Citroen’s SUVs stand out from the crowd and have a reputation for being practical and comfortable. There’s two SUV models at the moment, with a third one coming soon. Some also consider the Citroen C4 hatchback as an SUV. Currently, there is a choice of the compact C3 Aircross or the larger C5 Aircross. Citroen has released initial details of an all-new Citroen C3 Aircross with seven seats and a choice of powertrains, including 100% electric.

Citroen SUV models: current lineup

The current Citroen SUV range includes the C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross. Both offer space for five people, while the C5 is also available as a hybrid.

Citroen C4

The Citroen C4 is a family hatchback with a choice of BlueHDi diesel, hybrid, PureTech petrol or 100% electric power. In reviews, the C4 is always praised for its Advanced Comfort seats.

The all-electric e-C4 has a choice of two battery sizes: 54 kWh (156 hp) and 50 kWh (136 hp) with ranges of 260 and 222 miles (WLTP), respectively.  They have three driving modes: eco, Normal and Sport.

A new C4 hybrid model was introduced this year. It has a 136 hp PureTech petrol engine combined with a 21 kW electric motor to reduce CO2 emissions by around 20% and also improves fuel economy as the battery provides extra power to reduce the load on the petrol engine.

The petrol options are a PureTech 100 manual (six-speed) or PureTech 130 with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.

The C4 used to be available with a 1.5-litre, 110 hp diesel engine with manual or automatic transmission as well.

Citroen C3 Aircross

Citroen’s C3 Aircross may be a Citroen’s compact SUV, but it still has plenty of style and comfort thanks to a range of exterior customisation combinations and its Advanced Comfort Seats.

The SUV design creates more shoulder room for rear passengers and luggage, while a panoramic sunroof helps it feel bright. The rear seat slides forwards or backwards to create more boot space or legroom, as required; and the rear seats fold forwards, split one/two thirds.

A choice of three trim levels include: You!, Plus and Max. The three-cylinder, 1.2-litre PureTech 110 petrol engine has a six-speed manual and the PureTech 130 has automatic transmission. There’s also a 1.5-litre BlueDHI 110 diesel (manual).

Citroen C5 Aircross

Citroen’s C5 Aircross is a full-size family SUV. In fact, it received the Family Values Award in the Carwow Car of the Year Awards 2024.

It’s another Citroen with a focus on comfort thanks to the Advanced Comfort Suspension system.

There are hybrid, plug-in hybrid and petrol or diesel engines to choose from, and Plus, Max or ë-series trim levels.

Citroen e-C4 X

The Citroen e-C4 X is a saloon version of the e-C4. That means it has extra luggage capacity with 510 litres instead of 380 litres. The rear seats still fold forward if you need to carry longer items in the boot.

In all other respects, the e-C4 X is the same as the e-C4. That means comfortable seats, good levels of specification and competitive prices - with four trim levels: You!, Plus, Max and e-series.

The e-C4 X offers a range of up to 260 miles (WLTP) with a 54 kWh battery or 222 miles (WLTP) with a 50 kWh battery. Petrol and hybrid models are also available.

Citroen SUVs FAQs

Citroen currently offers the C5 Aircross with the choice of hybrid or plug-in hybrid. Pre-launch details of the forthcoming all-new C3 Aircross say it will have multiple powertrains, one of which is all-electric, so it’s reasonable to expect hybrid versions as well.
The Citroen SUV range starts with the C3 Aircross, currently available from £17,830, and goes up to the C5 Aircross, available from £24,280.
