the way, the outgoing model’s range has been rationalised.

The new E-5008 will initially be offered with an all-electric version with a 347 mile official range, and also with hybrid and plug-in hybrid models - all still offering seven seats. These will be followed by an all-electric Dual Motor 4-wheel drive (up to 310 miles official range), plus an all-electric long range model with up to 410 miles of official range.

Peugeot SUVs FAQs

The best Peugeot SUV to buy will depend on the size of car you need and your budget. The most practical Peugeot SUV has to be the 5008 as it’s the biggest and offers seven seats; but if you don’t want something as big as that, then the mid-size 3008 would be a better Peugeot SUV to buy. Alternatively, if you’d like the added space and driving position of an SUV in something little bigger than a compact hatchback, then the Peugeot SUV for you is the 2008. Every Peugeot SUV offers a choice of engines, including hybrid and electric options.
